I have been on Celexa for 5 years now and the only problem i had was being tired. My dr wants me to on zoloft now and i am scared and dont want to , but he figures it will help me with my anxiety alot better. I dont know. I dont want to lose the bit of sex drive i have left.

Mandi: For me there wasn't a lot of difference between the two in side effects. Citalopram (Celexa) seems to help my type of anxiety (generalized with panic attacks) better than the Zoloft did. Also, you can go back to citalopram if the Zoloft doesn't work and be right back where you are, so don't worry about not being back to where you are now if Zoloft doesn't help.

While on Zoloft I wasn't drowsy, but on Serlife (also Sertraline HCL) I was drowsy.
So it seems that side effects can differ between manufacturers even if active pharm. ingredient and therapeutic effect is the same.
Sertraline IS zoloft..

Colin: It is an unfortunate side effect of the medication. There aren't really any solutions. You can try Celexa (citalopram) to see if it's better.

Has anybody been on Zoloft? Did it help? My doctor wants to switch me from Celexa to Zoloft...celexa has helped, but I cannot kick the tired feeling.
Zoloft has worked for me for years, though, I went from 50 mg to 125 mg over the years. I was not tired, though, I like to exercise and that may have helped me not be tired.
After 20 years of using Zoloft, I seem to need something else. Zoloft now takes away severe depression, not all of it.
Someone told me that when Zoloft didn't work for her, she then used Celexa. Has everyone had success with Celexa after using Zoloft for years.
Thank you for your reply.

So sorry about how you feel. I understand; I am so tired of having to go through depression again, and again. Sometimes I think depression has ruined my life. I never knew I had depression in my 20's and 30's (I just thought the sadness inside me was just part of me), but after my divorce severe depression hit me badly. After all these years of having depression, I just finished a 12 week depression class, 1 1/2 hours per week, where we shared our depression and this was the first time in my life that I had ever met someone where such feelings were shared.
If you think I could understand your feelings, please let me know.

Zoloft users have also reported feeling tired when they are using the drug. Your can read about the effects of antidepressants at this site http://www.zoloftsertralinebirthdefects.com/s... . The side effects of zoloft and and other antidepressants are usually the same. Although a person's reaction to the drug varies.

Linda: Great to hear! Very glad that you've found a natural alternative. No doubt that diet and exercise help pretty much EVERY ailment! Best of luck to you in staying off the medication. That a wonderful story of hope for everyone taking it!

Bill: Good luck to you as well. I am sorry to hear about the anxiety issue. I can't imagine being off of Celexa for several months! That must have been tough. But it sounds as though you are "back on the mend." I have not suffered with anxiety but with depression. However, I understand the Celexa helps both of them. For me, the side effects are easy to live with compared to the other alternative. I wish you the best of luck in feeling better! People who have not experienced what we all have discussed in this forum have no idea how difficult and unhappy life can be without these "crutches." Thank you for listening to my story and sharing yours :)
For Erica: What you stated to Bill was very well spoken. No one can understand the pain unless he/she has been there.

Hi all,
My friend is using citalec (citalopram as active ingredient) and after my brakdown at work I was subscribed Zoloft. Now there is almost no difference. Someone here had said that the sexual apetite wend down after celexa I can tell you that Zoloft is the same. Though I am horny I just cannt finish the game.
I'm on Celexa and I actually feel more energy and happy. As for sexual issues I just make sure I get mine before we start so that when we actually get to the sex I'm cool without getting off...lol. I was prescribed Zoloft at first, buy i never filled it because my fiance just doubled his Celexa and now gives me one of his everyday...we dont have a lit of $. Im using it for anxiety not really depression because I refused benzos. I don't need a habit in top of my anxiety. I may not get tired because I am also on 60 mg of Adderall. Is Zoloft better for anxiety or Celexa? I would switch over if it was.

Ive been on Celexa/Lexapro for 5 yrs. I just weened off bc Im now 3 mos pregnant. Doing good so far but Im concerned about postpartum depression, since thats how I got in this boat in the first place. I plan on breastfeeding and have read reviews that there is a lower transfer rate into breastmilk from Zoloft than Celexa. Has anyone else been in this situation?

Prego: I don't know about class C anti-anxiety medicines or their effect on breast-feeding myself, but here are a few comments from other people:

"I had to go do my own research and bring it back to her. I was able to find Dr Hale's book "Medications and Mother's Milk" at the library, and some articles & studies online, some linked via Kellymom.com . The problem is that there has been so few official studies on various medications and breastfeeding (particularly because bf'ing is not much of a moneymaker for any company to help fund studies), so there's not a whole lot of concrete information. However, all of the anecdotal evidence points towards Celexa being pretty safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Dr Hale put it third on his list of preferred SSRIs, behind Zoloft and Paxil (though this was back in 2002). However, Paxil has been more recently discouraged in pregnant mothers (and I personally didn't have the greatest experience with it). Zoloft seems especially hit-or-miss with people, and I personally was scared to try and switch to it.

The bottom line was...
My midwives AND the nervous dr I saw did all agree that it's better to be on something if you need it, rather than subject your baby and yourself to a flailing anxious or depressed mother. And that's really what it comes down to. Nothing that I read made me think that taking the chance to go off of it or even switch was the best thing for me and my baby. That's not to say that they won't have any of the drug in their system, but it's such a negligible amount that it doesn't really seem to concern any professional that actually knows anything on the subject. Lower doses are of course best, so I would definitely recommend to try a low dose for at least a month to see if that does it for you. I'm on 20mg of Celexa, which is the starter dose, and has been the difference between functioning and not functioning for me."

Here is a really good link if you haven't already seen it:

I am taking 30mg od Celexa right now and have been on the drug for about a month and a half. I still don't feel as if I am getting much effect from it. How long did it take for any of you to notice a signifigant change? I am a believer in these medicines and in therapy, but I really want to feel better soon. I was thinking about changing to Zoloft if after two full months of the Celexa, i don't see any improvement. I read what you guys have said about sexual issues with Zoloft and that makes me concerned because my husband and I are trying to get pregnant. I'll take any advice comments...
UMMM YOU SHOULDN'T BE TAKING ANY OF THESE DRUGS IF YOU'RE PREGNANT OR TRYING TO BECOME PREGNANT! THESE DRUGS CAUSE MAJOR BIRTH DEFECTS IN BABIES!!!!

I have been on citalopram (Celexa) for over 10 years and never experienced headaches from it. But my physiology may be different from yours. I would certainly try it. Make sure to give it a full month to see if it's making a difference.

can let you all know about both, I have been on Paxil, Lexapro, Celexa and Zoloft and out of them all the ones that worked best was Celexa and Zoloft.... I feel Zoloft has a lot more uses then the others, like Zoloft helps me panic disorder along with Social Anxiety and OCD... where Celexa only really helped with Depression. so if you have more then depression I would recommend taking Zoloft. the tired feeling only lasts 2 weeks max and everyday should get more and more less noticeable. But, When I was 20 (im 26 now) i totally cold turkey stopped taking Zoloft and I had tremors and rebound anxiety/depression for about a month. feel free to ask me any question, ive been a test dummy 4 too long to not know about this stuff :D cheers hope i helped out

hi im currently on 10mg citalopram this is my 5th wk n i seem to b very up and down on tjem.wid my anxiety n suffrr headaches constantly so my doc wants me to cross taper onto zoloft but that sounds scary did u do this at all? he wants me to take 10mg cit in morning n 50mg zoloft of a night
