I tried one dose of celexa and my trazodone later at night and I couldn't stop feeling like I had to pee for two days. Anyone else have this type of reaction? I looked up side effects of taking both but this didn't seem to show up. Should I continue to mix??
Have you been drinking a lot more fluids? I found initially I peed more often too but I also was thirsty from the bit of dry mouth you get with trazodone so I was drinking more fluids.

When I looked up the combination, this is what I found:

Interactions between your selected drugs

trazodone ↔ citalopram
Applies to:trazodone and Celexa (citalopram)

MONITOR CLOSELY: Concomitant use of agents with serotonergic activity such as serotonin reuptake inhibitors, monoamine oxidase inhibitors, tricyclic antidepressants, 5-HT1 receptor agonists, ergot alkaloids, lithium, St. John's wort, phenylpiperidine opioids, dextromethorphan, and tryptophan may potentiate the risk of serotonin syndrome, which is a rare but serious and potentially fatal condition thought to result from hyperstimulation of brainstem 5-HT1A and 2A receptors. Symptoms of the serotonin syndrome may include mental status changes such as irritability, altered consciousness, confusion, hallucination, and coma; autonomic dysfunction such as tachycardia, hyperthermia, diaphoresis, shivering, blood pressure lability, and mydriasis; neuromuscular abnormalities such as hyperreflexia, myoclonus, tremor, rigidity, and ataxia; and gastrointestinal symptoms such as abdominal cramping, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.

MANAGEMENT: In general, the concomitant use of multiple serotonergic agents should be avoided if possible, or otherwise approached with caution if potential benefit is deemed to outweigh the risk. Patients should be closely monitored for symptoms of the serotonin syndrome during treatment. Particular caution is advised when increasing the dosages of these agents. The potential risk for serotonin syndrome should be considered even when administering serotonergic agents sequentially, as some agents may demonstrate a prolonged elimination half-life. For example, a 5-week washout period is recommended following use of fluoxetine before administering another serotonergic agent. If serotonin syndrome develops or is suspected during the course of therapy, all serotonergic agents should be discontinued immediately and supportive care rendered as necessary. Moderately ill patients may also benefit from the administration of a serotonin antagonist (e.g., cyproheptadine, chlorpromazine). Severe cases should be managed under consultation with a toxicologist and may require sedation, neuromuscular paralysis, intubation, and mechanical ventilation in addition to the other measures.

I wanted to share my experience with Celexa and Trazadone. I came to be on celexa after not being able to stand the anxiety or nervousness i felt when I started on prozac, and same again with paxil. I had just found out my wife was divorcing me and I hadn't slept for 5 days. The trazadone helped with that. As I moved my way through my med selection and titration, I came to take a cocktail of 60-mg celexa, 3-mg ambien, and 50-mg trazadone each night at bed time. I did this for nearly a year. While I was often loopy, tired and disorganized, I had the most amazing unexpeted benefit--that my chronic headaches went away. It was a religious experience. Normally, I'd have only 2-3 headache free days per month, and while on this treatment combo, i had NONE for almost a whole year. Well, the heacaches reappeared after about 2 months. Researching the effects of the different drugs, I was able to focus on Trazadone as having potential benefit for fibromyalgia patients. And sure enough, i started back on an unfinished bottle of trazadone, and after about 2-weeks the headaches, and massive exhaustion after a day of physical exertion left me for good. I do find that trazadone makes my muscles feel sore and weak, though, so I titrated myself from 50- down to 25-, and then 12.5-mg to mitigate the effect. So now I'm feeling pretty good, maybe 2-3 days of headaches per month (manageable) and enough get up and go to help out with cores (in the yard or the kitchen) after a full day of work at the office. It's the only thing I've gotten any relief from for my fibromyalgia after trying to figure out why I've always had a headache, and presenting to doctors since 1997 to try and get some help, and finally it was my wife filing for divorce that got me the help I needed. God, or the universe, or what ever your source of the almighty is, will take care of you some way some how...
I just wanted to capture all this for someone else who might be having a hard time of it. It gets better. There is hope.

My husband JUST started taking 20 mg citalopram and 50mg trazadone. He read all the side effects and also potentially fatal effects. I personally think that if you read too much into the negative, u are setting yourself up for failure and possibly won't complete the meds or stay on them at all. My question is this:
Is there anyone out there that has or knows someone who has had these negative side effects occur while on these meds....to a high degree.(ie: seizures, serotonin syndrome etc)
Thank you all for your input.

this is the first time I've posted. I started about 5 years ago on c e l e x a after my wife passed away ..I am presently 66 years old ..I started on 20 milligram per my doctor and within 4 weeks went to 40 milligram ..on my own a couple of years later going through some other issues I went to 60 milligrams ...I did seem to have some other side effects and also I heard a warning from fda in regards to heart palpitations ...I quickly went back to 40 milligram and it has been working perfect ..I take them in the morning and if I have any issues sleeping I may take 50 mg , which is a very light dose. this whole program seems to work perfect for me ..I hope my information helps..

What Patty wrote above is my worst nightmare.( I have had that happen to me 3 times or more in my life)... I have a stash of Trazodone, but I don't really like it,(well, because I have valium...with valium, who needs trazodine?), but as I posted in another post, when I soon run out of what I have regarding benzos, & opiates I am not going back. This has been a 3 year deal, & I never bacame such a pill head till the past 3 years.
So, I may be stuck with Trazodone & I have Celexa as well, I just haven't started the treatment yet...I am having anxiety about having anxiety....(if that makes sense...lol).... I am waiting to run out of the pain meds I have since I am a pain pill addict.(3 more days, then suboxone for a week, then I start Celexa or maybe I will start Celexa while starting the suboxone this time?) It actually helps me feel better reading peoples struggles here on this forum. I don't feel so alone with my addiction issues & i don't have to move my lazy ass to an AA meeting which is nice. I will check in once I start the Celexa & am getting off the valium & hopefully I wont have a full on panic attack. I have had them in the past, & they are just awful. Thanks.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Sagittarius

You're feeling ultra optimistic today, which is great for summoning up the necessary energy to do what has to be done. But don't let it go to your head and convince you that you're capable of performing miracles. If you aren't behaving in this way you'll have to cope with someone who has a swollen head and thinks they're the cat's whiskers.
