I have been on Coumadin on and off since 1983. However, in May 2002 after my 4th hospitalized clot the doctor basically told me I can either stay on Coumadin the rest of my life or risk losing the lower part of my left leg. I guess that means I am not getting off the Coumadin.

I have been on Coumadin since Sept of 05.(due to a DVT in left leg). It was then determined that I have the Factor V gene so I was told that I would have to take this drug from now on. I've been able to keep my INR in the range of 2-3 without too much problem. I also FREEZE unless its 80-90 degrees outside, I also feel tired. I have gained 18 pounds since I started this treatment. Anyone else having this problem?

Amy

I have had up/down appetite issues. I have had various generic forms of coumadin but levels were bouncing. Now I take only the brand name Coumadin.

I have a hard time when it gets hot & humid. My heart has a hard time keeping up. I go thru periods of being cold which makes you want to eat even more. I've found that cutting out sweets helps me maintain better. I don't have as many cravings.

Following a consistent diet also helps. No binging on those greens. Do eat them but maintain your quantity week to week. I have had multiple valve replacements which are mechanical ones. So I can never stop taking the coumadin.

I was sick last winter and on antibiotics. I did not exercise like I should have. I gained 18 pounds. It has taken me 4.5 months to get it off. I still want to lose more but am having a hard time now. I know stress can really mess things up, too.

The higher your INR the greater degree of unwanted symptoms there are. I think it is because your body is trying to get back to its normal level.

Have your doctors told you what level they want you to be at? Protime levels can run from 1 to 10. 1 is what is normal for people not on blood thinners. 10 is the top end and people will bleed out when it gets on the higher end. I need to keep mine between 2.5 and 3.5 so my artificial valves do not clog up. Ask your health care people what levels you need to maintain and why.

Your levels sound good for the most part however staying on them forever is a bit scarry to me occording to my research You must take control of this your self The freezing is a big part of this rat poision that is what this drug is.... The weight gain is different than my husbands he has lost 30 lb. since his surgery on the 31st of august.. Total knee replacement with many unexcusable mistakes. God bless QUOTE I have been on Coumadin since Sept of 05.(due to a DVT in left leg). My dad was on coumadin for quite a while and then he went into hospital and they could not get his levels under control for 10 days. Sent him home on Sunday, saw the doctor on Weds, said his coumadin levels were too high on Friday and Died Sunday morning from "a big bleed in the brain" is what the nurse in the ER said to me. So from my experience I would say that the numbers bouncing around is not good. If the blood gets to thin you can bleed to death from a paper cut.

My dad also has an artificial valve and is taking coumadin. His bone marrow was found healthy. He is also taking medication to "boost" the production of his red blood cells. Inspite of all these, we noticed that his blood count drops and has to have transfusion every two months. Our doctors said that dad has internal bleeding but our doctors cannot pinpoint where he is bleeding. Is it possible to have a bleeding without knowing where ?

By the way, i am from the Philippines. Hoping i could learn from people outside my country who are in the same situation. God bless us all.

My partner's PT reading, when admitted to the hospital, was 12.0!!!!!!!!!!
I almost fainted, and I'm still unable to stop crying from the fear of it. Can anyone tell me if my partner could possibly suffer any organ damage (or any other internal damage) from this, or any place where I can research this information, etc? Please HELP. I am terrified, and I can't think straight enough to get any results on the search engines. Any REAL help would be greatly appreciated. Thanx

Daily Horoscope for January 3

Gemini

You are in a dissatisfied mood, and are just spoiling for a fight today. However, be warned that this could backfire on you unpleasantly, especially if you take on superiors at work. At home, everyone is used to your behaviour and they generally make allowances for you, as they will today.
