Rosie, please go to the point of return website. Email or call Alesandra, she can help you and give you direction:

http://www.pointofreturn.com/

Also please come to the ambien headache topic here on topix - there are a lot of people there that can help you and support you. We have been through what you are going through, and we know how horrid and terrifying it can be. You are not alone!

MDs prescribe drugs like candy because they don't know how to make you better, and don't want to spend the time helping you live a drug free live. Too many of them do not understand or even care how addictive and devastating these drugs are.

Ambien is a drug from hell. It does damage to the brain that takes many many months to recover from.

Come visit us, and look at point of return website - there is help available for you, you don't have to do this alone.

I feel your pain. I have only been on 10 mg a day to sleep at night...but for about 3 years. my memory is shot, and i have went cold turkey the past 5 days. my head is still spinning when I get up in the morning...nausia yesterday, body aches and to top it off I am unemployed looking for work. How do you fake a great attitude st job interviews when your feeling like crap?
I am done with this drug. Using the 12 steps to stay off it...1 day at a time. Pray for me and I'll pray for you too.

My doctor gave me ambien two years ago because I could not sleep...I have had problems with sleep most of my life.....I decided a week ago to stop taking it at nite because I was tired of being hung up on taking the sleep aid.....I also have a couple of drinks at nite.....however, I have to say that I have been feeling really crappy since Sunday last week!!!! Heart palpatations, dizziness, burning eyes, anxiety, weird head. I had no idea that this was from the Ambien....I called my doctor and I was told that I was "detoxing" from Ambien.....she told me it was dangerous to stop cold turkey.....I had NO idea this drug was so powerful! I am SO sick.....when I told my doc I wanted off she gave me half the mg dosage and told me to take one every other nite and then stop......personally I don't even want to do that because it has been one week without......but I don't want to be non-compliant.....what to do? I'm drinking lots of water and I have an Aqua Chi Footbath.....I did a footbath day before yesterday to get this stuff outta my system.....once I am over this feeling there is NO way I will ever take it again! I would rather just have a cocktail or two before bed!!!!!

Suzanne Port Orchard WA, come over to the Ambien Withdrawal and Headaches thread here on topix, there is a lot of traffic and a lot of people with stories exactly like yours, and a lot of people doing what you want to do.

Normally, cold turkey is a very bad idea, but if you have been off a week, you might as well keep going as the worst is behind you. And yes, palpitations, dizziness, anxiety, etc., all of these are well known withdrawals from ambien. It took about four months for the dizziness and nausea to go away, it was so bad that some nights I could not sleep because of the room spinning around and around. You are most definitely not alone!

Your doctor means well, but has absolutely no clue how bad ambien is, nor how to safely detox off of it. At least shw knows that it is dangerous to stop abruptly. My doctor told me to taper over two weeks. I ended up tapering over six weeks, and it was six weeks of hell.

I've been on ambien for over a year now. Usually 5 mg a night but sometimes more. It has been 3 nights now without it. I feel so drained and tired during the day even though somehow by the grace of God and some melatonin and antihistamine, I have been sleeping fairly well at night. Is this a withdrawal symptom or something else. So glad to be off. Chronic constipation has stopped too. I almost went in for a colonoscopy b/c I could not understand what was wrong.

Do not take an antidepressant in combination with a sleep aid. It is very dangerous.
Oh and never combine a sleep aid with a laxative. This too could be very dangerous! Just saying.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
