Taking the plunge back to coumadin this weekend. My concern is whether to remain at the same dose or lower the dose. Guess I should test again in couple weeks. Has anyone tried the new home test for PT/INR? I looked into it briefly but it seemed that the suppliers of the kit all wanted me to send them the results so they could, with my doctor, monitor my results. Sounds like the kit providers want a piece of the insurance. I can still monitor my own dosage. I just want a kit to use so I can check weekly and then reduce my phlebotomist visits to every three months.

My coumadin cost has gone from $45. to $90 since I last filled it for a 90 day supply. Warfarin would cost $5 with my insurance. Why such a disparity? I am reluctant to change because it seems to be an inferior product. Are the insurance companies playing games? ; is this truly an alternative to Coumadin? Why can't the "binders" be changed to be more patient friendly?

I am currently taking Warfarin for a DVT. I feel slightly dizzy and have had multiple episodes of very low body temp. Last night it dropped to 95F. I just feel off all the time and to paranoid to get a good night's sleep. Any advice would be great.

I have been on Warfarin for about 9 months. Dr. put me on it when I had some afib. Since being on it...I take about 27 mg per week...INR has been between 2.0 and 3.0 which my cardiologist wanted to maintain.
I have had considerable discomfort from abdominal gas in the middle of the night, but I was having some of that before I went on Warfarin. The most alarming thing I have experienced is a significant weight gain. I now weigh nearly 20 lbs. more and my waist line is nearly 4 inches more. I also feel like my stomach is bloated. I also require a nap nearly every day.

Had a mild stroke 3mths ago. Dizziness started 4days after being on warfarin. INR finally regulated after 3 mths, but have been dizzy for 3mths. Have been to ent, decreased BP medicine to 1/3 of original dose prior to stroke.. Wondering if dizziness due to lower BP or should try Coumadin and not generic warfarin.

mary columbus ohio wrote: my goodness I am takeing warafin because I thought generic did not matter. I feel awful. Lethargic etc. I take 10mg per day five days a week and 5mg 2. I am managed at a hospital anticoagulation clinic.I have a fib. Would switching to coumadin help me??? Yes, I believe so, generics wreck havic on me. I was treated for a year with afib, taking digoxin, carvedail and diltiazem was extremely fatigued, thought it was the meds, wanted off. Wore a halter, discovered I was still in 160 - 180 resting heart rate, got stronger doses, and feel much better, have more energy as my heart is not beating itself to death. Is a ecardio halter a possability for you to check?

I have been taking 5 - 7.5mg daily since '05 and have a 2-wire pacer (a-fib). 12/2011 diagnosed with Age-Related Macular Degeneration and began monthly intraocular injections of Avastin, dosage unknown. Recently noticed disappearance of body hair, increased appetite, drowsiness. Avastin was developed by Genentech, Inc. as chemo for lung and colorectal cancer and is used off-label for AMD. I am very concerned with using an anticoagulant on one hand, and a substance to fight tumors on the other. Genentech developed Lucentis to get around the off-label problem, at 20 times the cost. Study released 5/1/2012 shows them to be indistinguishable. New package, new label, new product, mew priceing. Anyone knowledgeable?? 73yo

I have been on Coumadin since 1986 and I was recently thinking about switching to Warfarin. Although my insurance gets me a slight discount on Coumadin it is still very expensive. I go to a Coumadin Clinic at my cardiologist and they say my number is very steady.
Should I take the risk of switching to a generic? And if so, which generic manufacturer is the most reliable?
