May I make a suggestion? Instead of using drugs, how about this: Lose the weight! www.5perweek.com It's not as hard as you think.;

It would have been helpful to give the brand name of the drug since some people only know a drug by that name.
Also, to Phil M. All diabetics aren't overweight. Even for the ones who are, losing weight may or may not make a difference depending on how far the diabetes has progressed.
Don't be so quick to judge. I'll bet you eat or do some things that aren't healthy either, but that your health hasn't YET been affected.

And just so you know, I had adult-onset hyperglycemia, but since I lost 50 pounds and QUIT taking the meds (glyburide, metformin, etc.), I feel fine and don't need to bother with testing my glucose levels daily anymore because I've learned how to eat properly for my metabolism. A lot more people really could benefit from doing the same thing.

I have Type II Diabetes, and was once prescribed Rosiglitazone Maleate (Avandia) by one doctor, but another doctor took me off the drug specifically due to the risks outlined in the Cleveland Clinic study. I bless the second doctors opinion, and Thank GOD.

The alternate to this is to take Metformin which I cannot take due to kidney problems related to the Diabetes, so the only real choice is to exercise, lose weight and eat less carbs and take my insulin injections which I have been doing. It is tough to do, but i do want to live a long happy life with as few drugs as possible.

That is it. Any further comments ???

The full study has not yet been published, and the authors themselves admit serious limitations to the study. The editorial in the upcoming NEJM issue admits the findings could be due to chance, yet the editors suggest regulatory action by the FDA? This is reminiscent of the silicone breast implant debacle. How about doing a proper study that is not so impaired by the author's rush to publish, so that it actually has conclusions we can rely on?

diabetes is hereditary, not necessarily about being overweight. your body becomes glucose resistant causing blood glucose to rise. that leads to other diabetes related problems. there are plenty of slim diabetic people.

The FDA said We can't Import drugs from Canada because they might be dangerous , In a sense they were right, It would have overwhelmed the IDIOTS ,They can't even keep our domestic drugs safe, The Pharmicuticals give them enough $$$, They will approve anything !

To the know-it-alls: Diabetes is an incredibly complex disease, which comes in two basic forms--Type 1, which used to be called juvenile or insulin dependent diabetes, and Type 2, which used to be called adult onset or non-insulin dependent diabetes. Type 1 generally (most of the time) occurs to people under the age of 30, especially to kids, while Type 2 mostly happens to those over the age of 30, although in the past few years, kids have even started getting it. So, what's the main difference? Simply put, that Type 1 is genetic, meaning you're born with it and at some point in time in the early part of your life, you will get it. It has nothing whatsoever to do with lifestyle. In fact, the large majority of Type 1s are underweight, especially after contracting the disease. As for Type 2, it is primarily due to lifestyle, but not always. For instance, my mother, who was five feet tall, never weighed more than 95 pounds her entire life. Not only was she not overweight, she was considered too thin by certain people. And she was that way until the day she died--of diabetic complications. And, just for the record, although I'm Type 1, I've never weighed more than 125 as an adult, and I'm 5'7".

I have had diabetes for 15 years. Six years ago, I started taking Avandia, five years ago I had a heart attack and had to have a triple bypass. My doctor could not beleive when it happened to me. No signs or symptoms. So I don't know what to beleive. I am still taking Avandia, because none of the Dr.'s even thought it might be my problem. I am not over weight, it runs in my family.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
