i have been on 10mg celexa for about two or three weeks and about a week or so in to my course i smoked some marijuana and the next day at about 6:00 , i wouldnt go so far to call it dizziness, but my visual perception of things became quite abit off, and for about 4 or 5 days i would feel that. then i smoked again and the "dizziness" was there but only for about 2 or 3 days. i recently smoked and and once again the dizziness came about a day after i smoked (its been about 2 hours since i noticed the dizziness). what could be causing this. Will it be like this as long i am on celexa or and i just getting ajusted? PLEASE HELP!!!!

I believe as long as you're doing marijuana and Celexa at the same time, this might continue to happen, but your tolerance might increase over time. The problem is, marijuana, like alcohol, is a depressant which works against Celexa the anti-depressant.

I know what I'm talking about because I am drinking alcohol at the same time as I am taking 40 mg/day of Celexa and 300 mg/day of Wellbutrin (another anti-depressant). What has happened is that over the past 2 years of drinking while on anti-depressants is that my tolerance for alcohol has grown to the point where I can put away 20 ounces of rum 6-7 days per week and wake up the next morning like nothing happened. Sounds good doesn't it? But forking out $100+ per week for your booze just to get a slight buzz is NOT a good thing, because those 20 ounces a day only give me the same buzz that 3-4 ounces used to give me a couple of years ago.

Take it from me, doing marijuana or alcohol while on an anti-depressant will only dig you a deeper hole to crawl out of because while my mood and emotions are stable, I need a LOT of alcohol to keep me going.

but i still get REALLY high (i have a low tolerance to marijuana) i am just dizzy for awhile after, but the dizziness seems to be getting shorter and shorter so thats good. But your comment was very helpful because i too drink alcohol but have yet to get drunk while on celexa so i will keep that in mind. But i am still a bit curious about the marijuana. i do other drugs too such as cocaine exctasy (i do not do them frequently at all but i have used them on celexa) and have no problem doing them on celexa, it actually decreases the after effects.

Hi Stan,
Sounds to me like you are tickling yourself in the tummy and at the same time bopping yourself in the nogin with a ballpeen hammer.
That's about the extent of what you're doing when mixing citalopram with weed (or whatever other stuff you might use). In the (not even so very) long run this will catch up with you and you may find yourself worse off than when you started. Bangalee is right where it comes to the alcohol. I some ways Citalopram influences the way you perceive the effect of alcohol and prevents having consequences afterwards, but the toxic effect on liver and braincells remains, as does the depressive effect of alcohol. Even if your rec. drug of choice will not affect your liver etc. there's still the depressive effect afterwards. Since I suspect that you take citalopram to deal with some sort of depression to begin with, taking depressive drugs looks a tad counterproductive to me.
That's just my take on it though.

every other article and forum i have read on the internet said that long term marijuana use mixed with long term celexa use will do nothing execpt take the paranoia aspects out of the weed. where do you get your information from, because no disrespect but i think its incorrect.

Well, not to put too fine a point to it, last time I checked, paranoia aspects definitely indicated depressive disorder, but that's neither here nor there, Stan. I'm not here to be your counselor or your doc. and you're a big boy (I assume) who knows what and what not to do. It's just that I want to make clear that for all of those who may not be like you, they may be skating on thin ice when mixing regular meds with recreational drugs.
Also you mentioned Coke-xtc, which is in an entirely different class than Hasjish (Gesundheit) altogether and that definitely has immense impact on any form of drepressive disorder.
Just keep inh mind that DeNial is NOT a river in Africa that one can navigate for long without adverse consequences.
I, for me and without any dogmatic or judgmental connotation, will stick to clean living.
Cheers!

Hello, I am a healthy teenager and I started taking a low dose of celexa a few days ago. Not really for depression but more for slight anxiety. However, i noticed a decreased tolorence to alchohal. I do not drink regularly but I am curious about the effects. I've been smoking marijuana for the past 2 years, I havnt noticed any change in my smoking habits yet.

With Celexa you can only use downers. No uppers such as xtc or others, can stop your heart or give you a permanent mental damage.

It is amazing that someone would consider taking hard drugs while on antidepressants. It is bad enough to smoke pot on them. I am just starting on celexa for anger/depression (20mg /day - 1 1/2 weeks. Have been smoking pot 10 yrs, don't want to stop, not sure if it feels any different now that I am on celexa. Only now my mouth is always dry, so the cottonmouth is even worse.;) A couple times I have had one beer, made me really drunk. I feel like the celexa is starting to work, despite the pot smoking. not sure if it's really bad for me or not, hard ot find good reliable info on this

I'm not convinced that toking is a good thing to do while on anti-depressants. I don't take a "drug war" mentality here, I have used it most of my life, however clearly pot has an affect on brain chemistry and may hinder rather than help your treatment. I stopped while on Celexa.

For those who may take Celexa to counter depression caused by hepatitis interferon treatments, there is evidence that regular use speeds up liver fibrosis.(see hivandhepatitis.com ).

I smoke heaps of weed on 40mg no probs at all, except for classic migraine with aura for some reason but not all the time and it doesn't annoy me either because there is no pain involved.

Come on people, celexa and alcohol or pot don't mix. You are fooling yourself if you think so.

Steve you are right alot of people in early stages of taking citalopram. Dont worry, my boyfriend had an awful experience a few years ago where he was stressed out at work and had problems in his personal life. He would smoke a bit of dope to help him relax and is currently on 30mg /day after 3 years. This drug has really helped him sort out his life. He has returned to the person he was. The only thing is now he is wanting to come off and we are unsure on how to manage it. Especially when most docotrs are crap and keeping track on how you are doing it. Any suggestions?

Celexa has been a godsend for me, its changed my whole personality. I can only honestly describe it as a happy pill, I'm taking it at 60mg per day and it has helped my cognitive functioning two fold. People can't believe the change in me. There is a downside though, too much drinking messes up the whole regime for a few a days and quality time isn't as enjoyable lack of drive, and that awesome gushing rush.
