Yes, Laura, that is normal. It can take anywhere from 2 weeks - 3 months for all the initial side effects to settle down. Hang in there and it should work out.

I think that all depends on the dose your doctor is staring you out on. You should start out on 5mg and go up to the prefered dose gradually. Some people don't start out slow and have these types of side effects. My understanding, is that they do go away. Those types of side effects are pretty scary, so I would talk to your doctor about starting slow, or if you're on the lowest, maybe changing medication. Hope that helps. My GP does not know much about side effects but I've done a ton of research myself. Good luck!

Antidepressant drugs (e.g. Celexa, Paxil) are actually causing unfortunate side effects according to various reports from its users, clinical trials and different publications such as http://www.paxilbirthdefectlaw.com/paxil-side... . Thus, it is important to report to your doctor your health condition upon taking any of this drug. It is also helpful to inform others on their harmful nature to avoid more untoward incidents like birth defects, psychosis and suicide.

I have been taking Celexa during the winter months for six years, and the teeth clenching does not subside. In fact, the clenching seems to increase each year.
A strong note of caution. This teeth clenching causes severe gum recession, and because of this, I have had to undergo several gum grafts and will likely have several more now. I otherwise have very healthy teeth. So please do take this teeth clenching side effect very seriously.
As per weight gain/loss: I have always gained about 10 pounds each year while on Celexa, however, have subsequently lost this weight each spring after discontinuing the medication for the summer months.
Hope this helps.

I have been on Celexa for about 2 months and I have to go back to my doctor. I took 20mg and she told me to half it if I felt strange so I took 10 mg since the 4 day. I have lost 20lbs. I was not big to begin with. I am now 113. I am tired all the time. What do all suggest?

I started Celexa almost 2 weeks ago. When I first started it I was 124 lbs and I am 5'1. For being this short and weigh this much I look chubby so I was estatic to lose some weight. The first week I literally had no appetite what so ever and I've always been a binge eater. Now I do have somewhat of an appetite back. I eat about once a day when my stomach starts growling and I realize that I haven't eaten yet but I still only eat about half of my meal and I don't eat again for the rest of the day. I have noticed I am shaky and I feel a little woozy in the morning before I take my medicine but after about an hour I'm ok. Other than those few side affects I feel sooooooo much better. I knew I was sad but didn't realize how depressed I was until I was crying everyday and I didn't feel like living anymore. Thanks to celexa and support from my family I am a much happier person and I am confident in looking for a part time job and continuing with my education. Just wanted to share my story :) I have not been diagnosed with bi polar disorder but my sister my mother and two of my aunts have so if you have bi polar disorder I would suggest trying celexa before the other antidepressants.

Oh and I didn't mention this about a month ago I was put on levothyroxine due to my thyroid not working which explained the extreme fatigue which probably attributed to my depression and mood swings. My weight loss might be because of my thyroid but I think its from the celexa. My friend also takes celexa and she's lost weight. I also take stackers because before I was taking my medications I was extremely tired. I was taking 3 to 4 stackers a day which was unhealthy but since taking the thyroid medicine and celexa I have cut down to one only becuse if I don't I get caffine withdrawels which gives me a migraine.
