This drug, known in the US as Campath, or alemtuzumab as it is referred to here has been known for several years to slow down and even somewhat reverse MS but it is no "silver bullet."
It has very serious side effects including deady idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura (ITP) for which there is no real cure but prayers. It is reserved for use when the traditional interferons fail. It IS NOT a replacem,ent nor should it be the first line of treatment. Neurologists trained on MS already know about it. It'sd been around a while. There are other anti-lymphocytic drugs like it that work, too. Sometimes a little knowledge is a dangerous thing. |

How do we go about finding out if a person can take this drug.
