Chris wrote: I am on my first day of Citalopram 20mg and I am finding it difficult to eat. I feel dizzy and sick which might be the lack of food. I feel happier tho. I have to force myself to eat. All I've been able to stomach today is cereal and its now 5.30 in the afternoon. I am struggling to sleep and I am jittery. I am hoping this will get better. My anxiety is less powerful and controlling and I find I am now more excitable than anxious. I have headaches too, again that could be lack of fluids and food. It takes at least 2 weeks to work and sometimes 4 weeks for some people, so if you're feeling better on the first day it's probably just a placebo effect.

T in Texas wrote: First my stats . I feel this will help others in my situation . 38 years old 5'3" 210 lbs.(use to be LOTS less , lol ) I'm a mother of 5 girls . Of which the last pregnancy was unexpected and the worst . C-Section and my weight went up to 190 lbs.! And just couldn't lose it . That was 9 years ago come next month . So with the weight gain , moods swings and now for the past year horrible periods with heavy bleeding and LOTS of clots ! So much so . I couldn't do any kind of activity for the fear of an accident . Sorry so open , but I feel this may help other women out there . I have not been to a doctor since my last child was born . As I am one who thought I was invincible . And plus couldn't afford the insurance :(. Now I have a doctor as of yesterday at a clininc here in Texas . I thought " a clinic isnot going to listen to me , the patient" . But this doctor did . I cried to the nurse , and again infront of the doctor and her student male doctor ...lol I felt like such a baby . But I wnted them to know everything that I have been going through . My moods swings , my periods , my lack of doing anything fun anymore . And the weight gain OMG ! So today I will start 20mg of the generic Celexa . I promise to keep posting so that you guys can see how this prescription affects me . I'm a little nervous . I'm not going to take it till after 8:00 a.m. don't want to drive in the car with my children for the fear of getting dizzy . I will post again with side affects the positive and the negative . Thanks so much for taking the time to post . Some of you have given me postive feed back about this drug . Talk to you later .:) My first doctors appointment was on Nov. 14th. 2011 a Monday . And today is Nov. 18th. a Friday . I went in to the local clinic to see a dietician . And she asked if I had wanted to check my weight ? I said yes , she asked what my weight was on Monday ? I said 210 lbs., Well ... today ... I am somehow 207 lbs.!!!! I've lost 3 lbs. in 4 days ! I don't know how I did this . Other than the fact that I was prescribed Celexa on Monday started it on Tues. 20 mg. and BAM ! Here today I am 3 lbs. lighter . I'll take it . I just hope it stays this way . I have lots of weight to lose . I'm thinking that with those of us who ate emotionally . It calms us down that we don't eat as much . And for those who couldn't eat because they were stressed , it has the opposite effect ? This is waht I am gathering after reading lots of posts ...

girl power wrote: I SO agree with you! Who are all these people who are LOSING weight? I have gained about forty pounds on citalopram. I have had more sugar cravings, cravings for chocolate that I rarely had. I felt better mentally, but physically never worse. Haven't been able to get the weight off in years. Just took the plunge and got off of that Med completely but not Wellbutrin. Have high hopes for weight loss back to where I was. Only off for two weeks. Feel a lot more energy which I used to have and missed. Will keep you all posted. Best to everyone as I know this life journey is quite a challenge. I know it's hard to believe ! I am one of those who has lost weight while on Celexa . I went in 4 days ago to my first appointment in 9 years . Was put on Celexa and here it is 4 days later . I went from 210 lbs. to 207 lbs. Three lb. weight loss in 4 days . And didn't change what I ate . Just didn't have the desire to eat as much . I'm an emotional eater ... I guess .

I take Armour Thyroid for hypothyroid (for years) and 20mg Celexa as of a couple weeks ago. I have lost only 2-3 lbs. due to loss of appetite. I have no idea what to expect long term. I'm wondering if the loss of appetite is a symptom that will fade. I hope not; it's keeping my obsessive eating thoughts down, too.

Yes, your body takes about a week to adjust to a certain dose, but you will feel the effects of the meds right away. The symptoms/ side effects go away in 1-3 weeks. I get a nasty headache if I don't take my daily dose close to the same time every day. I've been on it for roughly 2 weeks. I have NO appetite. I don't understand why people are gaining. I will say, too, the sex drive has been waning. Don't care for that little side effect.

Alisha wrote: <quoted text> Sunny today - Don't be scared to take Citalopram. I started about a month ago and it was the first time I ever had anything for depression/anxiety. My first week on the medicine was rough, I'll be honest. I got dry-mouth HORRIBLY the first day and for the first few days, I had this horrible tendancy to want to bear down on my teeth and grind them (while awake). It was totally weird. I called the nurse at my doctor's office, who then advised me to bring it down to 10mg (I started at 20mg and so I was taking half a pill before bed). It helped considerably and it was still a slight tendancy but it went away after about 10 days. At that point I began the 20mg again and I felt fine. Since then, I've noticed that my moodiness and stress has decreased dramatically. I feel SO much better. I have lost a bit of my appetite and I think the cravings of being worked up were why I snacked so much before. I have lost 3-4 pounds and just need to watch the weight loss because I'm really petite (5'0" and 104lbs right now). It's nice to lose a little bit but definitely don't want to lose much. I wouldn't be too worried about weight gain, as the opposite effected me. Anyways- I was freaked out the first week I took the meds. I didn't feel 'quite right,' and something just felt strange. It does go away and you really start to feel better. I don't feel like it's altered my personality or it's a "fake happy" - I feel like it's genuinely helped me combat my moodiness. Good luck with it! Thanks! I just started it a few days ago and feel the same way you said you did. Dry mouth, zoned out, no appetite or energy and cant sleep (tired but just cant relax enough to sleep). My dr warned when prescribing it to stick with it for about 10 days and I will feel better. Thanks for your post!

Hello all! I just got prescribed 20 mg citalopram and I have a question for you all. I'm on Weight Watchers and I see everyone talking about weight gain/loss. I know that every body is different, but has anybody on here taken citalopram while on the WW program?

When I was on Celexa 40 mg, I was in the best shape of my life. It's the only antidepressant that doesn't kill my motivation to exercise and I still "care" about things, I just don't excessively worry about things. I changed to Effexor, why I don't know, and I packed on 30 lbs. I've always weighed 120, so know I'm more depressed due to weight. I'm going back to Celexa. It worked for me.
