Thank you all for sharing and helping me realize I am not the only one! I have been on Celexa for the past 2 years. I began taking Celexa at the same time as my divorce and have been thinking that my subsequent difficulties orgasming were a side effect of divorce. It never occurred to me it was the medication! It's disheartening to hear that one person hasn't been able to regain the ability to orgasm after two years off Celexa. It's more hopeful to hear that there may be some prescription alternatives I can try. All I know is that I'm calling my doc tomorrow!

Hi all, I am 22 year old female and have had a really bad year, I lost my grandma earlier on in the year and broke up with my bf of 4 years a few months ago.. My doctor has prescribed me with citalopram (celexa) and I am due to start taking them soon to battle my depression.. I have done some research about the drug and decided to read up on it before starting treatment.. I feel taking it would help.. But all these comments are really beginning to freakkk me out! I love having sex.. And altho I am no longer with my bf I still have a sexual partner that I enjoy having sex with and now I'm really scared that I'm going to lose the ability to orgasm! Do any of u have any advice on this?? Wil I have difficulty orgasming even wen I'm off the drug :s ?? And also general side effects u may hav experienced with taking the drug? Thankssss!!

Hi all, after my 4th foiled suicide attempt in 6months I hospitalised and abruptly yanked off my antidepressant(which I'd overdosed on) I was diagnosed with epilepsy and hav bn off treatment 4 that aswell 4 a wk now because the doc needed tym figuring out wat was safest 4 me given the suicidal past. Point is after 3 wks off citalopram my virtually nonexistant prior libido is now over active. I'm celebate 4 religous reasons so this is becoming quite a challenge to my morality yet a compromise in would inevitably depress me hopelessly. Am I alone? I hear ppl complain of decreased sex drive while I'v become almost constantly aroused after 3wks off which it is a highly unwelcome change in the life of a celebate person.

Well, I was taking celexa for a number of months, and I am young. I noticed that it took only minutes or even seconds for me to ejaculate before I started taking celexa, and then when I started taking it, my girlfriend and I's sexual relationship went completely in sync. We achieved orgasms at the same time.
What confuses me is I enjoy the fact that it takes me an hour at least rather than a minute. Anyway, thanks for all the info on here.

I am 50, 40 mg celexa daily. I concur with everything I read here. My orgasms are very difficult to achieve, and many times I just stop masturbation fully erect, too exhausted and frustrated to continue. However, when I do cum, it is Soooo powerful that I'm almost in pain from the contractions. My butt cheeks tighten so hard, ect. You may relate... anywho, I am quite content without the constant reminder from my penis to satisfy your sexual urge. That was a huge distraction for me. Yup, its hard to cum. The desire is reduced, I still a sexy female and feel that primal urge, but I don't act on it. I can definitely sympathize with a young person on Celexa. Try a drug holiday before sex. Might work. I do enjoy dissolving the two tablets on my tongue in the morning. What a rush. Feel the drug at work. Wow. Erect nipples, testicles tight to body, arched back, partial erection. Nice. Lasts about 45 mins. Feels like orgasm without ejaculation. Beautiful. Very interesting, afterwards I'm a space cadet, for a bit, then lots of coffee (all day) Wawa 24 oz, I am normal, except I'm very talkative. People tell me to stop. I love hearing myself talk.... Strange huh? I am. But I know that decreased orgasms is a small price to pay when comparing to a heroin addiction. Also, Celexa has eliminated the urge for bad drugs and helped with cigarettes too. Yay! I feel good, and can live life on life's terms. Amen.

Oh my goodness. I've been on 40mg of Celexa for about a week now, and EVER since I started, I cannot orgasm. It's exactly like what everybody says.. i get SOOO close... and then nothing. Orgasming was never a problem for me before; if I couldn't orgasm during sex, I would still be able to orgasm by touching myself. After Celexa, I can't orgasm either way. It's so ridiculously frustrating. I've been on other antidepressants before, and things were still normal on those. Sigh.

I am on celexa now. 40 milligrams. i took it years ago and just stopped but recently i was advised by my therapist to see a psychiatrist who practically forced me to get on the meds. anyway though the medication is a wonder drug in my mind. it has significantly reduced my anxiety which has been severe for years. and i am able to drink relatively heavily which i quite frankly like to do sometimes. it has hurt my sex drive buy i was too anxious anyway to get laid beforehand or meet girls so for the time being it doesn't really matter. but yeah. this is a great medicine and i hope everyone does well on it.

I took Celexa for months at the early dose of 20mg i found that sexual stamina was normal. when i moved up to 40mg I was seldom in the mood and when i was it was a marathon to reach climax. sex, masturbation everything.
worse yet while having sex if for any reason there was a interruption and my focus was lost off the "mission" poof erection lost.

I take 30 mg of Celexa (generic) and not only does it take me longer to get off, sometimes even when I do ejaculate, I don't even orgasm. Kind of sucks. It's a rarity, but other than that I feel great. I've been on it for about a year and a half, and I'm also on a mood stabilizer called Lamotrogine (i think that's it's generic name). Either way...I'm actually able to function and live a happy life, so I guess all in all I'm ok with it. It's not like I never get off, it's just sometimes more of a struggle. But then again it's sex, so it's not like it's not a fun effort. Don't worry about it, when you first start with the medication your body needs to adjust to it. One thing that helped me was getting some aphrodisiacs...like lavender and tea trea (essential oils)...if you go to a health spot where they sell essential oils, talk to one of the people that works there about it (they've heard it all, trust me) and they should be able to hook you up.

I am a 24yr old female. I have severe anxiety and switched to celexa 6 months ago due to no longer having insurance. I also had a baby 7 months ago. I have been blaming the childbirth for my inability to orgasm but after this much time im starting to think its the medication. My sex drive is no different, but I cannot climax. I need to be on a medication but there are MANY others out there to choose from. I use to be on Lexapro and it was amazing. It didn't affect me near as much sexually and I had tons more energy.
If your insurance covers it, try Lexapro!!!

I've been taking citalopram for about 3 months now & I haven't been able to get off since I started. The Med seems to b helping my bipolar but im wondering if its worth it. Before I had a very strong sex drive now I barely have one at all. I'm going to get my Dr. to get me the Hell off this shit, its more depressing than my bipolar.

I've been on celexa for 1 1/2 years, noticeable loss in sex drive and unable to orgasm...just started to come off 3 weeks ago, I am weaning off very slowly...side effects are headache and dizziness so far...hoping all my normal functions will be back to normal soon. Don't want to be on this anymore.

On Celexa for me the orgasm takes longer. Yet I find that if I let myself totally lose control it will be easier and the orgasms on Celexa can last long and be more intense. In fact as a female it becomes easy to have a plateau pleasurable level and reach multiple orgasms. The entire problem is simply getting over the top just getting there. I am also 50 and orgasms are intense but it takes the individual relaxing and losing one's self. I actually had a more difficult time on Prozac
