This is my third day (10mg) and within hours of taking I felt that relaxed/tired feeling. I slept better than I have in years and when my little boy came to wake me in bed the following morning for the first time in absolutely ages I was actually enjoying the precious moments of chatting with him before he goes off to school. Something i have not really felt for 6/7 years. Normally I wake and wish to god he would leave me alone and pray that I can sleep as I am normally so exhausted when I wake.(I am very lucky as my husband knows how bad mornings are for me and he takes care of our children). Only 3 days in but I can feel the smile on my face returning - then I'm smiling again because I know I am smiling and I can feel a little bit like my old self. I get that feeling about 2 hours after taking it - up to 3,4 or 5 hours later of nauseousness - but I don't mind that because I can feel some feelings of happinness returning. I have had no dreams only deep sleep which I am grateful for. Oh going back to the horrible sicky tummy feeling - another reason I don't mind putting up with this Is I am a bottle of wine a night girl and this sicky feeling is helping me not to drink - so far so good for me. I only hope all my good experiences stay and it only gets better. Ps have suffered from depression for on/off 22 years and have been on various seroxat/Prozac ect, and I was a hopeless insomniac! Hope this post makes people realise that not everyone gets side effects, also I think mainly people with side effects contribute to these very very useful sights and that maybe if your taking this medication and 'getting on very nicely' without any problems you may not be on the web researching the effects, and therefore not contributing the good side. My hope is there are people taking this and getting there lives so back on track, that they have not put pen to paper to shout the good stuff. I plan to find this sight again in say a week and let you know if it's still feeling better. My best thoughts to all of you.

Forgot to say noticed on all three days within half hour or so of taking it I do talk a lot - I talk a lot anyway but have noticed I'm sort of talking quicker, but because I have noticed i try to slow it down - its still only day 3 so that could level out, and it only lasts a few hours or so

Hi all

Have been taking 20mg citalopram for just over a month now. I was prescribed these for anxiety and was very apprehensive about taking them having read all of the bad feedback on the web. All I can say is, I have never felt better. I have been fortunate to have no side effects and the benefits are that the anxiety attacks have gone and it feels like someone has lifted the fog from my brain. I can think clearly and remember things for more than a nanosecond!

I take them mid morning and my alertness seems okay throughout the day. Occasionally, I am still mentally awake at night although body is tired so might experiment with taking them early evening. Doc said to experiment with the times and I will keep my eye out here for other experiences.

We all react differently to meds so just though I would share my very positive experience which will hopefully help newly prescribed people.

Regards
Ryan

I just started taking citalopram a week ago (20mg/day). The first few days i took it in the morning and noticed that i felt tired. So, a few days ago I began taking it in the evngs w/dinner... And, i sleep fine...wake-up at my usual 7:30am, and by 9 am sleepy again for another 2-3hrs!(momentarily unemployed so it's ok, but i am going to start splitting the dosage to 10mg to see if that helps!) It does help calm my racing heart, tho (am taking if for anxiety).
Thank you so much with your information, it helped me so much with my father. God Bless You!

Have been taking 20mg of Citalopram for many years now. It specifies on the prescription bottle to take in the morning... which I do faithfully before breakfast. Since I have had trouble sleeping all my life, I was also prescribed zolpiden at bedtime which helps me sleep. No problem of sleepiness during the day.

I'm on 50 mg of Celexa, 0.5 mg of Xanex, and 1.5 of Zyprexa which was added because my depression wasn't better. I was on it for approx. 10 yrs and it has worked awesome for me. Then I had to take HBP and high cholesterol pills. Within five yrs. of starting the last two, I became severely exhausted for no reason. I have had chronic fatigue now for over two yrs. I am thankful that other than weight gain and appetite increase I have no depression or anxiety. However, I'm wondering if I need to change to the Celexa or Zyprexa to give me back my energy. I can barely get through the day doing light housework. When I try and decrease the Celexa or Zyprexa I get a burning sensation in my body and find myself getting down. I know I can't live with the severe depression and anxiety I once had so I know I have to be on medication to give me some semblance of a normal life. Anyone have any suggestions as they had to try me on 16 different antidepressants to find one that didn't give me severe side effects.

Thank you everyone for your insights. I feel like I am in a bit of a different situation. I have never been depressed, nor have had mood issues. People actually say that I am always happy and have a smile on my face. My only problem is I can not sleep. I have tried 3 different sleeping pills and they do not work. It actually will have the opposite effect on me. I am very busy, and have to be doing something all of the time. I am at work at 7:30 in the morning and won't get home most nights until 10 or 11 pm. Then I do things around the house and won't get to bed until midnight-1am. When I finally do go to sleep, I will wake up several times and never feel rested. If I get 4-5 hours of (restless) sleep, that's good. My doctor told me that my brain does not settle down and because of this, I have some anxiety. She prescribed Citalopram to help me sleep (she said to take it at night). However, so many of you have said that it KEEPS YOU AWAKE! I took it for the first time last night (before reading these posts)and I do feel like it helped me sleep better (got 4 hours of good sleep; although that could be because I was so mentally and physically exhausted). I am hoping that I will feel like RYAN feels and be able to focus on one thing at a time and think better (remember things), and get at least 6 hours of restful sleep. I will take it for a couple-three months and if it doesn't help or make me feel worse, I will stop using it and just deal with lack of sleep. Does anyone else take it for sleeplessness due to a racing mind???

Hi Stella,
it sounds as if I am a duplicate of you, am generally pretty happy go lucky, but battle with sleep due to an over active mind, especially if something out of the ordinary is on the go. Also struggle to focus on one thing at a time, busy busy busy. Just got the meds, goin to take for the first time tonight. How you going so far?

Daily Horoscope for June 2

You feel like overindulging yourself in some way today, and why not? Throw caution to the wind and eat your way through a big bar of chocolate, or have a retail therapy session that leaves you reeling from the amount of money you've spent. There's a definite chance you could get carried away and tell a whopper of a story that has little resemblance to what really happened. What on earth has got into you?
