Hi Everyone,

I'm new to this forum and to the diabetes community in general. I just recently lost a loved one to a heart attack. He was taking Avandia for Type 2 Diabetes.

Last November, my uncle suffered a fatal heart attack while on Avandia. He'd had a physical in October and the results showed no issues with his heart. I have started a news and community website to share information and stories about Avandia.

The Avandia Heart Risk Forum is a place for those interested in or affected by this medication to come together and, if the drug is shown definitively to be dangerous, take action against the FDA and drug companies for their lack of responsiblity.

This is a new site and I really hope that you'll all come visit the forum. Just so you don't think this is an advertisement: I started this site at the request of my cousin and I am not benefitting from it financially. I really just want to bring people together for support and education.

Thanks,
Sara L Christensen

My husband suffered a heart attack 13 days after starting avandamet(avandia and metformin), I should have noticed the changes in him the first week...I feel betrayed by the drug manufacturer, they seem to think if you have a few fatalities it's ok, there in it to make money....they make me sick!

i have been advised by my doctor to continue taking my 5 mg dose per day. The benefits of it out weigh the possible side effects at this time. I am a 50 year old man diagnosed with type 2 diabetes 2 years ago. I have been taking avandia for 4 months now. The drug has made my meter readings much lower in the morning. So i quess i will continue taking this med till i either have a heart attack or i hear more information about the side effects.

My father died June 15th after taking Avandia for 50 days. He too had just had a physical and was fine, had been taking another diabetes med for over 20 years and doing well with it. His HMO switched him to Avandia and after adverse reactions switched him back. He died a short time afterwards. How can I get to your support website? This is all so new to me and my Dad's death was such a shock we still can't believe it. Any info is welcome. Thank you.

With all the recent press, I read the original article. It was poorly done and funded by several drug companies making other diabetes drugs. People with diabetes are at a high risk for heart attacks regardless of treatment. It looks to me like avandia is as safe or dangerous as other diabetes drugs and we are all being suckered into using other meds. The lawyers and competator drug companies are preying on those of us who have been affected by heart disease to fuel a statement that at its core is not supported. I challange everybody who feels inclined to blame this drug to look at the study, see how they got their info and see who supported the author.

i have been hearing a lot about the adverse reactions to taking avandia, but, in my case, i feel better and have less side effects than when i took metformin and glyberide......it seems to work for me....but, am i just fooling myself.....i have asked the doc about this concern and she told me that i was not at risk because i was not on any other meds that would complicate the risk.....i dont really have a weight problem, i have had three years now that my eyes have not changed regarding this disease....but, i have to tell you that i am still concerned......my friends doc told him that i would have heart problems within the next two years......where does that leave me??????????

I hope you all have gotten a free legal consultation regarding your loved ones Avandia use. You can go to this site and see if you can get involved in a lawsuit or a class action suit.

Two years ago, my husband died from a heart attack while on vacation. He was 52 and on Avandia. He had been on Avandia or Avandament for several years. He also had a complete work-up and all results showed no heart problems. He spent two days in the hospital complaining of chest pains. The entire time that he was in the hospital, he was not given Avandia. I hope it's banned in all countries. Glaxo was fully aware of all problems with this drug.

Daily Horoscope for December 29

Scorpio

Your thoughts turn to the past today, putting you in a nostalgic mood. You're awash with sentimental tears as you dwell on days gone by or gaze at photos of people you'll never see again. However, try not to let this mood of reminiscence turn into a tendency to feel sorry for yourself and therefore to demand special treatment from others.
