i took accutane at age 16 for 6 months. first of all this shouldnt be allowed, i think at minimum a person must be 18 to use this crap i was just a kid i didnt know what i was doing and neither did my dad.
now after researching it more now that im 18, the long term side effects seem inevitable if nothing is done to prevent them. i want to try to reverse the effect accutane has had on my body. i dont want to have ED or Crohn's disease or any kind of crap when im 25 because of this drug. what can i do? i am honestly scared for my well being and extremely angry at myself for taking this poison. should i consult a doctor or will they give me the "its not accutane blah blah blah"? can i ever sue these jerk offs who think the drug is just fine to manufacture? note, my acne came back after 1 year, its just as bad as before, its terrible covering my entire face. i developed excruciating back pain in my spine and i stopped being the prosperous student yearning for knowledge that i once was. i feel it has actually effected my brain and body. i want to get this out of my system, its still got to be in there somewhere after 1.5 years, i want to prevent these terrible things i see all over the internet from happening to me. what do i do? i feel like i need to flush my entire body out, or is it too late? |

What does were you on?
All the accutane will be well out your system by now, so as far as im aware there is no way of reversing the effects. Nobody will publically admit, if they know, how it works anwyay, so you cant reverse the effects if you dont know what it does biologically. Some people have sued Roche, but im not sure on what grounds. It reacts differently for each person, and there are thousands of people every year who use it and suffer no long term side effects. The possible effects should have been made aware to you before hand, and its a risk you take when taking the drug. |

Judged: 3 3 1 Several problems with your post (besides the fact that you seem to be putting the blame of all of your apparent symptoms on Accutane): 1. Half-life of Accutane is 10-20 hours, don't blame accutane for what's happening in your life 5 years later! 2. I'm 18 and have used two courses of accutane, and am on a third course, and have NO problems (cept for the acne keeps coming back! Yes I am on proper dosage for 6 months and am having constant blood tests etc...) 3. Crohn's disease is 99% of the time genetic (while everything actual is), don't start to open the door to fear and allow yourself to think like that. 4. No lawyer without a 100% garantee of a win would sue multiple doctors with MDs. Sorry, it's been tried. |

Judged: 1 1 this back pain started while i was on accutane, never went away, just getting progressively worse. i feel like i have the bones of a middle aged man. maybe it wouldnt hurt so bad if my face wasnt still covered with acne/scarring! also, my skin injuries dont heal as fast anymore, and when they do eventually heal they leave scars that dont go away anymore. wrinkles on my forehead. i can only imagine what the drug has done to my insides. oh well looks like ill be dead by 30. i guess it serves me right for thinking i needed to try and fit in that i went to such extreme measures. i'd gladly take back the acne instead of acne and a messed up spine. glad its working out just fine for you though! |

Just never take Accutane again, eat a healthy diet and wait it out to see if your body improves with time. Some people recover, others aren't so lucky. It's good though that you're becoming informed about the true nature of Accutane and its toxicology, help spread the word which will lead to more research being conducted on the long-term effects of Accutane. Go here to learn more, there's a list of links in this thread you'll definitely want to check out. http://www.xsorbit1.com/users/davec//index.cg... |

Here's the abstract of Dr. James O’Donnell’s article titled “Polar Hysteria: An Expression of Hypervitaminosis A” states,
“Isotretinoin (Accutane) is a drug closely related to the chemical structure of Vitamin A. The pharmacology and toxicology of these two retinoids is similar enough to warrant comparison. Accutane is a powerful drug which its manufacturer, Roche, indicates is limited for severe recalcitrant nodular acne. This potency is also reflected in Accutane's well-known ability to produce severe birth defects if taken during pregnancy. Less well-known is the risk of this lipid soluble chemical to affect the Central Nervous System. Reports of intracranial hypertension, depression, and suicidal indeation with Accutane use have prompted an examination of this serious and life threatening potential. Though Roche has added a warning to its product label for signs of depression and suicidal ideation, this product is being overprescribed for all forms of acne, including mild cases and moderate acne that have not been treated with alternative medications, which have a lesser risk of depression and suicide. There is no contesting that this drug is effective at clearing up the most severe forms of acne, but the public must be informed of its proper, limited indication for use; depression and suicide can follow in patients with no prior history of psychiatric symptoms or suicide attempts.” Polar Hysteria: An Expression of Hypervitaminosis A http://www.americantherapeutics.com/pt/re/ajt... !-450575803!181195629!8091!-1 |

NCC, i knew there was others out there who knew the facts. thank you. i feel worse just because i feel the joint pain and i know it will just continue to get worse and other symptoms are likely or guaranteed to occur. ROCHE and those who deny the dangers of this drug will burn in hell. i cant believe how disgusting this world is, it will be good to leave it all behind when my time comes, but a bitter memory will always remain.

I used Accutane when I was 20. I am 29 now and have suffered severe abdominal problems since I stopped using Accutane (the most severe out of the list of side effects I have experienced). There was no warning on the Accutane at the time that said it could cause any form of IBD. I live with this debilitating pain almost on a daily basis. Our perspective on pharmaceuticals needs to change in this world. Companies that produce these drugs don't look out for everyone's best interest. At the end of the day, it's the bottom line and since it's not killing or causing harm to the large group of users, the small cases of those with serious side effects are ignored. More study needs to go into how an individual will react to a medication before a medication is administered. It is too bad that there are so many problems with this drug since it does save a teen's self esteem. Looking back, I would have never taken this because of all the problems it has caused. Please remember even though you are young, you could pay serious consequences down the road for taking this drug. I was naive, desperate and uninformed at what this could cause. Dermatologists are the source of the problem since they are prescribing this drug to kids that don't really understand the repercussions it could have on their future. I am sorry so many young people have suffered like me and wish that they will one day find a way with the advancement in medicine to fix what Accutane has done to their system: mentally and physically. And maybe doctors will wake up one day and realize that we are individuals with different chemical makeups and we need to be treated as such when any prescription drug is administered. Unless it's a life or death situation, I would stay away from any medication that has a list of serious side effects such as Accutane.

I used accutane when I was 25 and my skin is horribly wrinkled and I'm not even 40 yet. I've always been suspicious that the advanced wrinkling was due to the accutane use since it closes oil glands so I did some researching and found countless articles about the advanced aging that it causes. I'm so sad. And there's nothing I can do about it...

I starting using Roaccutane (as its called in England I think, they seem to be interchangable on the internet) when I was 14. I am now 21 and have been through various tests in hospital to try and give some explanation for my bowel problems and rectal bleeding. The doctors have admitted there is something wrong but discharged me without explanation once they had ruled out the worst options (bowel cancer etc.) I agree that this drug should not be given to young people. I was 14 at the time and very upset, confused, worried and lacking in confidence due to the state of my skin. I found a mention of a link between roaccutane and IBD online this week and researched it a lot more since. I am sure that I am suffering from this, and will be visiting my GP next week to discuss this. If I had known the long lasting effect this would have on me after completing my treatment I would never have agreed to it! As it is my acne has returned anyway and I have been offered a second course, but there would be nothing any one could say to convince me to go down that road again. I am now worried about the potentially serious results of this, does anyone know how long those people with severe IBD were taking Roaccutane for? And how long after their problems escalated to the point of having to have intestines removed etc? I really feel for these people, it could have happened to any of us. And I worry it still might... I would appreciate anyones stories/comments relating to IBD and roaccutane. Its good to know I'm not alone. Thanks, |

Accutane caused my hair to thin permanently at age 19 and has never grown back, it also messed up my vision, I had perfect 20/20 before taking it and immediately afterward my vision went blurry and I required glasses. It also left scars on my skin in the places where it dried my skin out severely (lotion did not work). I also developed generalized anxiety disorder shortly after taking it when I nor anyone in my family had any history of anxiety disorders. And the acne came back after I went off it anyway. Apparently accutane is only supposed to be used for the most severe, disfiguring forms of acne, but doctors apparently don't have any problem prescribing it for mild forms, for which it is NOT supposed to be used.

Judged: 1 1 It's just vitamin A people. I don't know of anyone who has ever had ED problems from accutane. At least not anyone who has been able to prove it. Back pain, joint pain, slow healing, hair loss, ah yes these are all related to accutane. Ya see, when you have a high level of vitamin A or accutane in your system it begins to take the place of other vitamins. First off it blocks the effects of vitamin E and vitamin K. Vitamin E nourishes and lubricates the skin among other things. Vitamin K helps clotting and healing. Take these vitamins and your skin will heal faster. Biotin uptake is also inhibited. So you get hair loss. Take some biotin. Your joints and back ache? Thats vitamin A attaching to receptors meant for other vitamins again. Try taking fish oil for that. It will also help with your cholesterol. If you are depressed, your accutane dosage is probably too high. This happened to me when I was taking high doses of retinol palmitate. Too high of doses. I had IBD and SIBO before accutane. It was caused by bacteria and Flagyl cleared it up. If you have ongoing digestive problems please have a hydrogen breath test done. Yup there is a trade off in taking accutane and a low dose over an extended period of time is probably better for most people. Unfortunately it took a long time for doctors to figure that out and many of the early users had a bad experience. But if vitamin A is poison, I suggest you stop eating. lol |

so its all bout too much vitamin A, would someone tell me how can i get healthy and stop the joint and muscle problems? im 17 and i feel like a 40 years old guy. what kind of diet should i take. i took 20mg for 3 months anyone here to help me out?

Take Vitamin D, glucosamine and MSM, all pretty high doses. With high, I mean vitamin D(3) around 5000 iu up to 10000, Glucosamine and msm a bit more than the daily recommended dose on the jar. Take fish oil, as someone above has already mentioned. Vitamin A causes depletion of vitamin D- you could have your doc test your blood Vitamin D levels to see if you are deficient, but you most liekely are . 20 mg of isotretinoin per day is a very low dose, so you are probably quite sensitive. If with muiscle problems you mean cramps, then you need to take extra magnesium. I would also up my intake of protein if I were you. Best. |
