My husband is on this drug to try to help with his infertility.
Has anyone had any experience with this treatment, or heard of it being used in this way with positive results?
I'd appreciate any and all feedback. Thanks.

Greetings Nicole. I am currently on Arimidex and it is working out for me. It may take between 2 to 3 months before your husband may start seeing significant results. I'm assuming that Arimidex was prescribed for your husband after a hormone test was done on him. Also, when they do the next semen analysis, make sure they test both semen and morphology. If there is a male infertility specialist in your area, this will be the person your husband will want to see. There are a lot of urologist out there claiming they understand this aspect, but are not very knowledgeable about treatment. Hope this helps!

My husband had azoospermia ... ZERO sperm count. Arimidex has worked for him as well. He was on a "strong" dose it seemed 1 mg every day ... took two months for him as well. It's worth a try ... and your insurance will most likely cover it since it comes up as a cancer drug.

My husband has low sperm count (1.8 mill), poor morphology (broken necks) and low motility. With Initial tests (blood, genetic & ultrasound) doctor has ruled out varicocelle, no genetic defects like missing Y chromosome. Blood test showed low testosterone levels (based on FSH). He has recommended Armidex, and a test on progress to see after 2 months. I see some of you have experience with this drug. Any updates after Feb 6th (last post). It will give me a lot of confidence while we go through this.

It worked for us. We went from low counts of poor quality to not too bad counts and have a beautiful daughter now. Thinking of trying again. Good luck!

Lil thats great. Can you provide any reference point of what was the improvement? I understand it could differ from a case to case basis but what shd I expect my count to be after 4 months.(i had 1.8 mil with 5% active motility 2 mths ago). Also, did you have to go with ICSI or IUI?

I was the original poster. My husband DID try the drug and while it worked quite well for his counts, the morphology was still very bad. So we are moving onto adoption, as we were told our only option was IVF with ICSI, and we cannot afford to take that chance.

I am Klinefelters male azospermic who has tried TESE once, with successful outcome (but which failed to result in a pregnancy for other reasons) and planning to try again in mid October. I have been on Armidex since April, initially 1mg per day, with little progress on the T/E ratio. My doctor added Clomid to the mix for a short period, and stopped it as soon as that worsened the bloods. I am now on 1mg every other day, T/E ratio is going in the right direction, and things looks promising for an October TESE.
BUT the side effects have been significant and hard to live with. Almost from the very start I had hot flashes, as frequently as 10 an hour, and could them all night meaning that for weeks my sleep was poor. Recently the hot flashes have stopped and have given way to tachycardia and angina-like chest pressures, which once again stop me from sleeping. I also bouts of trapped gas, periods of a ravenous hunger and times where I have no energy.
I've scoured the web for information about side effects in men, but found only stuff relating to steroid use in body builders. Does anyone have any experience of the kind of side effects I've had?

My husband is starting Armidex today. The main cause of his infertility problems is low testosterone. He has been taking Clomid for approximately 3 months. His testosterone has incresed from 175 to 372. His sperm count has not increased (12 mil), but his motility and morphology have increased (8% to 33%). We are going to try our first IUI in a couple weeks. Keep me posted and I'll do the same. Good Luck!

I am a older man.Fifty plus.Started on arimidex 1MG twice a week due to a high estrogen count.I am also on testosterone 50 mg twice a day due to age related concerns. After four weeks on arimidex the good times are back. The testosterone worked ok buy itself, but when the doctor added arimidex, due to high estrogen count, doors that I thought were closed shut, are now wide open. Give this drug a chance and good luck to all.

Hi Jen & Jorge
I was just wondering how long do you take the pill for? My husband was prescribed 1mg, and was told to take it for a month, I think its a bit much. Or is the normal protocal? Thanks

have been trying to conceive for 3 yrs now, im 26 and my fiance is 38. After tests it showed he has very low sperm count, first time was 300,000 second time was 2mil. was put on arimidex 1mg daily, no side effects, no change in behavior, is on it to raise sperm count, he has low mobility, and no normal looking sperm(...july 19th will be 3months on this pill, we were told to test sperm after 3 months and not earlier and that at 6 months is the best you would get)...both of our insurance does not cover anything above iui, ivf is not an option, too expensive and emotionally cant wait that long to save. will keep everyone posted. i am trying to stay positive for him,
