I've just turned 50 and the Dr has prescribed Altace for me and started me on 2.5mg/d to be increased to 5mg/d in two weeks. I'de like to hear other persons' experience with this. He did this because my BP was 140/90, but that really fluctuates. A recent reading was 100/60.

I just turned 40 and my Doctor has done the same.I have been on it for 5 months and discussed with him going off it as I experience dizziness. He told me that was one side effect and I should stay on it.I will give it a couple more months and see how I feel, but the dizziness seems to be to extreme for me.

Stay with Altace as it has the least side affects with teh best benefits. I was on a beta blocker and diuretic at different times, and found Altace the most effective. I'm on 5mg daily.

I'm 54 and my dr. put me on Altace, everyday it became harder and harder for me to breath. By the time I had been taking it a week I thought I was having a heart attack couldn't breath, had an allergic reaction to it. I have a dr. appt this Tues and will discuss with her at that time. I stopped taking it.

Ask your dr. about perindopril. Has much more evidence than altace as far as saving lives and less side effects.

I am 63 and have been taking Altace (10mg daily) for over a year. Within the last 3 months, I have been experiencing anxiety, strong and irregular heart beat, sleeplisness, and tinitus (really bad). Today I have stopped taking Altace and will monitor my BP. Besides, I just taking a beta blocker (TOPRAL 25 mg) for migraine headaches. I hope and pray the bad symptoms subside soon.

I think it might be the toprol giving you these side effects.

I am 59 and have been taking 5mg of Altace daily for almost two months now. Since day five, I've developed a persistant dry hacking cough. Some days it gets pretty intense. Will the cough, over time, eventually disappear or should I have the doctor change my medication. I understand all ACE inhibitors have cough as their most common side effect.

I have been on Altace for 1 1/2 years 10 mg. I'm also on Toprol 200 mg's. I had 2 heart attacks 2 years ago. I'm also on a diaretic 5 mgs. I haven't had any side effects and my blood pressure is now down to 116/40. This is the best it has been for 2 years. I get cold real easy. I feel kind of stupid wearing a sweater in 78 degree weather.

Roderick, you should purchase a BP monitor and take your BP regularly before going on any medication. If the Dr. is medicating you based on one visit, I would suggest you get a new Dr.!! You really need to take it every day, several times a day and log all of the information so that your Dr. can make an informed diagnosis. But, don't stop taking the Altace without talking to your Dr. first!

I have been taking Altace for about 3 months. Tried other blood pressure pills but could not work because of sleepiness. The altace works very well excpet for this terrible cough. I have now developed a severe sinus infection with a flu that has been going around and never have been so sick for a long time. I also because of the cough have no bladder control. I am 63 years old NEVER have been on medication during my life except for the odd time but prided myself in keeping healthy. This has a double edged sword. Good for the blood pressure but Really bad for side effects in regards what the coughing will do to you. Has changed my life considerably and will now try something natural and maybelose some weight.

I have been on Altace (Rampril) for at least a year. Just becore Easter this year, developed a cough with very thick phlegm that is very hard to clear out of my throat. I stay hoarse and sometimes completely loose my voice. Throat doctor told me yesterday, he would contact cardiologist to see about getting medicine changed - he felt it was the Altace creating the problem.

I am also taking Altace for PB and have experienced the coughing. It mostly bothers me at night. I usually have 1-2 episodes of coughing per night. I have found that if I keep a pack of listering breath strips (pocket packs) by the bed and let one dissolve on my tongue it stops the coughing. They also come in handy during the day (for the odd coughing fit) so I keep them with me at all times.

altcace related climax headache !?

I have been to be on Toprol 50mg for over a year and my doctor added Altcace 10mg about 1 week ago. Now I started developing intense headache right before reaching climax and it lasts for about a minute after. Has anyone else experienced this side effect?

Tom,
Have your kidneys failed? Are you still taking Altace? Do tell as my mother is on Altace and drs. have told her that she too has kidney failure. I'm worried.
