I took amoxicillin 500mg for about 10 days. I started breaking out after 7 days thinking I was allergic to peanuts, well almost 3 weeks later and I break out into hives every single day. Last night my feet were swollen up so bad I thought my big toe was going to burst open. I am going to the doctor today, I can't take it anymore, the hives are everywhere!!!

Omg I'm so glad I stumbled on this site. I too have taken amoxicillin. The dentist prescribed it to me after he did a root canal on me. And that was last year during the holidays. About a week after i started taking it i began to get this itchy red rash ONLY on my chest area...and it got so intense and itchy to the point i was miserable. Once i discovered that this was actually a side effect. I stopped taking it. I was shocked that it was a side effect, but happy to find out why i had gotten the rash. But I notice it goes away for a few months then reoccurs on & off. I've gotten the rash about 3 times now since last 2010 & its now late 2011. Please if anybody knows how to stop it for GOOD. Please let me know. Im so tired of this reoccuring. And i dont wanna keep depending on cortisone my whole life to help get rid of it.

Took amox for years...am 61...was also taking amox for tooth problems...took 2 as per prescription order...1/2 hour later got intense itch all over, felt tongue swelling up, was having problems breathing, raced to ER, 5 minutes away thru red lights, as soon as staff saw me, hooked me up to machines, epi...ect., just as I was about to pass out...also allergic to bee stings...the older I get the more I'm allergic too...tired of carrying around epipens...don't know why you're having reoccuring episodes...maybe see an allergist...I'm planning to...someday...good luck...

I was given Amoxicillin for a tooth infection. When I started getting hives I knew I was allergic. I have other medicinal allergies so I recognized the symptoms. However that was two weeks ago. I have one arm sleeved with tattoos and the hives are centralized on that arm. It is so annoying. It doesn't itch all the time, but MOST of the time it is there. I also have noticed an increase in mucus and sometimes my salivary seems very thick and causes difficulty swallowing. I also have a decreased ability sleeping. Benedryl isn't doing much, and I am using the oral tablets and topical gel. I am going to see if I can go in for a steroid shot tomorrow as well as a prescription. I hope this goes away soon. It is causing me to be incredibly irritable and stress does not help hives at all.

Be careful w/the steroids...they can cause a whole 'nother set of problems...besides being allergis to more things the older I get...bees, amox, eczema...read side effects of a steroid cream I'm using for eczema and psoriasis...sleeplessness and hallucinations...and hives...give me a break...

I had a mild but persistent cold and cough for a month so went to doc who gave me amoxicillin even after i told him i was allergic to it once. he seemed to think i'd have overgrown it as i had a pencillin shot after that incident. After two doses i started developing itchiness and mild rash. next day doc asked me to stop and take anti-histamines. Two doses of that and the rash spread and swelling began. So yesterday went to hospital where the doc asked me to take steroids and antihistamine. Took all doses yesterday. But last night was the worst ever - have not slept a wink and am suffering from a terrible rash all over the body, itchy feet, legs, palm, hand and vagina and swelling in lips, palm and feet mostly - pains to move them. Is this typical?
Just wanted to share my agony, sorry! Would any of you know -
Can the allergy get worse after starting steroids?
Can you be allergic to amoxicillin and not pencillin?
Can you be allergic to anti-histamines?!
Can you be allergic to steroids!!!
Thanks and all the best to all of you,
Greta
Yep the same i went to the GP with cough and cold and treated the same amoxcillin and steriods after 2 days developed a itchy red rash on kness upper legs and arm, burns hot when itchy now 8 days since taking amoxcillin and steriods still just as bad have tried 2 lots of anti histamies and now back on antibiotic and steriod tablets, also benavate to rub on (which i think agravates the rash) If you find anything let me know.
Wet towels wrapped around my legs at night help me sleep.

I was prescribed Amoxicillin for strep throat. I have never had an allergy to antibiotics before, and after a day or so on the antibiotic my strep throat was better. However, after about 5 days worth of the antibiotic I broke out in a severe rash (mostly on my torso, but a little on my arms and legs). When people say this rash is pure misery, they aren't joking! I would much rather have toughed out the strep throat. It has been a week and the rash is inflamed, itches like crazy, and looks horrible! Nothing really helps with the itching. I received a steroid shot and have been using antihistamines and calomine lotion, but nothing works. Im just hoping that it starts to get better soon! THIS SUCKS!!!

My daughter has been taking amoxycillin for a few days as she had acute tonsilitus, but now we have discovered she has a hive type rash because of the amoxycillin. We are taking her to the doctors tomorrow as she said she can cope with the itching but is there any cream we could put on her to stop her from itching as I don't want it to scar.

I've been taking different types of penicillin antibiotics all my life but had a terrible experience with Amoxil while in my early 30s that I will never forget.
I was down with diarrhoea from a food poisoning episode. Got admitted for 4 days and when discharged was given some take-away medication to be taken over a period of 10 days. I got home about noon and took my first dose at about 2pm. By midnight I started experiencing hot feelings in my palm and feet, ringing feelings in my brain and 2 hours later my scalp, inner ear, vagina, anus and everywhere was itching madly. My skin was cover with rashes; extremely bad on my limbs, palms and foot. Itching was so severe that I was using a small knife to scratch my body! I was screaming too because of the itching in hard to reach places like my inner ears, anus and throat. I thought I was having a nervous breakdown. I eventually passed out and woke up later at the A & E ward on IV.
Now in my late 40s, I avoid Amoxil but discover I'm okay with Ampicillin and Ampiclox. Even though since my bout with Amoxil I now have intermittent rashes, throat itching like 2ce in a month and go about with Tavegyl (prednisolone 5mg). I've done series of test that did not point to anything specific; I'm concluding it was the Amoxil and the treatment with steriods/anti-histamine that messed up my immune system. I was on antihistamine for a long time before I could get rid of the itching and rashes.
Please if you are not sure of your allergy to Amoxil keep antihistamine nearby before you start the dosage just in case and watch out for the general or unusual allergic symptoms!

I have aortic valve stenosis, and inthe past was told to inform my dentist before having any procedures done, because of the risk of infection. My dentist gave me 5 500 capsules to take before they would procede that morning, and I did take them, and 30 minutes later they started working on my teeth. Into the procedure, I noticed I was trembling alittle, but just blew it off. After I got home, I ate lunch, and within an hour I had severe vomitting and diareah (sp) and that lasted all day, which I spent in bed, shivereing, I was very weak, and sick for 2 days. The next time I went the dentist, I had contacted my dr., and he said to take them.....I had not heard back from my cardiologist yet so I took one before going but didn't want to. Had the same results as before, but it didn't last as long. Dentist finally said I didn't need to take them after my cardiologist finally replied to me and said that the AMA nolonger believes in people with aortic valve stenosis needing to take the drug before dental procedures. I have never been allergic to penicillin, but do not ever have the need to take them, so I guess I aquired an allergy to it.....?

I was on amoxil 500 three times a day for 1 week. My last dose with Tues pm, Wed AM the rash started. I suffered through the terribble rash for 5 days. Now I have terrible intense pain in my joints ( hands, knees, wrist)! The pain is intermittent, but severe, anti-inflammatorys don't help.

My question is: Anybody have any idea how long this joint pain will last? It has been 1 week since my reaction symptoms became noticeable.

I am currently taking amoxicillin because I had my wisdom teeth removed. My question is my boyfriend is highly allergic to amoxicillin will it effect him if we kiss or eat or drink after each other while I am still takin it? And if so how long after I finish my prescription should we wait till it will not harm him?

Took Amox. for 4 days for earache & broke out with huge welts and hives around waist, hips, crotch, chest, arms.(Btw, got a tetanus shot the same day.??? will query doc today.) Palms itching is agony not a sign money is on your way! Doc took me off amox, and started Benadryl, 20mg per pill, heavy doses. Eardrop antiobiotic for ears. Now, 13 days approx after starting Amox, have sort of revolving Moebius strip of symptoms: aching hands that can't hold anything, swollen hands, shoulder joint severe pain L side, huge fat lip, itching earlobe opposite where infection is, severe sore throat so bad I can't swallow, earache in "bad" ear, something feeling like "lockjaw" on L side, knees feeling like someone blew in insulation material, faintness and chills, extreme "dermatographism" -- tracks across skin when slightly scratched. Arghhhh. Taking 4x daily doses of hydroxicine for itching. Finishing steroid med for the rest, but not convinced. Because I can't depend on being able to wake up and grip anything, or not scratch, I've been at home mostly except when a friend drives me to doctor. Have twice woken up feeling perfect at about 10 a.m., once about a week after; then again yesterday; but within hours terrible hand pain. I suppose I'm slightly better, but hard to say since such severe symptoms have replaced the terrible welts and itches. I'm 71 and very strong and healthy, thank god, going to regular doc today and will ask for an EKG to check my heart. Hope all of you get/have got better quickly! XOX from Baltimore MD

By the way, forgot to mention wonderful lotion for itching, works better than any other I tried, and safer than ones with cortisone or sterioids in it because of possible intereatctions. SARNA lotion.

I was taking medicine for my strep throat, in addition to amoxillin for an infection and after the seventh day of the strep throat medicine, I stopped taking it, as my doctor told me to, and my strep throat was fine. The next day, I was still taking the antibiotics, but woke to realize I had a rash on my chest. Later that day, I started itching all over and realized my whole body was covered in bumps and rashes.

I would recommend http://indgeneric.com . Excellent service, lowest price, product arrives within 2 weeks in plain envelope. They are the sole of discretion. Believe me, I have used them several times, not that I need them but wow. Remember to check your blood pressure first as it can affect your eyesight.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aquarius

The emotional atmosphere is quite potent under this Lunar Eclipse, evoking a sense of crisis. The problems you've been experiencing with a certain person lately come to a head during the next fortnight, making you feel that you have to take drastic action or lay down the law. Yet this could make the situation worse than ever, especially if you act from a sense of panic or desperation. Take things gently and don't throw your weight around unless it's absolutely necessary.
