THANK YOU THANK YOU for your posts.. ALL OF YOU! Last year June 2010 I was prescribed Amoxycillin for strep throat (the doctor guessed the diagnosis). I began experiencing hypertension (high blood pressure) and SEVERE anxiety. I went back a few weeks later to my doctor and told her my symptoms. She opened her med book and anxiety wasn't listed as a symptom so she dismissed it but said I was allergic. Today, January 1, 2012 I am not the same person. I still have the anxiety just not as severe as it was and am being treated for high blood pressure which I never had before. The night terrors are the worst. Please continue to share your stories and again thank you for helping me feel like I have not lost my mind.

I am taking Amoxicillin for diverticulitis and feel very lethargic. In have been on it for 5 days and keep waking up in the middle of the night. I sleep 2 hrs. at night and can't fall asleep again. My stomach is also upset and I have no appetite. I also am on Metronidazole, so maybe that is giving me side effects too. Has anyone experienced this too!

I also after having a tooth removed was put on 500 mg. of amoxicillin. I had been talking to my wife that I was not feeling right that something was wrong and we both feel like it is the amoxicillin. It was good to read I wasn't alone in this.

Ever since I took it, I have been experiencing extreme confusion. When I think about things like how does anything exist, and what am I, I get extremely paranoid and have a ton of anxiety. Has this happened to anyone else? How long should this last?

I was very anxious too. There are other posts on this board about bizarre thinking patterns. I also had really strange nighmares, when I could sleep. I'd tell your doctor. I'm sure s/he will have you stop taking it. Depending on how long you've been taking it, it may take a while to leave your system....

Unfortunately I took the full dosage of amoxicillan, 10 days worth, before realizing that my confusion, anxiety, insomnia, derealization, etc. were from the antibiotic and not the dental procedure. I have been off the meds for 6 weeks now and still have the symptoms, particularly major confusion and paranoid thoughts. I see many posts with similar experiences, however, only a few that mention how long the road to recovery was. How far away is the light at the end of the tunnel? weeks? months? Please share

I have been off the meds for a year and still experience anxiety. It makes everything a little harder to focus on. AmoxicillinSucks wrote: <quoted text> Your symptoms sound a lot like mine. I took amoxicillin about 3 weeks ago and it has been absolutely miserable. I've had extremely disturbing thoughts, feel out of it, panicked, confused like I don't even know who I am. It began with a very severe panic attack, at least I think that's what it was. I felt extremely angry and didn't know why. I've been to the hospital, psychiatrist, psychologist, anxiety classes, ER. Whenever I brought up the amoxicillin they acted like I was being ridiculous. Did your symptoms go away or did you (or anyone here) find anything that helped? How are you feeling now?

How do you experience your anxiety? Is it in the form of panic attacks, or just anxiety in general? In other words, is the anxiety constant, or does it come and go? How severe is it? I'm asking because I have had two near-panic attacks within the last two weeks. Joel wrote: THANK YOU THANK YOU for your posts.. ALL OF YOU! I'm asking because I have had two near-panic attacks within the last two weeks. <quoted text> My attacks are both anxiety and panic attacks. The anxiety attacks are not too severe as they were last year. To help with the anxiety attacks I realized the fear is in my mind and I have underlying anxiety but I believe the meds brought it out full force because I never have had anxiety this bad before.. 6 months or so after figuring that out, I'm 80% better. The panic attacks occur at night when I'm sleeping. I have them for awhile and then they go away for a few months. The anxiety attacks occur constantly especially if I haven't slept well. So it comes and goes which makes life a little harder LOL.. Hope I helped!!

Please consider that these 'side effects' may be an allergy to a medication you're taking. Try Bioenergetic Intolerance Elimination, it is an alternative allergy treatment that has helped me with my antibiotic allergies.

I was prescribed 2000 mg/day of amoxicillin about 5 days ago. Since then i have not slept for more than 2 hours a night. I'll go to the gym for 2 hours a day and be extremely exhausted but i am unable to fall asleep. I think it must be the lack of sleep which is causing me to hear voices. It's quite scary, especially when they seem to be coming from the attic. Has anyone had any physical symptoms? I sometimes feel like a cold hand suddenly grabs my leg when i try to fall asleep. That can't be normal. I'm getting really paranoid about people around me. I think I'm stop taking this stuff but i'm afraid that my sinus infection will get worse

I have amoxicillin I know this is wrong I got it from a friend since I don't have health insurance. I took it a month ago when I had a stomach virus. I felt horribly sick to my stomach after the first dose so I stoped. I thought maybe it was just cause the stomach virus I was so sick. So now a month later I have a sore throat and upper respitory sickness. I decided to try the amoxicillin again because I looked it up and its common for strep throat. I took one dose this am and another six hours later at work. I had to leave work I threw up all over my self on the way home. I have thrown up multiple times since then and my bowels are straight water. Last night and this am i had no stomach problems it has to be the amoxicillin. I feel like I am going to die.

I was given Amoxicillin after a root canal , 3x500mg a day, for 10 days
I did the whole course, and 2 days after i finished i started having weird side effects:
while i know some of the problems were there before, they never were this bad:
-Acid reflux/stomach pain: it feels like my esophagus and stomach are coated with acid. it's been like this since 2 days after i stopped.
-weird stools, alternating from diarrhea to very hard, light /pale colored.
-pains in my upper right abdomen, chest, back, everywhere!
-dizziness, confusion at times.
all of this has been going on for the last week....the gastroenterologist gave me Florastor but it did nothing yet. I have been trying to eat very light and simple, hoping it'll get better.
as i said, i had some of these issues before (heart burn and diarrhea) but NOT to this extent...this is hell.
While i am relieved to find people who went through the same problems, i would like to know if there is a solution or anything that i can do to get better.
thanks in advance
