My local pharmacist is telling me that she can no longer get the generic clonidine patches because the manufacturer has stopped making them. Does anyone know if this is true?

I just got my first boxs of the generic clonidine TTS3 patches last week, 11-7-09. They were terrible. The patch was huge. I put it on in the am on Sunday, and by that afternoon it was not sticking to my skin. I took them back on Monday, and got the name brand Catapress. They always stick, rarely needing to use the overlay.

I'm having an awful time keeping these generics on. SO big, and even with the "cover" on they peel off no matter where I try on my arm or torso.

I have the same issue. The patch barely stays on for 1 hour. Also I have to be very careful while taking a bath. The cover helps sometime. I wonder if the patch will work well if it keeps coming off.

I'm getting a reaction to the glue evidently. I have red blotches over the entire coverage area (not just the periphery where the cover is) where the patch was. I place it on the opposite shoulder each week and even oldest one, two weeks old, still shows.

My 10 year old grandson just started on the patch. Imagine keeping them on an active child. My daughter is at her wits end. Any suggestions are welcome. An ace bandage or LARGE bandages to cover the patch are the next things we may try.

I tried the generic patch and was thrilled at the savings--until I showered and it would not stayon. It was so huge and the glue did not stay stuck. I used all the cocers in 4 days. Bought exlarhe bandaids and the patch itseld did not stay. I went back to the name brand. Now CatapresTTS3 patches are 90.00 plus a month. Is there another patch available at the small size that is generic???

I had the same problems as above. The genetic patch would not stay on, even with the overlay. Until my insurance company switched me to generic, I had enjoyed water aerobics, which my insurance company provides. The insurance company won't cover the Catapress patch, even though I complained to my pharmacy. I have been paying very high prices to keep the Catapres patches because I have not had a problem for the 10 years I have been wearing them.

Same problem as all of you. I couldn't believe how large the patch was compaired to Catapress. Those always stuck, I'd never have to use the overlays and I'd go swimming with it on. The new generic patches are terrible, they come off just with the motion of your shirt.

I tried the generic a year ago and experienced the same thing... not sticking. If it stuck, I wouldn't mind the size, but am back to spending $125/month for the Catapres. Does anyone know if any improvements have been made to the generic's ability to stick to the skin?

I asked the pharmacy last time I refilled my Catapress. There are a couple of new companies making the generic clonidine. Hopefully they will be better.

I can recommend a reputable pharmacy (Clonidine) medshop-365.com/item.php... I received the order and it was on time and the pills work great.

Hi sarah,
We have been discussing the clonidine generic transdermal patch, and it inability to stay stuck to the skin, not the pill form

I recently tried the generic clonidine patch, 0.1 mg. strength, made by AVEVA Pharmaceuticals. It measures 1-1/2"x1-1/4". It is HUGE and awful. I did some research, then called my pharmacist.
She told me that MYLAN Pharmaceuticals also makes a generic clonidine patch. It measures about 1/4"x1/4". What a difference! It is about the same size as the brand-name patch!
I will pick up the MYLAN generic patch tomorrow. Hope that all of you out there read this and request the MYLAN generic patch from your pharmacy.

Oops! I sent my latest comment twice!!

Anyway, I apply my patch after showering. I clean the area with an alcohol swab and let it dry for a minute - to make sure that the area is clean. After the area is dry, I put on the patch, then press it several times, to make sure it is really stuck on.

Will update the MYLAN patch, if/when I get it from my pharmacy!

I picked up the MYLAN generic patches yesterday. The pharmacy had NO problem in getting them - they just had to CALL their warehouse, to get the MYLAN brand.
Anyway, my old patch (generic, made by AVEVA for PAR), started to come off this morning. So, it was the perfect time to try the MYLAN patch! After showering and wiping the new area with alcohol and letting it dry, I opened up the MYLAN patch. It really IS smaller! I measured it and it is 3/4"x1/2", rectangular-shaped. It is quite a bit thinner than the brand name patch. I had a bit of trouble applying it, as it is quite thin. Once it was on, though, I was SO happy!!! Finally, a small patch that does not cost a fortune and is much, much smaller than the other two generic patches. I will wear it for one week, so we'll see if the adhesive sticks. So far, so good!!!

Thanks so much for being the guinea pig for us!

I'm so excited to hear this news as I have to wear TWO patches as the maximum one of .3 mg is not enough adrenaline blocking for me. So I need a price break!

Does it burn or cause allergies for you any differently than the brand patch? Was yours a .2 or .1 patch?

And also would you mind letting us know if it works?

Good luck and thanks,
Elegia More

Thanks Marla. Yes, can you please let us know after a week if it sticks or comes off? I'm not sure who the maker was of the generic I tried. I use the 0.3 mg, it was oval, and huge. I just checked, as I kept it. It says PAR on it. I always wipe the area with alcohol as you do, then let it dry before I apply the patch. The generic did not even stay on for one full day. It started coming off within hours. I'm hoping for a generic that sticks, so I can reduce cost.

Dianne

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
