Citalopram--is this legal ecstacy?

I was on Lexapro & Wellbutrin a while back & it stopped working. I tried other things, but none of them worked. Doc said to go back to that combination, but we decided to opt for generic Celexa instead of Lexapro since it's cheaper.

I took 20mg of Citalopram & within 2 hrs I felt like I was on ecstacy. Enhanced sense of smell, elevated pulse, extremely happy, shaky, dilated pupils, bowel movements, insomnia. It hasn't been scary like serotonin syndrome, just feels like I've taken some ecstacy. 14 hours later & the effects are still with me, just not as bad.

Anyone else experienced this?
Should I switch to 10mg of Citalopram or go back to Lexapro?

Wow really? When i first started i was a bit of a zombie to be truthful

ive been on it for two weeks i feel as if its calmed me down.im also taking zopiclone so im always sleepy nowdays

I'm on it myself and I have experienced absolutely no effect whatsoever.

Yeah I get the same feeling crazybeautiful. I feel too happy, like kinda manic i guess. I I don't have bipolar though. When I feel most euphoric is when I re-start the medication, havelots of energy, and my pupils are dilated. Feels like an addiction almost.

I've been taking it for almost 2 weeks now.. I felt pretty zombified, still do a little bit, pretty tired... um.. I get headaches.. I don't feel like I'm on x or anything crazy like that.. I do feel kinda high tho... makes me have a weird feeling in my brain.. lol

Yup I felt the same thing when I started taking it. I was all hyped up and couldnt start talking. Clenching my jaw and fidgiting. I wasnt able to sleep. At first I thought wow this is really cool. But after a while it got really annoying and I nearly stopped taking it. After a week these side effects went away though and I started feeling normal again for the first time in months.

iv only just taken my first dose of 10mg cit and im having the ecstacy feelings your talking about but mines more of a realy bad come down!my jaws been nattering away all day and iv been grinding my sleep.havnt eaten.feel extremely tired but also quite buzzing (but not in a euphoric way) andmy pupils are very dilated.had sickness in the morning too!and i only took my tablet 15 hours ago and still feeling the effects.imhoping the side effects go away soon and im hoping i get a good nights sleep.does anyone take there dose at nightime?i was thinking if i took it right before bed i might hopefully be able to sleep through the side effects? wishfull thinkinglol

I've never done Ex, but from what I've heard about it I wouldn't so much compare it to that. I am feeling very wired though, very ADHD if you may. I took it this morning at noon and almost 12 hours later Im still buzzin like crazy. Dont think I could get sleep if I tried and thats an issue seeing as how I have to be up at 6am for school.

Hopefully I wont get sick in the morning although Im beginning to feel kind of naseous. Wonderful.

If this doesnt go away soon I'm stopping.

exactly what happened to me. i liked it a lot, but my husband hated it. :( now cut down to 10 mgs. too soon to tell.

I've calmed down and now I believe it's working pretty well for me. Might want to up the dose though because it's not having the same effect as much anymore. Who knows

I take mine before bed and it causes me to have a hard time getting up. I took mine last night after not having it for like 2 days and i slept straight to 1 in the afternoon

at first you will feel energetic...but long term use, you feel very tired and lethargic and kinda "numb" w/ your emotions. Hated it, decided to wean myself off after 4 years.

i took my first 20mg last night, was prescribed them because i get really depressed and down in the dumps as i suffer with interstitial cystitis and the pain really takes it out of me. last night i couldn't sleep, felt like i could run a marathon as i had so much energy! was fidgeting and felt restless and was really flustered and warm despite it being a freezing cold night. i got up and looked in the mirror and my eyes were massive and pupils dilated. was in pain this morning but i couldn't cry, even though i was in pain!

I started taking it and am on my first dose of 10 mg.
I used to take Lexapro and Wellbutrine and had some bothersome side affects. Restlessness, muscle spasms and sexual. I hated it but made me feel better. I stopped the 2 years ago and just got Celexa.
The side affects so far are minimal. I feel good, a little bit of anxiety but I had simular affects when I started Lexapro. The best thing is that the sexual side affects are minimal. I know thet are there but not as bad as with the Lex. I do have a bit of a haze and sleepiness but not the same as Extacy. Not even close

I have Recently been put on 10mg citalopram and i have had these effects comparable to a low dose of E.
I have had Dilated pupils, Increased socialbility and mood, Felt weird in my head, felt spaced. Keep getting sudden bursts of energy and sudden bursts of fatiqque.
This could have been to do with the sudden umpf of seretonin ect. and this being my first antidepressant ever.
Must say that these are the nicest adverse effects ive ever had off meds ;)

i been taking 20mg citalopram for a couple months now. i have felt those ecstacy like sensations from time to time. when i first started it definitely felt like i was taking a low does ecstacy pill on a daily basis. I feel great tho, i feel how i used to feel before i had anxiety. with no zombie like side effects.

Me too! Ive been taking it for 3 weeks now. When I first took it I felt exactly like i was on an E, couldnt believe it had affected me so quickly. Now it has settled down but I still feel so much happier and calmer too, which is the exact effect I needed from these. It is my first time taking anti-depressants; i always felt I should be able to cope before. Anyway, they have definitely worked for me. My only worry is that i will get addicted to them!

I just took my first dose this morning, and I feel AWEFUL. Shaky, nauseous, a bit fuzzy in the brain...I do feel stoned, but definitely not an e high... I'm on Lorazepam to help me sleep and there was no waking me up this morning, so on top of that grogginess, is this. Ugh... I hope this goes away. I'm just concerned about weight gain associated with citalopram. Any body have an experience with that?

I was taking 40mg of this ssri and had very similar effects. Very big pupils couldn't stop talking, very hyper, euphoria. As you describe a bit like 'E'. I could not sleep though which did my head in but was never tired in work or the next day. It did make me sweat a bit in the morning especially after a coffee for some reason. Stopped it now but still have a full packet which i will probably throw!!
