I am on celexa and trazadone, even though I take my celexa every day and my trazadone every once in awhile my dreams are really weird where I can't tell when my dreams end and reality begins. I talked to my therapist and she told me that since these drugs are so new they still don't know what effects they have on our mental consciousness. Her advice is to wait it out after your body is use to the dosage things should go back to normal. In my case I record my dreams in a pad because it helps me remember things that I locked away which were really painful growing up.

I have been taking Celexa for about 2 years now and I have the same problem (long, vivid, strange dreams that last all night long). I've been thinking it might be a side effect but wasn't sure, because I've also had a lot of events happen in my life that I thought could be the cause...but sometimes I wake up and feel all disturbed from my dreams and I don't feel rested at all, it makes it so hard. So I decided to look into other causes. Anyway, seeing other people having the same problems who are taking Celexa really makes me relieved! I mean, last night my dream was so vivid, I woke up hitting my husband on the back in the middle of the night. I felt so bad!
Does anybody know if there is any remedy to this? Or is the only solution to find different medication?

I've been on Citalopram for about a month. I was really drowsy at the beginning, still am. But now after a month, I'm having really vivid dreams that I remember. Just last night I can remember 3 dreams and I feel like they last the whole night. What sucks is that I wake up about 1 or 2 times a night because of my dreams. They feel so real, or it's more of a nightmare. I really hope they go away so I can have a restful nights sleep. Happy to know I'm not the only with with crazy dreams though, sucks that it's a side effect.

I officially had the worse dream ever. I will be starting a dream book as well.. I knew there was a side effect to dream, but never in my life would I have had a dream like this normally. I guess I have had some trauma from growing up in Brooklyn, Ny. I am in my early 30's female, only on 10 mg of celex. I dream I was back where I grew up. There was a shooting out side 3 young girls got shot. My son was riding his bike to come home and while he is avoiding the shooting gets hit by a car. And is laying in the blood of the girls. And shaking so I pick him up and hold him close.. has me in tears..

I had several strange dreams three weeks into a 10mg dose. Some were more disturbing than others, and I would wake up exhausted. They were things like getting shot in the head by my grandparents, running down a street away from a psycho with a knife, going on a fast food binge, flying unassisted, and others. They would wake me up and I would be unable to go back to sleep for about an hour. Also, I found it more difficult to get to sleep in the first place. I am going off the medication, because it is messing up my sleep too much and I am a student and need to be able to stay awake and alert during the day.

i have been on 40 mgs of celexa for 1 & 1/2 yrs. and my dreams are EXTREMELY VIVID. i can frequently remember dreams as clear as day for Hours after i wake up. i feel like my dreams keep me from getting good sleep b/c i feel Exhausted when i wake up, like i didnt even sleep. my dreams are Too Much! it's as if im watching a movie in my sleep, all night long. sometimes, i can even "control" my dreams, like i can make myself fly or whatever. Also, i quite frequently have very Bad and/or Stressful dreams, which causes me to wake up A Lot during the night. i would Definitely say that the vivid-dream-side-effect of celexa is kinda a big issue for me. there are times when it does effect my everyday life. however, almost 2 wks ago i stopped taking celexa cold-turkey and have been having Wicked-Bad side-effects that are almost Intolerable. Also, i have not been dreaming, or at least it seems that way to me. i dont remember dreaming at all. it's been this way for about 4 nights now, probably b/c it took a while for the drug to stop having an effect on my brain. i am seriously considering going back on it b/c i feel like shit. does anyone know of a different anti-depressant that Doesn't cause crazy dreams???

When I first started I had vivid nightmares every night, and now I have the vivid dreams. I wake up feeling exhausted and can't sleep past 8 o'clock and I'm one to be able to sleep the day away. I hope this subsides as I'm on it longer I've been on it close to a month.

I've been on Celexa 20mgs for about 4 months now (had to switch from Lexapro due to the cost) & I, too, have experienced vivid dreams almost every night. They seem like they go on forever during my sleep & it creeps me out when I first wake up in the a.m. & remember the craziness of the dreams. I wake up with my arms tensed up & it almost feels like an anxiety attack for a few minutes until my brain 'wakes up'. I never had vivid dreams on Lexapro, maybe once in a great while but not to this current extent.#JMcghee, I'm not surprised you feel like *hit from stopping the Celexa - I forgot ONE dose of it earlier this week...couldn't remember if I took it or not...and by the next morning (which is when I take the Celexa)I was feeling weird & knew I must have missed the dose. It took 2 days to feel like I was back on track. This medicine worries me & I wish I could get off it.

Ive been on citalopram (generic for celexa) for 3 months now. I was a wreck before I started. Accusing hysband of cheating when he comes straight home after work, terrified of driving after our car accident & have panic attacks while driving & at stores. All is gone now. Im laid back, happy, patient, even developed a sence of humor. But damn these dreams! Most of my dreams are very vivid, but I just woke up from a nap & can remember parts of it. I dreamt I left my hubby for my ex b/f from 12 yrs ago. I lived in a trailer, I had my 4 kids with me, my b/f, kids, friends & I were racing and mudding, I drove an astin martin (nice!), we startd doing donuts in this field and my 1 yr old and 2 year old got covered in this mud from it. When we got back at some place, these people were hunting down other people because field had a lot of nuclear radiation and these people wanted to (business ppl in hazmat suits) kill my babies because they were contaminated and didn't want them contaminating others. There was more but can't really remember. But you would've had to see my dream to understand. I freaked when I woke up. Heart is still goin like crazy! I never have dreams like this! I was offthe meds for a few days because I couldn't afford to refill my script, but the dreams are worse when not taking the meds. Those few days were the worst dreams in my life. Too disturbing to say! But all in all, the meds make me feel great. Ill take the crazy dreams over depression and anxiety any day!

I have been taking celexa for about two years steadily and my dosage went from 20mg to 40mg this past week and the past 3 nights my dreams have been extremely vivid. I decided to see if anyone else was having the same symptoms or it was just coincidence and I'm shocked to see how common it is. My dreams have not been bad like a lot of people's but I'm worried they might get scary. Mine have been extreme in color, situation (but almost similar each night in the way I see the dream and behave) and I remember them so well. Last night I actually woke my self up from laughing in my sleep. I'd be interested to know what is causing this and why it's not labeled as a symptom

The higher the dose, the crazier and more vivid the dream. Like I said, im on 40 mg and my dreams are crazy. I never have the crazy dreams other than during pregnancy. I have erotic dreams about a friend of my husbands, but im not attracted to him. Some dreams are scarey, some erotic. I hate it, but with how I feel all day from the med, its totally worth it! I feel so mu h better now.

Quentez wrote: As ive increased my dosage of celexa my dreams are being affected. Each night I have very vivid and unusual dreams that seem to last my whole sleep. Luckily for me, they havnt really been frightening nightmares but they seem to last the entire night. Each morning I can remember what felt like at least 3 or 4 hours of dreams. Ive always dreamed alot, but this is very excessive, and according to many articles that I read, dreaming this much is not a good thing. Has anyone experienced the same thing and have any insight or advice? Also, im thinking of slowing lowering my dose but I noticed many posts stating that the vivid and unusual dream increase when going OFF Celexa, so Im hesitant. Ive been taking celexa for about 2 months now and am currently at a 40mg dose. I havnt had any other problematic side effects, other than the usual tiredness. I am on the same dosage (40) and have been taking for 3 years. I just logged on to this website to look up unusual dreams w/Celexa and we have the exact same problem. Every time (day or night) I close my eyes to sleep. I have very vivid dreams that seem to last the entire night and I remember most all of the dream. I can't be getting rest. I need to call my doctor and get a different medication or dose because I can'r do this any more. Maybe you need to do the same. I should have done this years ago but I was taking other medications and blood thinners so I blammed them.

I've been having weird dreams too. Last night I dreamed I being attacked by a Rottweiler. I remember hitting at it and waking up thinking I had hit my husband, but he was asleep. I asked him about it in the morning and he said that I yanked the pillow out from under his head. I don't remember doing that. I don't know if this is considered a night terror.
