Hi
Has anyone experienced anemia while on Warfarin? I was just told I was anemic and they are going to run some more tests to see if I have a GI bleed.

My father became anemic after warfarin thanks to two GI bleeds. They never found the source of the bleeding and hasn't bled out since stopping the warfarin, but is still anemic. He was taking procrit shots to raise his blood count and he takes iron supplements which are upsetting his stomach. Just another thing to add to the damage that warfarin has done to him. He was a relatively healthy man before taking this rat poison.

Coumadin is a medication the requires very specific and personalized dosage. It can be very harmful if it is given in excess, which is why your INR should be monitored very often until it is stable and within a target range (usually between 2-3). While coumadin can be very dangerous, it is also a life-saving medication. For some people, not taking coumadin can result in a life-threatening clot. Please consult your doctor if you are having side effects. Medication, ESPECIALLY coumadin should not be discontinued without a doctors approval.

Yeah, I've been on warfarin since September, 2008, and just yesterday (Jan 30, 2009) I was told I was anemic enough to require iron tablet treatment.
I can't other than see a link...

I just started Warfarin. I have deep vein thrombosis and multiple, bi-lateral, pulmonary emboli. I was having extreme dizziness, to the point I felt like I was going to pass out. They found I was anemic and my blood sugar was too low. What can I do to help with the anemia?

I have been on warfarin since Sept. Today I went into the ER for heavy menstruation. They found out I was anemic. My DR decided it was time to take me off warfarin (yay). Now for the next two months I will take iron pills. Which is more then fine with me.

I've been on coumadin for 2 months and about once or twice a week I feel awful. I had a blood clot in my left lung from taking birth control pills..I'm 23 and don't smoke, so thats been awesome. I also cant take birth control pills ever again. Today I got a bunch of blood work done to see if I'm anemic. My doctor is kind of confused because I come in once a week telling her I feel really lightheaded and out of it, but it's not a normal sign of taking coumadin so she thinks I might be anemic. I don't care what it is, I just want to stop taking this medicine :(

I have been taking warfarin since 12th May 2011. I have just been told that I am anemic. I have never been anemic in my life. I have not been well on this medication with different side affects, feeling tired, dizzy, and interferring with medication that I was already taking. I am waiting to have Ablation sometime in August which I hope works, then maybe I can stop taking this awful medication.

Am scheduled for colonoscopy and not taking coumadin and I feel so much better most symptoms have gone away I'm seriously thinking about taking the risk and stopping my coumadin with coumadin I am slowly dying.

I am already anemic and they want to use coumadin due to a stroke 2 years ago and a TIA 8/1/11. I know it is a life saving drug but I am currently anemic. How can it be used under these conditions? That sounds to me like a very bad idea. Input from a medical person would be appreciated or someone who has had this sinario.

I have only been on Coumadin a few weeks now thanks to DVT (from ankle to groin on the left leg) that formed after a tummy tuck last month. I am also on Lovenox shots twice a day until my INR is high enough. I was already SEVERELY anemic before being put on Coumadin, to the point where a few times a year I have to get 1,000-cc's of IV iron infused, thanks to a gastric bypass in 2000 I don't absorb iron from food. ALSO I had a bleeding stomach ulcer just last year, so taking a blood thinner freaks me out. i mentioned the anemia and ulcer to my hematologist, but really what are the choices when you have DVT and have to keep that clot stable??!! the benefit outweighs the risk, i don't want to die from a blood clot either. Side effects I had are a headache the past few days, and facial numbness (mainly on the left cheek). Fatigue hasn't been too bad, but I'm also healing from plastic surgery. I know this is scary for all of us..... I have two children and I worry every day about leaving them from the clot, the meds, something related to this, what a poor choice I made have that surgery.

So far the Drs. have not shown me any sign of clotting past or present. I am anemic though. I have a protein S deficiency and a PFO( a naturally occuring hole in the heart with no symptoms) I had a stroke 2 years ago , very mild and I have recently had a TIA ( stroke symptoms with no actual stroke that go away imediately)They are preaching coumadin to me as it is text book protacol. There is nothing text book about me!
I also live with severe IBS that requires many meds to survive and keeps me from eating anything of value for the past 16 years. Hence no iron and enemia.I am on iron but they want to increase it - the IBS is having problems with that! They also want me to take 4x more aspirin - also a no go due to IBS.
If they saw a clot it might make sense to prescribe coumadin. I beleive they are preaching it because they have no idea why I stroked and feel they should 'do something'.
I am scared of another stroke but am equally scared of this drug! They just do not have sufficient reason to give such a risky drug to me so far, so for now I have refused it until we know more. Suggestions form a medical would be helpful.

Ask your Dr to advise you on an iron suppliment. It really works.

Hi. Just reading these posts. I had 2 dvt and 3 pe in August. On Coumadin now. Heavier menstral periods. Just found out shouldn't drink cranberry juice too much. Find out something new every day . But wanted to share something. Doctors wouldn't have a clue what I have if I hadn't told them what to test for and if my uncle wouldn't have had to go to mayo and cleveland clinics for years to figure out his clots. There is a genetic clotting disorder that is fairly new...1996 discovered. So if you have been negative for other causes of your clots...get tested for heterozygous prothrombin factor 2 gene mutation g2010a.

I have been on warfarin 24 years and now my doctor tells me to start taking iron pills because i am a anemic, but i understand iron thickens the blood, so that puts my right in the middle. I also am looking for some professional help,

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
