I only have one prescription and not a lot of money so I only take 1 pill and then do not drink for 10 days at a time. I have not tried to drink on Antabuse because I have read too many horror stories which is why I take it when I don't want to drink. I wish that I could just go every other day and drink but can not which is why Antabuse has worked for me.

Jon I am not sure what you mean by "after 2 days (today) and 14 days of drink" means. Do you mean after not drinking for 14 days you then drank on Antabuse?

My husband, a very bad alcoholic, took antabuse. Its a miracle drug. He's been sober for almost 2 yrs now. Go for it!!!

Has anyone had any experience, taking antabuse this way

If you know that you cannot stop drinking for days but know that your life would be better if you did, and you really want to be a happier person then Antabuse can be a great tool. Especially for me, sometimes I don't want to drink but other times I really enjoy it. Antabuse gives me the choice to no drink for 10 days just because I took one pill.

I started taking Antabuse 32 days ago and for me with the exception of some stressful days when I would always drink I havent wanted to drink and haven't. Much easier than I thought. I truly have my life back.

It is in your system immediately after you take one pill therefore you should not drink or will become very ill. Note that you should wait at least 12 hours after drinking to start taking Antabuse.

From what I have read it can stay in your system for up to 14 days. I have found that I can drink after 10 days and have had no side effects. Everyone is different but I think the average person would want to wait at least 10 days after taking even one pill before drinking.

I hope this answers your question Ande, if not please tell me and I will attempt to answer other questions you may have.

I only take antabuse on days which I would normally drink or occasions where alcohol is everywhere and tempting... I find it easier to grab one and take it before I can have second thoughts otherwise, I will rationalise my way out of taking it and end up drinking, thinking that this time I will be ok. This works for me and is so much cheaper than taking one a day. I wouldn't even consider drinking for a week or two after taking one, there are so many scary stories about it!

I ordered 1 months supply of 500mg antabuse online, when it arrived it came in a jiffy bag in sealed packs of four and called ALCOLEEV, no other packaging or notes of ingredients or how to take it etc from a company called medixi.com I have been taking it for 7 days now with no side effects other than tiredness. I haven't had a drink in this time but tried a skin test by putting a dab of brandy on my my wrist - no reaction whatsoever! Has anyone else used these, are they a bonafida tablet or am I taking a placebo?

I take only one pill, the first time I took 2 pills in two days and I have to wait 10 days to be sure it is out of my system.

Good luck Sandie - I've been off the alcohol and on antabuse for 14 days now and feel great - no bad reactions, no withdrawal from alcohol symptoms just feel tired but even that's wearing off now - best wishes for your new future!

Where do you find a doc that WILL prescribe Antabuse?

I have an appt to see my Family Doc in a few days and on my list of things to talk about is requesting an antabuse prescrip.
It's a rather daunting task, as I've known him for years, and there's a sense of shame and embarrassment.
I'm afraid he will deny the prescrip and instead recommend AA or counseling. I do NOT want to do those things.
I drink 12-15 beers per day on weekends and 4-8 beers on weekdays.
My first waking thought on weekends is about beer. I start drinking as soon as I wake up. I would love to just eliminate the possibility of having a drink and move on with my days.
How can I present my case to better my odds that he give me the prescription without AA/Counseling?

Can't you just buy antabuse on the internet, I did and have been free of alcohol for nearly two months and only my husband knows that I take it, I just told everyone else that I have gastric ulcers and cannot drink alcohol for the time being. Good luck.

I just done an 'antabuse online france' google search then verified that they were a bona fida company. You can do the same for your country. They were reasonably priced without the embarrassment of going to your Doctor.

Well I have an update
GOOD NEWS:my DR would prescribe it and has done so in the past, without recommending AA or other therapy
BAD NEWS:antabuse has been discontinued in Canada due to lack of demand and is only available from an on-demand manufacturer.

I am in the process of having my Dr checking to see if this is feasible and how much it would cost.
Too bad. You can get a patch to quit smoking; get a pill to help you lose weight; but can't get anything to help you quit drinking!

I think the demand was low because the general poplulation is not even aware that antabuse exists. I bet it would sell like hotcakes at an AA meeting.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Gemini

It's a red letter day for relationships under the Lunar Eclipse in your house of significant others, because you're facing some important and far-reaching changes to some of them. The pressure has been building since the Gemini Solar Eclipse on May 20. f you've known for some time that things aren't working out, you're about to reach a crisis point as becomes obvious that the present situation can't continue much longer. The coming New Moon in Gemini on June 19 will see progress of one kind or another, though this unusual eclipse cycle will have a far-reaching effect. You may have to be cruel to be kind, or more forceful than you would like, in order to get your point across, but do you really have any viable alternative?
