I'm about to start taking Ativan and my doctor told me that I can no longer drink alcohol because of the potentially dangerous side effects. Does this mean I can never ever have any alcohol or does it mean that I should not become intoxicated. I'm used to having a couple glasses of wine with dinner 1 or 2 nights a week. Do I need to stop this behavior while on the medication?

If you like booze, a deadlier drug than Ativan, as far as I'm concerned, then you are creating an anxiety problem for which Ativan might be required (you must be honest with your doctor). However, most deceptive addicts, like me, will continue to drink, even on the Ativan 'and', use the Ativan primarily to get over the acute anxiety of an alcoholic hangover. Welcome to hell. -- Peter

cmon guys this is s bunch of bs. Having liven a pretty long life in addiction, i can tell you what you need to know if your wondering about taking atavin. yes, it is true. you CAN take Ativan with alcohol and you get a bit more of a buzz (ativan is a benzodiazipine like xanax klonopin valuim restori) all of these benzos can be taken with alcohol. but you have to be carefull because my dad who works at a mourge said day after day they have people come in and they've died due to a benzo/alcohol coctail. However, it is very funn to experiment with benzo's and alcohol. it gives you that "holy shit im so fucked up" stage. but its fun. also, it is very important that small girls take the lowest doses and drink very little. its def fun, but you have to be very carefull

I've been taking lorazepam in a dose of 1gram max 1.5 as needed (couple times a week) for stress and anxiety relief. only reason I'm on this site is because I want to warn people what i discovered the hard way... don't mix it with alcohol. I normally hold a lot 12 drinks easy and keep it together more or less but when mixing, I am a mess. Can hardly stand straight, experiece memory loss, won't recognize people i know, get aggressive or angry. It's awful, and a sure way too upset or even lose friends... don't mix!

It doesn't matter if you take ativan in the morning and drink in the evening, the shelf life of Ativan is short but it does stay in your system for the long run!

i have been on many benzos for years (alprazolam, clonazepam, diazepam, and lorazepam which is ativan) i am currently on ativan and with your small dose a couple of glasses of wine is fine. benzos act on the brain in a very similar way to alcohol so alcohol does increse the potency of benzos and vice versa. but with a small dose your fine.

What are the dangers of someone taking Lorazepam 1,0 mg once (or up to 4 as prescribed) per day in combination with Remeron 30mg one per evening and a heavy daily alcohol intake ?

Some research shows that Ativan can double to triple the strength of a drink depending on a persons size and the amount of Ativan in their system. For example: One beer could equal 2 beers One glass of wine could equal 2.5 glasses One shot of hard liqour could equal 3 shots Luckily Ativan lasts about 8 hours...! Dont take at the same time or you could make a fool of yourself!

I could not agree more !!!!! I just had the same experience and really embarrassed myself a few times. Did not even remember what I did or said. Made me very aggressive, shortened my fuse, loud, rude and prone to violence. You lose all fear and can end up killing someone including yourself. Scared the crap out of me when I started reading about this toxic coctail online. Lost a couple of old and new friends. Actually made me finally decide to quit drinking completely after 35 years abusing alcohol. Just turned 50 and want to remember the rest of my life !!!!!! DONT DO IT

I take Antivan in 1mg. for an ear problem called menieres, Antivan helps the nerves to relax so the labrynth wont create the dizziness, but I like to drink too all though I have never mixed them, but lets say I take the pill in the morning and at night I go to the happy hour and drink a daiquiri I don't see the harm right? it's no like I'm going to drink a bottle of Jonnie walker...I hope I'll be okay (It is my friends BDAY and I told her I'll go regardless)LOL

Thanks for that input James, someone close to me has become unemployed for the second time in four years and his doctor prescribed Ativan and Remerol, he has always been quite a heavy drinker and i`ve seen an increase in his alcohol intake while on these meds. hence my worry. Appreciate your info.

Have you ever killed someone in a blackout and woke up in jail the next morning not remembering a thing? Well, that is a reality when you start mixing stuff. Or hey, even when you drink too much for some people. Call Hazelden for treatment 800-257-7800

This is my first post on this site and I can say that after reading some of the posts & responses I probably should have been on here sooner. So here it goes...At the moment I'm drinking close to a bottle of wine a night...sometimes more(proabably over a 4 hour span) then prior to bed I take 3mg of lunesta and 1 mg of Ativan for which I would call is insomnia. This has gone now for well over a year. Couldn't sleep without my cocktail of wine and meds. Sounds sad but I'm honestly a succesful business man that supports my wife and kids quite well. With that said, I know what I'm doing is wrong and this habit will have long terms affects along with the fact that I will most likely become tolents to the amounts of meds I'm taking which could lead to higher doeses. As of two week I started the process (on my own) of trying to wean off all the drugs and alchohol. Should I focus on tappering the alchohol first and then move to ativan? I know everyoe's going to say go see your doctor...but I at least want to try to do this on my own with having to admit I need help. Thanks

You definitely won't be able to do this on ur own. Unfortunately, of course you can try but Ativan is a highly addictive drug and so is alcohol. You started doing this because of ur insomnia? Do you find that u have an anxiety from doing this everynight? I drink close to a bottle of wine everynight and was just prescribed Ativan the other day. Since I like the taste of alcohol I just crave a drink which may make me more anxious. Anyways ~ u shud definitely go and see a doctor before things get out of hand and u may end up having liver problems, severe anxiety, etc. I'm here if u need to talk! jmack2525 wrote: This is my first post on this site and I can say that after reading some of the posts & responses I probably should have been on here sooner.
