Weight loss on Citalopram?

Has anyone had any weight changes either loss or gain whilst taking Citalopram. I've heard so many horror stories about people gaining loads of weight, and some losing, I know everyone is different, but just wondered what your experiences have been. Thanks

I have lost quite a bit of weight...

Since I started taking Celexa...

I lost weight on both Prozac and Celexa. It kills my appetite.
Paxil is the one with the weight gain issues.

25 pounds gained in 6 months on celexa- huge appetite and I tried switching to wellbutrin only to have huge anger issues- guess Im stuck with the weight gain:(

My appetite on Citalopram is almost gone, I eat when I'm starving, because nothing intrigues me anymore. I used to like pizza, burgers, Chinese food, all this stuff, now nothing sounds good to eat anymore. Maybe this is a good time to start eating healthier for myself.

Gained 35 to 40 pounds!

I have been taking Celexa for nearly two years now. Prior to taking Celexa I was on Lexapro and I actually lost my appetite. However with Celexa I had an increase in appetite and weight gain over a nine month period. In total I put on approximately 20 pounds. I am still taking Celexa but have been gradually decreasing my dose from 20mg to .5 mg. Surprisingly the weight is starting to come off quite rapidly. I'm not positive but I believe at least in my case a lot of it was water gain.

Well I have been on it since my original post for coming up for 4 weeks and my appetite has certainly been zapped by it. I no longer crave the stuff I did before, which is a good thing I guess. My side effects wore off after 2 weeks and now I feel fine, apart from unbelievable amounts of yawning !!!

Samantha, what dose are you on, i started with 20mg and after 7 weeks asked my doc to reduce the dose to 10mg as the constant yawning and lethargy was driving me insane(pardon the pun) i have only been on the reduced dose for the past 4 days and it has had an effect. I just hope that my depression does not get worse as i am not keen to up the dose again, here's hoping!!!

It has suppressed my appetite to the point where I can go an entire day without eating (I'll forget to eat!). I counteract this affect by drinking protein shakes throughout the day (150-250g of whey protein) and a few small carb loaded snacks (whole wheats & lentils). Overall, its done wonders for my health, I no longer crave the crappy junk food I'd obeset on.

i had no appetite for a 2 or 3 weeks, i lost a couple pounds (loved that) but my appetites back to normal now

is it more common to gain weight or lose weight on celexa for most patients?

I have gained about 40 lbs. Yuck!

I lost almost 25lbs! I started the first of this year, felt less anxious immediately but I also began to lose my appetite pretty much also right away. I've always had a hearty appetite, but even my favorite go-to foods suddenly just weren't that interesting. I lost 20 pounds in one month on Celexa. Here's the question...how much was due to Celexa, and how much was due to going through a painful divorce? It definitely helped with the negative thoughts, but totally took away my appetite. Things seem to stabilize weight wise after the first month, and the weight loss was a bonus. Yawning a definite side effect.

I have lost 45 pounds and 3 dress sizes...its like my body it fighting to be it normal weight. Anxiety totally controlled now and I am on a low dose.
