I have been on Citalopram which is a generic of Celexa for about 2 years and it has increased my sex drive tremendously. I was on Effexor and Paxil which I had no sex drive at all. I think it all depends on the person. I would try another medicine to see if that is any better.

I am on citalopram and I have increased sex drive and multiple orgasms. I am 38 and have been on them for a little over a month. I cant find anyone else that this is happening too.I cant even sleep without having a million orgasms..I'm talking a million a day and night...Is anyone else experiencing this..I am too embarrassed to tell my dr.I know for a fact this is from meds because it never happened this intense until i started taking it.
I am the exact same way. I am 45 and sex has never been better!!! I do not have a million but more than 20 during intercourse.

One month? Just wait and if you are taking more than 10mg per day you will find yourself with zero sex drive. It may be 3 months 6 months or a year but you will see what this drug does to women!
My husband went through hell with me rejecting him and now after 2 years of hurting him Im off the drug and want him everyday but he has now lost interest for me sexually.
He is my bestfriend, husband, and support system but I dont have my lover anymore!
I will never take that drug or anything like it again.
I have been on Citalopram for over two years and my sex drive is through the roof, more than 20 orgasms during intercourse. My boyfriend loves it, I have never said no and always want more!!! I have tried other anti-depressants and I had no sex drive at all.

I stated taking Celexa about 2 months ago. While it has changed my life completely for the better.(I used to have very high anxiety.) I have NO sex drive. I used to be the go getter in my relationship, wanting it all the time, but now...NADA!

I'm noticing a huge decrease with my libido. It's not completely gone, but it's harder to stay lubricated. Never a problem before. I've only been on the 20mg for a month so we'll see if/how things stabilize.
Hope this helps!

I have been on celexa for over a year now and have hand zero sex drive the entire time. I just finally began the switch to wellbutrin this week and I am hoping this works as I cant stand it anymore. I am 23 years old and have no sex life, NOT NORMAL!!! I have heard its all of the SSRI's that cause this for women.
Tell Me about it. I only took celexa for a few mths and my sex drive still hasnt returned. Im 19, at this age I should be craving it all the time because my body is so young but I could honestly care less and It feels so uncomfortable. Ive been off it for about 2 mths and my libido is JUST starting to come back. I personally had my doc prescribe me xanax for when I have an anxiety attack so I can only take it when I need it. hopefully it helps.

Celexa has significantly affected my desire to have sex. I love my husband but could care less if we ever have sex again.. I decided two days ago that anxiety attacks are seriously worth it.. I would rather have sex and deal with anxiety the best that I can.

I couldn't agree with you more.. I started noticing changes after the 3rd/4th week on it. It sucks :( but not as bad as I expected.

I would like to clear my thoughts.
I do have the ability to orgasm, however I'm not obsessed by sex.
At 50, my male parts work ok, initiating sex is not so important to me. If I really want to climax I can enjoy that alone. For me, the pros of Celexa out weigh the cons. It has more than two years since any intercourse, and I'm ok with that. I'm content and loving life, staying out of trouble, and my family really sees a different personality in me on Celexa.
I'm much better person on Celexa than illegal narcotics for depression.
Phew! Please give me some feedback?

I am 20 and have been on Celexa due to panic attacks. First they put me on 20 mg and i started to loose desire, and when i went back in to talk to my doc. i had mentioned the panic attacks still occured but not as often and as forceful and she up'ed my dosage to 40 MG. Now i cant even get into the mood and i have ZERO desire to have sex. THIS IS HORRIBLE! AND DEFINATLY NOT RIGGHT!
Can anybody help me?

I am worried about the same things the rest of your girls are concerned about. I started Celexa 20mg yesterday for generalized anxiety. My doctor told me that Celexa was better than some of the other SSRI's as far as sexual side effects are concerned. However, she mentioned adding Wellbutrin if I did have these side effects. Has anyone tried this or know anything about it?
I tried welbutrin before celexa, had no problems with my sex drive but I had severe dry mouth at night and was up a lot to drink water. Then I was up to pee and didn't get a good night of sleep. I was told the dry mouth would desist in a month. But dealing with that for a month wasn't worth it. Also, if you suffer from anxiety wellbutrin is not a good med for you it increases anxiety. I switched to celexa which I like however it make me lose my O which is frustrating. Now trying to see if I can switch to something else with no sexual side effects or something can be added to the celexa to fix this.

First 3 weeks I was on 20mg of citalopram. I am now on 40mg have been taking them for nearly 2 months. Loss of apetite but still trying to eat more. As for my sex drive, its crazy. I can't get enough sex and always wanting more. Its kind of embarrassing having to control myself around the men its just crazy. Being a single female I feel like im constantly hunting down the male species! How do you kill this buzz? It's tiring having to control it.

Well I am sorry girl. I can say I know how u feel. I had a rough year right along with u. I would say u are hurt woman. The man u love hurt u. How could u trust him again and want to jump back into bed with him? You may have kids with him but that's not a reason to stay. He had to go play behind your back remember that, once a cheater always a cheater. I wouldn't have sex with him either medicine or not. I hope that you get yourself better and know you are a good person and don't need a cheating fool in your life. Tell him to send you child support and go get yourself a new man mama! Good luck to u.

my wife is on celexa and has a flat lined libido. As stated above she does not notice or care that she has no sex drive. Their are other factors though. She is a stay home mom with a 2.5 year old and a 6 month old. I have read that sleep deprivation can cause low testostorone levels, yes women need testostorone too, and low t levels means no libido. I help right after work and on the weekends so she can rest but she doesnt nap or go to bed early even though I insist she does. Also I think there are psychological issues she battled chronic yeast infection for 2 years early in our marriage.
Basically it seems that libido is already an issue for her and celexa just made her not care and give up all togethor. I hope that the rest of you realise a relationship without intamacy is no more than a friendship and it has strained our marriage to the point of divorce. I cant go through with it though, I dont want to share my kids.

I started taking celexa after I was diagnosed with pmdd. for the first 5 months of taking the drug i had no sex drive whatsoever and it began to interfere with my relationship. But fortunately for me my doctor said I could start taking the drug in reduced doses (take it once daily 15 days after end of period) and now it seems to have a complete opposite effect in which I now want to have sex ALL the time. But it is better than no sex at all. try asking your doctors if there is anyway possible to reduce the dose

This is one of those days when money slips through your fingers in no time at all unless you're very vigilant about your spending habits. Unfortunately, it will be difficult to stop yourself splashing out whenever the fancy takes you, whether or not you can afford it. You're especially drawn to tempting little treats and luxurious indulgences.
