I have gotten out of bed and ate a bag of Doritos with cheese dip and did not remember it except for the mess on my bed when my husband came in. Also talked to granddaughter on phone one night and did not remember it.5841

I used to take Ambien as well ... I would cook food on the STOVE!!! Like just-add-water mashed potatoes ... and would have no idea until I woke up the next morning!

The only side effect that I noticed from Ambien was drowsiness. I only take it at night now when I can dedicate a full 8 or 9 hours to sleep.

When I was taking Sonata I kept having recurring nightmares about a giant butterflies trying to take over the world. I'm not sure what it meant but I thought it had something to do with watching too many of those Lunesta commercials.

I have always had a hard time sleeping my entire life. I am 27 yr old with a master's degree. I am 24hr shift work as a medic for an EMS service. This completely destroyed my sense of sleep. I am weaning myself off ambien after 20 months of daily use. PLEASE DO NOT TAKE IT!!! I became depressed to the point of being suicidal, destroyed and had to repair relationships because of phone conversations I can not remember, ate at night, fell without remembering several time, etc. I have become so confused I couldn't tell what was real, a dream, or a hallucination. In my opinion this is worse for people than alcohol, cigarettes and pot combined. If I could do anything in my life over it would have been to never take this stuff. Keep in mind I never overdosed or used it wrong. I took it when and in the amount the physician ordered.

That's the one thing the manufacturer DOES admit to. That's about it. That's why they say to take it right before you go to bed because if you take it any earlier, forget it...(uh, literally) you won't even remember taking it.

Other than that, they will continue to peddle their life/relationship destroying pills until someone puts a stop to it.

An interesting comment my M.D. made was that he suspects the reason there's no generic version in the U.S. is that no one wants to take on the liability because it is now becoming quite well known what it does to people.

American made Ambien is oblong in shape. Says Ambien on one side 10 mg. or 5 mg. on the other. The white ones are 10 mg. the orange ones are 5 mg.

The generics that come from other countries don't say anything, usually. You have to look at the foil pack for that.

I posted here earlier today, but the message seems to have "disappeared."

Lola,

You can find a list of schedules and procedures for tapering/ withdrawal that include zolpidem (Ambien) at

http://www.benzo.org.uk/manual/contents.htm

and there a number of good success stories from people who finally did wean themselves off Ambien at

http://www.thetrap.org.uk/

Maybe they can help you with the specific data you are requesting.

Let's see if this message stays put:

Lola

A good resource for helping you and your doctor plan your own taper is Professor Heather Ashton's Protocol developed at Newcastle University Medical Center. Go to the first URL listed above in my message,#11 on this page. It deals mainly with benzodiazepines, but treats the "Z" drugs like Zolpidem/ Ambien as being practically the same. Ashton feels that the easiest way to get off benzodiazepines or Ambien is to cross-over to the long half-life drug valium and then taper your way off that benzodiazepine.

I am allergic to valium, so I had to taper directly from Ambien, a tough drug to taper because it has such a short half-life that you get "inter-dose" withdrawal pains. But, even if you decide, as I did, to taper from Ambien alone, her schdule of dose reductions can be applied to Ambien.

After using Ambien for 8 months (12.5 to 10 mg daily), I just played it by ear, reducing as fast or as slowly as I felt necessary: I took 4 weeks to go from 12.5 to 4 mg, and then just about 9 weeks to go from 4 mg. to zero. Generally I cut the dose by 10% every three or four days, but sometimes stayed at one level for a full week depending on how sick I was. The initial dose cuts were fairly easy, getting rid of the last 4 mg was much tougher!

Best of Luck, Lola!

Melatonin has proved to be a great alternative, though I still use Ambien and alternate with Halcion...I've had insomnia since I was a little girl, and it makes life hard...Anyway, try the melatonin, it's cheap, it's safe, and it works...

Don't believe everything the doctor tells you about meds. they only knowwhat the drug REP told them. And the Rep only knows what the drug company told them...and who's side are they on? Their pocketbook!

Go to an AA meeting because the first thing you have to do is admit that a drug or alcohol has made you life unmanageable and that you need to rely on a HIGHER POWER... I take Mag Ox mineral and vitamin B-1, along with vitamin D and sleep like a baby.

I have been taking Ambien for about 4 years now and I am deffintly addicted to them. It started out perfect, taking one getting a great nights sleep and has turned upside down. I have at times taken more then one pill trying to fall asleep. I have had out of this world conversations with friends that I don't remember, I have cleaned my entire house at 2 to 3am (I get very hyper before passing out when taking Ambien) I get hunger where I eat everything from chips to pizza to whatever is around because I am so hungry.

What started out as perfect nights sleep has turned into a problem I have no idea how to fix.

When I don't have Ambien I have turned to taking other types of OTC medicine to fall asleep.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Pisces

Relationships are kind of shaky under this Lunar Cycle and you may even get the distinct impression you're heading for a major showdown with a certain someone. Although this feels like a crisis, don't let panic or desperation push you into decisions you would normally steer clear of. You may think you've reached the end of the road, but this isn't a good reason to go off the deep end and make drastic decisions. Proceed with caution!
