Hello, I'm glad I found this forum online for Celexa... Im a 28 year old male, and was encouraged by my physician to start taking this drug about 3 weeks ago do help with my depression and overall poor mood/energy. Before even starting this medication, I noticed my sex drive decreased from where it would have been, say a year ago. I also noticed it seemed to take longer to ejaculate then in the past. Since being on the medication, it seems it is taking even longer to ejaculate to the point if I am masturbating I sometimes just give up. I know that others have reported problems with delayed ejaculations while on this, but I'm wondering if I had the problem before starting if something else is wrong? Any ideas? Thanks.

I am a woman and I too am finding that I cant even orgasm. My husband has got to the point where he said when I am off my meds we will make love. Yeah that is how bad it is.
But I am glad that the drug is helping me with my moods. I can go without sex for three months. That is how long my doctor wants me to take the pills as I am coping with the loss of my dad.

I havent really noticed much improvement in my mood, but then again I have only been using celexa fro about 3 weeks right now. How quickly did you notice a change in your mood/sexual ability?

The first two weeks of taking 10mg my mind was cloudy and foggy - I was going to stop using it, but my doctor said be patient.
At the end of week 3 is when I noticed that my moods were getting better.Although this is also when I noticed that it took forever to reach orgasm. And I am not all that interested in sex, and that is not me at all. But at least I am feeling better, not so angry and seeming out of control. I am able to better cope with the loss of my dad.
Now its coming to one month and I feel so much better.

I was on Celexa to help combat my depression. After 20 days, I decided to stop taking the celexa, because it was making it impossible for me to ejaculate, especially in the morning. When i'm with a partner, it was quite embarassing not being able to ejaculate. After being off of Celexa for about a week, it seems easier to ejaculate, however I'm still not back to normal, so I hope there are no long term problems with this medication. I just started Wellbutrin which aparantly does not have any sexual side effects. I guess we will see what side affects come with that!

My husband takes 40 mg of citalopram. He has a healthy sex drive, but he is unable to ejaculate. Is there any supplement he can take or anything I can do to help achieve orgasm?

I've been on 30mg for 8 days now and I've only managed 2 orgasms. This is a massive difference to normal, I used to be capable of more that that per day!
I can't help but think this will affect sexual relationships if it continues - and won't that breed anxiety and depression itself?!
I wouldn't say I feel any better either, lightheaded and a little high sometimes but it still feels like an emotional rollercoaster.
Question. If you're taking meds for anxiety will they help even if the source of the anxiety remains unchanged?

I have been on celexa for 5 days now and i can not ejaculate even after hours of sex. I am on 20 mgs 1x a day. Is there anything i can do to help this. My wife and i are trying to get pregnant.
Should i just stop the meds? This is really frusturating for my wife and i both. I do not have health insurance and can't afford to keep going to the doctor.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Tell your husband to take GNC's male performance vitamin. He can also take 300mg of ginseng, and 240 mg of ginko.

Just have him try the GNC supplement and mix in around 240 mg of ginko. I hope this helps.

Don't worry you are not on your own. I am 43 years old and I have the same problem as you. I masturbated for an hour and gave up in the end, this situation was not a one off either. I decided to come off the drug for this reason and slowly my sexual feelings are coming back but I am still concerned that I will not return to nromality. Had I known about the sexual side effects of this drug I would not have taken it. My friend had the same problems but he has encouraged me because he said his full libido came back eventually.

Happypill are you still experiencing the inability to orgasm? I came off Celexa but nothing changed until I began a specific stimulation combination that I created since vivrators I tried did not help (I am an engineer by trade). My friend is still on Celexa and wants to stay on but she wants to try my device. I am working on hers and her mold now and I will keep you posted on her success if she has any if you want to know how it goes.

I've been on celexa for 5 days now. I'm having the same problem. My wife and I had sex for 2 hours last night and I could not ejaculate at all. She loved it, but this is not going to work for me. I'm seriously thinking about calling my doc and stopping this.

I have been having the same problem since starting 1 week ago. I'm going to get off -- I knew there were possible sexual side effects, but not the inability to orgasm. No problem otherwise sexually which is strange to me. I could understand if i were not able to achieve an erection but to be able to do so but not orgasm is not a good experience.

I've been on it for 7 months now, and the ability to orgasm has improved. Like the other side effects, this one was worse at the beginning and has tapered down. Most of the time, it's completely normal, sometimes takes a little longer than usual, but nothing outrageous.

I've had some welcomed delay but no decrease in libido. Might decrease my dosage. Its a great medicine - going to stay with it.

I am a 28 yr old male. I was on 20 mg citalopram for anxiety and depression after my divorce. Sex was the last thing on my mind and so I don't think that I really noticed the sexual side effects. I started dating a woman and I quickly realized that it sapped my libido (not wanting sex and weak erections) and it would take me forever to ejaculate. I stopped taking the drugs a week ago and my libido is still down (but I can now ejaculate normally!!). I recognize that a decreased sex drive can be caused by depression and anxiety but I feel almost back to normal except for my sex drive. I've always really enjoyed sex and this is somewhat distressing.

I took Celaxa 20 mg for 6 years and quit cold turkey 18 months ago.

Just started taking it again this week.
Too much depression in my head right now.

Before Celexa and after getting off Celexa I had insomnia, very high sex drive, lots of stress, and bouts of depression.

All these symptoms came back after getting off Celaxa including the high sex drive.

My sex drive was a 10 and my wifes is a 2. I thought about sex all the time. I needed sex 4-5 times a week and my wife wants it every 10 days.
We probably had sex 2 times a week and I was always frustrated and wanting more.

While taking Celexa my sex drive was still higher than hers. But I only wanted sex once a week. The Celaxa actually helped our relationship in this regard. Not getting enough sex was part of my my stress. Difficulty achieving orgasm is a bummer, but for me it just takes a lot longer. I can still do it most of the time. If I cant I try to make sure that she has one.

It is a side effect she is willing to accept. She does not get pressured for sex as often but it does take much longer now.

I remembers skipping some Saturday Am pills and I think that helped on Saturday night.

I might try taking Viagra to see if that helps me achieve orgasm faster and maintain a stiffer erection.

All of these problems are normal for this pill.
If you had a low sex drive to start this might not be a good choice for you. If you had high sex drive it will go down but you can still enjoy sex.

Just make sure your partner is willing to spend the extra time

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
