If you haven't done so, add the Campral for the urges. It does the trick. 90 days today!

I am a very well educated medical professional who, unfortunately, let alcohol control me. Maybe you think that red flush on your face is no big deal, but that's the beginning of either circulatory collapse, or perhaps anaphylaxis. Either way, you'd need a ventilator or a grave. I worked trauma, and I've watched a family say good-bye to their 27 year old daughter because she did what you are doing. So keep playing russian roulette, or better yet save the money you use on your prescription and buy a pint on those of us that WANT help. People need to know how to counteract an accidentaly overdose with anatabuse and alcohol on their own so that they do not fill up emergency room with a ill advised comsuption and thus increasing medical costs for everyone. To be believe that someone will quit alcohol without it being forced with the assumption that it would be fatal is draconian, medival and simular to a castiy belt to prevent pregnancy. You do not need the threat of dying and then assume it will come without some common sense background work on your part....... on how to not die

This medication is the cure for us all. I respect Antibuse. One only has to ingest a sip of alcohol after taking a tablet of Antibuse (250mg), even weeks prior, to become totally ill for days.

Hi everyone,
I"m inspired by many of you and feel complelled to add some new thoughts. I've been on Antabuse for a few weeks and it's been a really good experience. Every time I think I can get sober on my own, I remember all the times the Antabuse kept me from taking a drink. And I'm grateful for that. When I feel week and tempted to drink in the afternoons, its the antabuse that reminds me that I wanted to be a different person when I woke up that morning.
I've also gone to AA several times over the past few years and I've never been able to get over the 'higher power' issue. I think many of us have trouble understanding the contradictions of a 'god' who lets horrible things happen in the world (wars, illness, poverty, etc...) but who'se supposed to care enough about me to help me get sober. I just don't believe it. I know others feel differently - I'm sorry if I offended anyone.
At any rate, the very sad thing for me is that I need to stop taking the antabuse because of some non-alcohol related side effects (pretty bad skin rashes).
To those of you just starting with the drug - good luck. You have to be in a place to really want to stop drinking. It's a good friend in that regard - keeping you from making bad judgements in your weakest moment.
Good luck everyone.

I've been taking antabuse off and on for a few months. I normally give myself the 2 weeks before i try to drink on it. I do the AA as well as the antabuse because the AA program is less about not drinking as it is about getting alife that is where you always wanted it and drinking would just screw it up. As for the "higher Power" thing, it doesn't have to be a "god" thing as much as it is the notion that there are things that are bigger than you. Vodka is bigger than me so I know that ther are definitely other things bigger than me. Good luck to anyone who is trying ot get sober. It's not easy but it's worth it.

I started Antabuse on Monday the 11th. I'm regretting today. I want to drink very badly and I've been popping vitamin C all day. This is going to be a very long weekend without booze. Yes it is easier to take it in the morning, and regret taking it at night. I've been in and out of sobriety for almost 2 years now. Sick of it.

Hi all, I’m new here (only found this site today). I have been sober for 6 weeks without Antabuse (will power alone lol) On Monday (all going well) I will be starting a antabuse treatment program. Some may wonder why if I have managed 6 weeks (I have also managed a year in the past but with a few slips in between) I am hoping Antabuse will give me the help I need to keep me strong when im feeling at my lowest. It comes and goes as it can for all of us. My problem is when it comes I get tunnel vision and nothings gonna stop me from getting my alcohol with dire consequences for myself and my family (3 children and partner). My hope is when these times come (and given the fact I truly want to stop drinking) then maybe Antabuse could be the crutch I need when at my lowest.(I know what to expect if drinking with Antabuse). I have attempted many different things to keep sober with different time lines and different serious consequences for myself and family. QUESTION!! One of my major concerns is as follows: What is the story with avoiding alcohol in foods? Dose it have to be avoided completely at every level?(I’m not talking about a glass of wine at dinner I mean things like vinegar; it’s even in bloody Oxtail soup). I understand these are tiny amounts but do they have to be avoided? Have any of you guys/gals watched what foods you eat due to alcohol being inside or not?. Any information and accounts you can give me will be appreciated. Thanks for listening to me waffle on.

Hi all Have been on atabuse now for one week and apart from being really tired i feel i have kept myself and my family safe from the dreaded drink. If i have any cravings i am safe in the knowledge that if i drink there will be grave consiquences.(be very ill) I have spoken to my counciler who has explained to me that provided i do not abuse this tablet there is no reason why i cannot continue to take it forever. This really pleases me some may think its cheating but i am very grateful i have had the choice of drinking while on this tablet taken away from me. Would be grate to here your opinions and to here how everyone else on this site is doing.

I've been on Antabuse for 3 weeks now. Two weeks ago I drank on it. I had 2/3 quart of beer. Face started getting red, breathing more labored and eyes all glossy. I thought, ok if this is all it is, I'm going to have some drinks. After my third drink it was a nightmare. If anyone has thoughts of drinking on antabuse, please think again. It's not worth it. I was sick for 4-5 hours. The next morning I felt fine, but very remorseful. The last 2 weeks have been awesome without the booze. I crave it all the time, but it does get better. Been down this road several times. Communication with sober friends and meetings helps me. I feel like I'm a part of something and I'm not alone.

I started taking antabuse 2 weeks ago and haven't had a drink since. Let me tell you what my life was like before taking it. To spare your eyes, I'll bullet point my behaviors. -Wine bottles too hard to hide, started drinking pints and half pints. -Used 9 or 10 different liquor stores to "hide" my problem. -Stayed home from work often to drink all day. -Often drove drunk, even with my kids. -Worried about my alcohol breath at work since I usually drank late at night. -could polish off a pint in less than 1/2 hour straight from the bottle. -Always blacked out. Always. -Lived in fear of what I did, said, or who I drunk dialed on the phone. -Could not function normally, rarely cooked, cleaned, or did anything to keep my house, husband, & kids taken care of. -Spent way too much $$ on things I forgot I purchased. -Had a secret booze fund bank account to hide from husband. -Let my relationships go. -Infrequent physical relationship with my husband since I was afraid he could smell the booze on me. Since I was so afraid of being caught (for the hundreth time) my drinking commenced when evereyone was in bed. I'd gulp the stuff down so fast and couldn't even enjoy my high since I'd pass out immediately and wake up everyday with a scorching hangover, a bad mood, and wondering if others could smell it on me. Now that I am taking this pill, it's given me the strength to say no. If I feel like drinking I can't since this stays in your system for weeks. My work is better, relationships are better, and have started to hope things will be allright. I am not cloudy. I am engaged in my relationships and have started re-connecting with those I dropped. Whoever reads this and is afraid to take it, give it a try. My big fear was not being able to use personal items such as shampoo, deodorant, etc. So far, everything has been OK so swallow your pride and just do it. Know what else is gone? The shame of being found out. Please, give it a go.
