I have Leiden V factor. Have had DVT's for years and been on coumadin for 12-14 years. Now I am getting PE's and I am scared. I wish I could see another Dr. for second opinion. My inr can be 1.3-7.1. I am in my late 60's They only test INR once a month. Is this okay.

i have been on warfarin for about a year due due blood clot in juglar vein. i am a lung cancer patient as well(over 9 years). i finish the chemo treatments aug 2010. my symtpoms in recent 2 months have included extreme fatique shortness of breath rapid heart beat and swelling of my face(eyes get squinty)and neck is very puffy the swelling is short lived and goes away. breathing is not effected(as yet) i went to oncology docs first they have eliminated cancer spread as culprit going to pc tomorrow with info i gleaned from this chat...i am encouraged somewhat to hear the fatique side effect i more common that the med info would have me believe. the point about exercise is a good one as well----unless it feels like you might fall on your hear smile

I am gaining weight and feel so blodded all of the time. Since July they put me on warfarin and I have pack on about 20 pounds and still gaining. I do not know what to do...I am at my wits end. My count has gotten to 5.7 and as of Monday I am at 2.2. I had to go out to purchase larger clothes to go to work. HELP!!! HELP!!! I mentioned this to the nurse to no avail. One side effect was gain weight or loose weight. You'd guess it I am gaining like a pig. I travel and on Thursday went to the hotel after work on yesterday..slept about two hours went back to sleep and woke at 4:30 a.m. Would someone please tell me what to do about this weight thing. I did mention it to the nurse and since I will be relocating in a few weeks will join the gym to swim, use the sauna and wall too. God help us all with the drug...I am no a pill popper do not believe in taking meds...

Hi there. I know there is some debate about whether warfarin causes weight gain, and because I seem to be gaining weight since my OHS replacing two valves back in April 2011, I've gained almost 60 pounds. Here is it, January 2012. I can't get my INR checked as often as the office would like, but I went two months without getting it checked. I didn't lose, but gained slowly. I went up in dosage, and guess what, within a week I've gained probably 4 pounds. Seems overnight. I took a water pill when I noticed I was bloated, and it changed nothing. I feel horrible all the time. They told me I would feel like a new woman after my heart surgery. This was my second one. I even lost weight to prepare for this surgery, a good 20 pounds. I left the hospital at 233...this morning I'm at 289.8. I don't know what to do, I feel like I'm ballooning up. My mid section has never extended out like this. Just a little scared.

I started Warfarin in June of 2011 due to 2 blood clots in my lungs. The hospital said that I would be taking it until the end of October, but my Doctor is the type that plays things "better safe than sorry", so I'm afraid that I'll be on this drug for life. I go in for Lab INR checks about every 2 weeks. I'm currently taking 16MG of the drug every day and my INR is sitting at 3.1 last time we checked. Lately though, I have had soreness in both arms. I mentioned that to my Doctor, but he said he doubts it is because of the drug (even though I told him that WEBMD says that is a severe side effect of the drug). He has me going to a "specialist" but unfortunately I think this Doctor is a carpal tunnel specialist. I am supposed to see him again in the next couple of weeks. In the meantime, both of my arms hurt and it's tough to sleep at night. Any suggestions? Has anyone else had arm problems? Thanks everyone.

Hi I collapsed at work back in September due to multiple Pulmonary Embolus in my lungs, it was a close call but made it through and started back at work last week. My theraputic range should be between 2 and 3 but I have been struggling with a drop every month to around 1.7. When I checked, the drops coincided with my period and the nurse seems to think that the drops could be hormone related. The trouble is apart from the fear of further clotting I can tell when I drop out of range as I feel much more tired (I am shattered most of the time anyway) and have overwhelming nausea. Does anyone else have this problem or reaction? Also since I left hospital I have gained nearly two stone. With the nurse saying that I should not worry about my weight and that dieting while on Warfarin is not advisable I feel like I am turning into a whale!! I have also had to buy larger clothes for my return to work and am starting to feel really down about it. I am currently on 6mg of warfarin a day and am still on a weekly INR check as the longest period I have had between checks is two weeks and every time my INR seems to drop. I understand everyones frustrations but I am really glad to have found this forum and read that other people are having similar issues to me!

Hi....I was on coumadin for 18 months and stopped 7 months ago and I STILL have the side effects like upset stomach, back pain, cold then warm, headache, legs ache, foggy mind the whole bit. I have been to 3 doctors and ALL tell me my side effects are due to getting old. I am only 56. It is all rubbish and the doctors know it. Thsi drug has the same effects as Chemo. My question to anyone is does your body ever return to what was normal? Thanks

Active people on various blood thinning medications should be aware of an excellent product to help prevent bruising or protecting very thin skin. The product is called Arm Chaps and they have so many useful benefits due to their protectin of forearms, wrists, and hands. They're well worth learning about. Plus they are easily returnable if you dont like them. Background::: I was so fed up with products that dont work, I was determined to create something super durable and yet comfortable to wear in any situation. Best of luck to all of you!!

I started Coumadin a few months ago for a DVT and PE and have been on an INR rollercoaster ride. I have also developed a pretty severe Neuropathy which all the doctors say is not related but I can tell you that when I am on higher doses of Coumadin the neuropathy is worse. Tingling, burning, shocks through my body. I am seeing a neurologist but I think I want to stop the Coumadin for a week or two and see if I feel better.
I definitely feel more tired. Any time you put poison in your body there are bound to be side effects. But it may be a necessary evil to avoid the clots.

I've been on coumadin for 2 years now Had Bilateral DVT's and PE. They tellme I have a rare blood clotting dis order. So rare they can't even give it a name. My oldest sister passed away with a PE 2 years ago. My other sister has it also. My question is can coumadin effect your kidney's? I'm hurting so bad. I hurt before I have to go pee in my lower back

People please put you faith in God for your health, not doctors and pills....Life’s NATURAL dangers are worth talking....NOT THESE KOWN DANGERIOUS DRUGS!!!!! Yes - you can put your TRUST in a doctor, but NEVER your FAITH! Not to say we don't need doctors, they have a purpose. But that purpose has been subverted mostly in their own financial interest not you well being...Doctors will ALWAYS tell you if you ask...."how long will I live if I do this or that treatment"...IT'S UP TO GOD!!!!!God bless....
