any of you who finds this thread & want encouragement and support to get off ambien, please go to "ambien withdrawal & headaches" thread. lots of very caring people there who are going through the wd process & try our best to help others. this is a very bad drug & none of us were really warned of it's danger.

First of all we are talking about a dangerous drug that is perscribed and we trust that the doncots and the company that makes the drug as well as the FDA are looking somewhat out for our health. No addiction should happen with a drug that is controlled by perscription and medical guidance. Yoou have NO idea what you are talking about. I took this drug 2 timesas perscribed by my doctor after I had not had sleep for almost 7 days due to stress. I got into a car in an ambien black out, hit a car with 2 passengers thatn goodness neither were injured and rolled into a ditch about 50feet away. I am now being charged with hit and run, DUI (ambien) and failure to maintain the lane. I have lost my house all my furniture had to have my pets put down because I have no where to live. my car insurance is being canceled and I will do jail time anD well as 1600.00 in fines. All because I followed my doctors orders and all because this horriffic drug is on the market. Do your research before posting, you have just made a fool out of your self due to your ignorance of this subject. There are hundreds of people in the same situation that I am in and WORSE. I am a 63 year lod women that is responsible and would have never thought I would endup in this situation. IT could easily happen to you or someone you care about then I am sure you would be boo hooing and probably louder then anyone else. YES!!! LAW SUITS NEED TO BE FILED TO PROTECT EVEN PEOPLE LIKE YOU THAT ARE NOT AWARE ENOUGH TO HELP OTHERS OR THEM SELVES DUE TO LACK OF KNOWLEDGE ON THIS SUBJECT TO END THE DANGEROUS SITUATIONS THIS DRUG HAS PUT HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE IN. perhaps you should take your own advice and grow up or at the very lease read as an adult should about a subject they venture to post an opinion on - educate yourself for all out sakes!

wow you are so out of line with that addict BS. A nurse gave me one so i could sleep through the night with the contruction goin on in the hospital. That was the first and last time I ever took it. My aunts husband shot himself in the head in the middle of the night, all he wanted was some rest, and now my aunt is a widow because of this pill. so get off your retarded high horse.

I only took ambien once. After following the instructions and laying in bed then taking the meds I had issues. At some point during the night I took several more and don't remember doing it. I started a fire in my yard and also discharged a firearm. The only thing I remember is waking up to a polceman standing over my bed. So saying that someone is a drug addict or responsible for their actions after taking ambien shows a lack of true understanding. I have never taken it again. This med needs to be removed from the market. chris wrote: Guys, Im reading this, and I am totally apalled. I am reading poeople talking about wanting to sue people over their own drug addiction. No one forced you to take Ambien. You are an adult, you went to a doctor at your own free will, who prescribed you a medication that you abused, and now you want to sue someone. I would bet that the doctor prescribed it with certain usage mandates, and I bet you didnt follow-them. Two weeks is the maximum sustained period that the manufacturer suggests you take it, yet I am reading here that people are taking it for months??? There is a huge website with all this information that is freely available. There is also a phamplet that came with the medication that tells you of this. I bet the prescription notes the same constraints. You were warned, you abused it, you suffered consequences, and now its someone else's fault? Grow up. You are adults and responsible for your own actions. I know insomnia sucks, because I am hyperactive and its been hard for me to sleep most of my life. But hey, life isnt always rosy. I wouldnt be surprised if some of you bought it over the internet without a prescription also, because the Dr wouldnt continue to precribe it. If so, this is exactly why we require prescriptions in the US. If you did do this, you can kiss-off any hopes at getting rich off of Ambien's manufacturer. I had some sleep issues, and I went to the doctor and got Ambien. I also did the responsible thing and read the information where it suggested 1-2 weeks maximum sustained usage...so guess what? I took it for less than a week, it helped, then I stopped, with no side-effects. There is a wealth of information available on drugs, so if you choose to take them, read the information, follow the directions, and stop whining.

I have NEVER met anyone that has had good experiences, with the exception of a relative that takes it only a few times a month. She is able to control and limit its usage. Everyone I've ever talked to that took it regularly had nothing but bad things to say about it, and some people have had truly hellish experiences because of ambien. It is a drug from hell that should be recalled and banned.

I have insomnia as well as a degenerative back problem and no one wants to operate if the meds help me have some quality of life, so it is not like there is much chice in the matter. When I took ambien, they had no warnings about all the insane side effects until way later, so slow your role and stop being such a judgemental a$$, you do not know other people or their situation. My son was prescribed Ambien to help him sleep. He takes the prescribed dose which is 5mg. I am certain of that because they are in my lockbox and I only gave him one before bedtime. I was fast asleep this morning at 3 A.M and I heard a loud bang. My son was standing beside me with his jacket on and a flashlight in his hand. I asked him what he was doing.
He replied" seeing who is here, someone is here". I said outside? He replied " outside, in my room, in the bathroom , all through the house".
I said son nobody is here.
He replied mom it is Melissa ( my daughter who just moved to another state). He said "she was in my bed and when I went to wake her up the blanket lifted and she disappeared. Then I went to the bathroom and she was talking to me, she said come save me, she told me how Joshua(my grandson) was laughing and how he loved his lizard".
I then realized every light in my home was on. I asked him why he had his jacket on and he replied " I don't know it was on when I woke up".
Now anyone can say that this drug is not dangerous and I am going to argue that statement. My son does not drink alcohol, he takes no other medications and he was having VERY VIVID visual and auditory hallucinations. In addition, he was ready to get in the car and drive to another state to save my daughter. Also he told me that my dog had puppies in his room. MY DOG IS FIXED.
My son took the Ambien and went straight to bed. His hallucinations began while he was asleep.
So for those of you who argue it is because they fought sleep after taking it, or because they took more than the recommended dose, I say that is not always the case..........

Your son is lucky. People have driven their car and died and killed others. Walked off of bridges and buildings. They take their ambien, go to bed immediately, and wake up in jail or the hospital, or in a gutter.
It's a drug from hell that should be banned.

Zootal, I agree. He is very lucky. And lucky that I had fallen asleep on the couch which is what stopped him from leaving. I sat with him until I knew he was completely asleep. Then I could not go back to sleep because I kept checking on him. I called his doctor first thing. I thought he would be mad at me for calling his doctor because he is an adult but he remembered small bits and peices of looking for my daughter and he said that he was glad I called, he flushed them down the toilet and went to the doctor. While there he told the doctor he would rather not sleep than to think that he could have harmed hiself or his family. When I told him every account he was astonished. I told him to go look in his dresser drawyers. When he saw that he had lined all of his shoes up in his dresser, done laundry, took a shower, wrapped cords around his curtains no noone could get in the window, packed a suitcase all on top of him seeing his sister , hearing his sister and looking for his sister. He started crying. He cried because he said he feared he could have hurt me and would not even have known. My son has only taken Ambien for a short time, he was asleep for at least 4 hours before he awoke with these hallucinations. BUT i guarantee you he will not be taking it again!

My wife Caren took Ambien for quite some time aprox. 2-3 years ago and she has a big memery problem. Also she sits around like she is in a state of shock and will not do anything (nothing)around the house. I don't know what has caused her to be like this, but, it is driving me crazy. She has been to several doctors, but, they don't know what to do. I would like to know if there is a class action suit concerning Ambien and how do we get the information we need to get on the suit. It has totally changed her life. She forgets everthing and is still walking, but, doesn't know hardly anything. Joe wrote: I have lost everything to Ambien. I was a Sr. Network Analyst at a major law firm in Dallas, Texas. I started on Ambien last summer at the maximum dosage for insomnia. I started having memory problems right away, along with severe diarrhea. The diarrhea physically wasted my energy and my body away to where I felt horrible all the time and did nothing but lay in bed. As for the memory, my boss would stop by and ask me to come in his office when I had a moment, but I would totally forget. Also I would repeat myself often, because I literally had no memory. This went on for 8 months until I was severed from the company after 6 years. My boss could no longer depend on me and I was largely entirely in a loon state. I still have very limited memory. I was making right at $100,000 per year but am now on unemployment,$350 per week and soon to lose my home and vehicles. My family life suffered severely also. With no memory, I soon lost the close bonds with my three step-daughters.

after taking zolpidem for a few days, I suddenly had a bad reaction. Got into my car, had a minor crash, and didn't wake up until 10 hours later in the police station. When I was released the next day, there were three pills missing from my packet, and a quater bottle of vodka. I can't. rememeber nothing about this at all.The police originally took me to hospital thinking I was suffering from a herion overdose or dementia. This stuff is seriously dangerous for some people, especially if you are on other medication.Be careful! I'm suing my Dr. for negligence, and suggest you do the same. Best of luck.

Suing your doctor won't accomplish much, except for making the attorneys richer. It is the drug makers we need to be going after. The doctors get lied to by the pharmaceuticals and think ambien is a good drugs - they are just trying to help you, and they are not negligent. Big Pharma knows how damaging it is, but they make obscene amounts of money from our suffering.
I wish there was a class action lawsuit against the makers of ambien - I'd be one of the first to join.

I was on Ambien for three years prior to February 1st, 2011. After experiencing delusional thinking [believing my husband was cheating on me and poisoning me], and asking my doctor to help me get off of it, and him telling me to 'stop playing doctor,' I abruptly quit. That would instantly throw me into a psychotic rage. I wasn't suicidal or homicidal I just didn't care. I felt like I just wanted to climb out of my skin. I didn't realize what I had done and believed someone had drugged me. I had my daughter drive with me to the hospital (one of three) and at the ER I told them that I wanted to be tested for poisoning. I was given every test that I asked for (Toxicology Screen, Urine test, ECG and a CT-it was assumed I was crazy). After all tests were negative they tried to stall me while they could figure out what to do with me. There was no psych ward at that hospital and I learned later they were trying to have me transported to the nearest hospital that did. I left and had my daughter drive me to another hospital that could run the same tests and give me the results. To shorten this: after that hospital held me for eight hours and under city police guard they had me taken by ambulance to another hospital that had a psych ward. I was placed on a fifteen minute suicide watch, subjected to male and female patients walking in and out of my room, and on one occasion an apparent alzheimer male patient entered my room and wouldn't stop advancing towards me, I picked-up a metal trashcan and put it between us. I was able to push him back with it until I could get around him and out into the hallway to yell for a nurse. My rights were completely ignored. I spent eighteen days being held against my will, in fear of not knowing what I was going through and how that happened to me, to be told by a thirty-two year RN that I was an addict and was experiencing withdraws. After two probate hearings (taken there by deputies shackled and handcuffed), two attorneys, two psychiatrist, and one judges ruling later I was released. The fear I felt while being held there came from seeing patients suicidal attempts bandaged and covered with bands, grown men allowing their depends diapers (stained) to fall to the floor, and hear patients rantings to be silenced by nurses and guards running to take them off and inject them. Which I was also subjected to after I learned my uncle died that morning and I was crying. Not out of control, not ranting just trying to tell the nurse he died. She yelled at me twice to be quiet then injected me. If anyone reading this believes that the hypnotic drug Ambien could not have caused any of this, as the psychiatrist tried to force me to believe, think again. I am very sorry to read above of the lives that Ambien has taken . I have been 'labeled' a Paranoid Schizophrenic, Bipolar, Poly Substance Abuser and Dilusional Disorder, and all because I took Ambien and after three years took myself off of it. Lesson learned TAPER or better never start. I am now one year free of the hypnotic Ambien.
