Liz, thanks for your response, however, that's how it started with me (yawning).. but it progressed into extreme exhaustion. I can easily sleep 11-12 hours per night and still not feel rested :( I need to go off but just wish I knew someone out there who might have tried another anti-anxiety/depressant that was a bit more stimulating rather than sedating. I've been on this drug over a year so it's not just a matter of "getting used to it."

Oh no, thats not good, i hope this doesn't last forever! I too am feeling really tired, its also making me have little to no appetite. This I can live with, its just that nothing even sound good to eat. I am going to give it a few weeks.

Hi
Iv been on celexa for about 4 months and the last month of that iv been on 40mg a day but all it seems to do is make me sleep all day everyday. I have read that the tiredness is supposed to reduce overtime but as i have already missed so much of college as a result of it dont know if it would just be better to be depressed but actually awake.

I've been on Celexa for almost 2wks, and the first week is the hardest, but the head buzz and dizziness has pretty much gone, the only thing is bradycardia (slowing of the heartrate from 80 to 68), which does make me a little tired. My dosage is 20mg, think I'll drop down to half and keep an eye on my bp and pulse. By the way, I don't even have to take bp medicine now! It's really calmed me down. I love it.

I was taking zoloft and it was awful, then switched to celexa,I feel better.I take 20mg at bedtime, and 5mg of valium to help me sleep. I sleep much better. I haven't slept well for years due to alcoholism. I quit 3yrs ago and have not slept more than4-5 hrs a night.I now sleep pretty good. I have been on the two for about a month.

I've always had problems with depression and anxiety throughout the most of my young adult life. I've been on Paxil at a young age and after my first child was put on Wellbutrin. The Paxil helped for depression, but the Wellbutrin seemed to have absolutely NO effect. Since then, I've attempted to manage my depression and anxiety on my own..with little or no success, i decided to ask my obgyn about managing my anxiety. When I told her about my history, she prescribed me Lexapro, but when I went to pick it up, my insurance didn't cover it; it was $120. Ouch! So I called back to my doc, and she re-prescribed me Celexa. I take 20mg and have been on it so far only a week and can tell a difference already. Unlike the other posts, I find that when I drink a little caffiene, I have plenty of energy. So far, I am pleased.

Miyth,
Have you discussed this with your doctor? It might be worth considering doing this - write out your list of symptoms in advance if you feel this may help.
Have you also been noticing any differences in your gait? Are you walking less fluidly, perhaps hitting door frames? Been looking down at your feet more?
As far as the Celexa goes:-
Dizziness/lightheadedness are adverse effects.
The constant yawning is a movement disorder (noted by many patients, but doctors are generally unaware of the prevalence of jaw dystonias/dyskinesias in association with serotonin boosters).
The exhaustion, lack of energy and apathy is also a side-effect experienced by many - again, doctors are apt to see this as an increase in 'depression', being unaware of the prevalence of the problem - ask your doctor to do a swift academic paper research on 'frontal lobe syndrome' and 'amotivational syndrome' in connection with the SSRIs (or google yourself, using the 'scholar' search option, and take the papers with you to your physician); alternatively, research drug-induced Parkinsonism. Both are possible explanations for the phenomenon.
I, among others, have had experienced your symptoms i.e. chronic tiredness and sleepiness, apathy and amotivation, dizziness (+/- nausea), jaw problems (yawning, bruxism, clenching).
Check yourself out for other adverse drug symptoms: ear sensitivity, tinnitus, eye sensitivity/problems, sexual dysfunction, joints moving/rattling (perhaps at night?), tremors, twitches, constipation or diarrhoea, skin or hair changes, rashes/itches, emotional blunting, loss of inhibition (behavioural changes, out of character impulse decisions, increases in spending), becoming more irritable or aggressive, pacing about a lot (important side-effect) or a desire to keep moving...

I've been on celexia for 6 weeks. I have dry and sore mouth most days, which I can deal with however the tiredness is just unbelievable. As is the shallow breathing. I yawn lots. The shallow breathing came on after 10 days. I have got used to it now and it has not got any worse. I just feel like my chest is tight. I have been to the docs and he has checked my heart and chest all ok. I was tried from my depression but nothing like I now. I can go to bed for 10 hours and wake up once or twice in the night. When I get up in the morning I feel like I haven't been to bed! I could sleep all day too. Depression was easier to cope with than the exhaustion. Having said that learning to rest when tired is an important lesson for all of us. I'll keep you posted as to how I get on.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Capricorn

You feel like overindulging yourself in some way today, and why not? Throw caution to the wind and eat your way through a big bar of chocolate, or have a retail therapy session that leaves you reeling from the amount of money you've spent. There's a definite chance you could get carried away and tell a whopper of a story that has little resemblance to what really happened. What on earth has got into you?
