I get pretty big cysts right next to my eyes on both sides once in awhile. They almost look like big bug bites or something. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever had these, and what they did to help the situation. And also, will Accutane help clear these up as well?

I get small crysts right on my cheek, under my eye. It's my only "major" acne on my face.

Kevin I get those too. Don't touch them for a couple days. Those type of pimples are the reason I'm taking accutane. They get so big because the pore gets clog like any normal pimple starts out like, but your subaceous gland keeps pumping oil into the pores, and the contents spill out into the dermis causing and huge inflammation. They look bigger around the eyes cuz the dermal layer is thinner there. Let your own white blood cells fight that for a couple days before you try to pop it, and use a spot treatment product that has sulfur and resorcinol it in like Clearasil Adult Acne Treatment while you sleep at night. That will reduce the swelling around the outer edges and you'll be able to know better what pore has been clogged. Those type usually never come to a head, but you can tell after like 3 or 4 days where the "eye of the storm" is. I pop them with a needle at that point, but that is very dangerous and can cause scaring. That pimple will never go away for me though unless i pop it. I don't have any scars yet, but i do have hyperpigmentation that last for weeks on end. Use and very small, SHARP needle and put a flame to it first. Dab some hydrogen peroxide in the area, then wrap your fingers in some toilet paper when you apply pressure. If you get the wrong pore with the needle, don't start poking everywhere, give it another couple days. Ice it after it pops (or if you mess up) for like 10-15 mins. BE CAREFUL! Maybe you won't have to pop it, maybe for you it will go away with just the sulfer product. Hope so.

DON'T POP YOUR ZITS. Seriously, don't. Haven't you learned this already? Popping it creates scars and develops more zits. Never, ever pop or touch your zits.

Johnson, i agree to an extent buddy, but have you ever had one of those cysts? I'm sorry, but sometimes you got no choice. My won't go away if I don't. Everyone and there mother says not to pop zits, but when you got the mother of all pimples on your face......well....'bleep' your mother. Those cysts are a whole different breed of pimples, and I'm just telling him what i do when I get them. I don't think he was looking for "DON'T POP IT!" I also warned him that it can lead to scaring. But if you don't pop it, a healed cyst can lead to scaring anyway. It all has to do with the amount of tissue damage. I have zero scars (thanks be to God) but I have a lot of postinflammatory hyperpigmentation. Those aren't scars, they fade with time. I have never gotten a scar from popping a cyst. Only relief. But i'm not a derm, and everyones skin will scar differently. If you can handle it....DON'T POP THEM. But if you can't handle it.......atleast be surgical about it.

In the long run, it's better to just allow them to dry up and eventually go away. Plus, popping them makes them look more red and therefore noticable.

I get these cysts on the top of my head. They grow pretty large and tonight I popped one for the first time. You wouldn't believe what came out. I thought it would be puss and blood like when you pop a zit, boy was I wrong. I pinched it really hard and out came this little white soft round bead. It's the size of a pearl but a little soft. There was no puss and just a little bit of blood. Now I'm going to keep this and take it to my hairdresser and show it to her. Because she told me that she popped one for one of her clients but that there was a lot of puss and stuff. Won't she be shocked when she see's this thing. I guess after awhile the puss must harden into a ball.

Dawn thanks for that lovely description of what came out of your zit lol, and i don't think anyone would like to see it haha. Andy, man your so right. I do EXACTLY what you do. I used to get cystic acne, you got to wait a few days till you find the pore, take a needle and pop it. Or else it will NOTTTTT go away. And i dont have scars, just the red marks like you, Those red marks would be there even if i didnt pop it.I am so for popping your zits, and it looks disgusting to keep nasty looking white heads all over your face anyways. Popping it just speeds up the healing problem. But thanks to accutane, I have not had a zit in like 2 months, maybe small ones that come and go in one day.

I began taking Accutane for the same reason - cystic acne. It repeatedly appread on my forehead between my eyebrows and it would swell so badly that my entire face would swell, too. One time, I got one so bad that my left eye was swollen shut. Otherwise, my skin was never awful, definitely not to the extent of other people are are on the meds, but after 3 "face-swelling" incidents, I had to do something. My derm recommended accutane for the problem. I'm at the end of my 2nd month, and while it has not been the most pleasant experience, if it means never having one of those cysts again, its worth it. And yes, I've used the needle trick, my last awful one was so bad that I got it injected w/ steroids and then drained and it STILL refilled, I had to pop it about 5 times before it stopped filling up again. I know you're not supposed to pop your zits, but these things really do not go away without meds or medical intervention or SOMETHING. My 2nd one was injected and I was put on antibiotics and it still took about 2-3 weeks to entirely disappear. Not pretty.

I thought my sabaceous cyst (which is what they're called) was a blackhead, so I tried to pop it like anyone else would do right? Well it became inflamed and now I have a large hard lump on my forehead that looks like a horn. I try to cover it up with makeup, but there is just no point. Anyway I've had it for almost, if not longer than, a year so I'm getting it removed next week. If I could give anyone some advice, LEAVE IT ALONE! Save yourselves $300+, I wish I had known.

I had a lump for over a year now that i've started taking cayenne pepper it has gone away. I started leaking and I squeezed all the stuff out. Then at night I put some cayenne pepper on it and this morning it is so small now. I have also been taking like a teaspoon of caynnene per day in my food and stuff. I heard about a guy who dried up a tumor with cayenne pepper so maybe this works for cyst too i don't know something did it I think it was the cayenne pepper.

I get large cysts too, and when they get really bad I have them injected with cortisone. Some doctors are reluctant to do it as there is a risk of causing a scar, but chances are a large cyst could leave a scar anyways. It really helps, clears them up in a few days to a week depending on how big they are

oh, and i have a tip, if you get a large inflamed cyst to the point you need a steroid shot, ask your doctor about desoximetasone, its a very powerful topical cortical steroid, and it reduced the inflamation on mine within half an hour.

i've been on for four months now and i too have cystic acne all over my shoulders and back with the occasional dozen creeping their way up my neck and around my jaw-line. after being on this, pretty much all the superficial spots and blemeshes like black and white head have dissapeared.. magic! however the cysts still persist! they start off as like a proper knarly painful spot and then get even bigger if you play with them. they take frikin aggges to shrink down, to the point you cant see them, but they dry up and get to the stage where they carnt shrink anymore. as for popping these then well if your gonna do it then ye your probably gonna be a bit scared but the again who wants a frikin cyst on them ay? i pop these on my back all the time cuz it already looks like a battleground from WWII and Dawn, ye your totally right, what comes out is like a pearl, hard, white and shiny, with a bit of blood, no puss! this is because the puss just sits there and drys up and unless you get it out its jus gonna sit there.. as a cyst! they make a pretty big hole when they do come out, leaving like a gaping hole, kinda like a mini volcano. once you get these out though, i swear the cyst is gone!... for a good white neway!

PHYLLIS FIND THE SMALL SOFT SPOT ON THE CYST, AND STICK A NEEDLE IN IT THE SPOT SHOULDNT BE TENDER, YOU SHOULDNT FEEL ANY PAIN AND THE PRESSURE ITS PUTTING ON YOU SKIN WILL JUST MAKE IT DRAIN ITSELF. CHANCES ARE IT WILL SCAR ANYWAY IF ITS LARGE
