dermos take multiple blood tests to make sure you're healthy while on accutane.
Why do so much freaking people believe everything they hear? Closely monitor yourselves. You guys are just typical people, believing everything they hear and twisting the truth. Stay off the vitamin a, take the pill, be healthy, pay attention, and nothing will happen. |

right! Yes they do blood work, but not for hormones. Let me guess you just started Accutane/Chemo huh or on a low dose???? I pray for you brandon

Ignorance is not bliss when it comes to Accutane. I've witnessed first hand the horrible and permanent side effects of the medication. The FDA needs to ban this medication and remove it from the market ASAP. If you're young, you're probably vain and will still take it. However, you'll be destroying your body and youth right away or over time. I'd live with the acne instead......don't play with fire!

I'm on my second course of Accutane in 3 years. I finished my first course prematurely due to depressive side effects. The doctor said women often need a second course because acne can last longer into adulthood. I am optimistic about trying again because i know what to expect. The worst thing, even over the depression, was my flaky skin on my face. It was so visible and i tried so hard to cover it with all kinds of make-up. This time around i am striving to maintain the integrity of my skin with moisturisers, hydrating cleansers and vit. E supplements... fingers crossed. i have nosebleeds, an incredibly sore back and lack energy, but i count myself lucky. Keep positive and visualize the end result :)

I took Accutane when I was younger and everything was fine- I had mild symptoms (dry skin/ lips/ changes in my cycle).
Anyway, it came back again 2 years later, for no reason- it's not like I neglected my skin (I tried everything before going on accutane again). So I went back to my dermatologist (who did say at the end of the regime it is possible for the acne to come back) and he prescribed me the pills and I have to say it is a lot worse the second time around.I have eczema, dry lips/skin, sensitive/bleeding gums, mood swings, pains, I can't wear contacts very long, nausea, and painful cramps during my cycle. If you're considering this drug- IT DOES WORK- but know the side effects and that they can happen to you. Just really be sure you want to commit to it (and invest in some REALLY good lotion!) |

today is the first day of week 8 for me.
im 20 years old, i train 4 times a week and ift heavy, to failure. i took mino for 1 month and stopped before starting the accutane/erythromycin combo.(40mg tane, 500mg erythro/day) side effects ive noticed are: dry lips (dr dans cortibalm fixes this) flaky skin on face redness / bumpy rash on forearms bad breakout from day 5 onward, not sure if it was IB from new treatment or wothdrawal from the mino.. ive been a bit more withdrawn from my family/friends.. but i think its just out of embarassment with how bad my face was. im starting to clear up, but still have lots and lots of red marks which i hope fade in the coming month. |

i'm into my third week of using accutane and i am experiencing some side effects. Drying of the lips was instant but my herbal Blistex works fine, occasional nose bleed and sinus drip to the back of the throat causing this hooping cough and nasal congestion especially at night. I am definitely worried about the mucus that has form on my chest causing me to have this cough. can it escalate to something more? the dry skin is minor that can be corrected by using creams such as Aveeno or Cetaphil. Acne is still present havent seen any clearing/results yet.

My 16 year old son has been taking it for a month now, and has the dry lips, etc. I have also seen a change in his personality, and it's not good. Going to the Dr. tomorrow for follow-up.

My daughter started Accutane when she was about 14 years old. She had severe acne on her back and chest, not on her face. She had tried many prescribed creams and washes, antibiotics, etc. After a couple years of that, she was given Accutane. She started a pretty low dosage and over the next few months it was gradually increased. She began to get bloody noses and the dry lips which she could deal with but,she also began to feel very "blue" or depressed so her Dr. decided to keep her on it but at a low dose. So instead of being on it for the typical 5 or 6 months at increasingly higher doses, she stayed at 40mgs. for 15 months total. Her side effects were very minimal, the depression stopped and her skin completely cleared up. You cannot tell she ever had any acne on her chest and back! We thought she'd be scarred for life but her skin is beautiful! She is now 18 years old and her skin has remained beautiful-only tiny breakouts here and there. We wish we had documented this with photos or video but we didn't. We were fortunate not to have any problems since- maybe because our Dr. chose a very conservative approach. It cost more in Dr. visit co-pays and co-pays at the drugstore not to mention the cost of having to be on birth control pills along with it. Apparently, there is a law that females must use 2 forms of birth control while on Accutane. We chose "abstinence" and birth control pills. But for us, it was really worth the cost. It worked amazingly.

Ill take the acne but plz no scars.
I would rather not take this drug at all, mostly because I never take anything. I'm weary every drug has its side effects. But if I get desprate I'd like to know what is the likely hood of me getting side effects? I know it all depends on the individual but Im an odds guy. So like 1 outta 2 people get side-effects? I read through the comments and the ratio of side-effects and no side-effects is about 50/50. Is this cause people rarely brag about a good experience but jump all over a bad one? Or is it just that bad of odds? Plz lend some speculations of you own. Thanxs :) |

Please stay away from acutane. It is an incredibly harsh drug that is almost always overkill for treating acne.
I took acutane when I was 13 and after only two months on the drug I developed severe and permanent side affects. The whole list would take too long to write down but the important ones were: -Severe Depression (to the point of suicidal) -Damaged Joints and Muscles (I wound up in physical therapy for half a year just to be able to walk down stairs again) -Undiagnosable gastrointestinal issues (to the tune of hospitalization and 30+ pounds of weight lost. Rinse and repeat every five or so years) Please stay away from this drug, I am 25 now and still dealing with all of these issues. As much as I try to look on the bright side two months on this drug has effectively ruined my life. |
|
Honestly even if the actual ratio is significantly less than 50/50 it is still unacceptably high for a drug that does not treat a life threatening disease. The internet is the only place that I have heard someone say they had no side effects, everyone I've talked to in person (and there have been quite a few) have had some sort of side effect. From my perspective, and feel free to disagree, even if the side effects were far rarer than they are the chance of developing life long, life threatening side effects is far to much of a risk to treat a condition where so many other options are available, even if they are less drastically effective. This is coming from someone who has had very sever acne, tried acutane, and have had my life ruined by it (I wish I could say I'm exaggerating). And of course, to add insult to injury, I still have acne!:P Please don't just weigh the odds, weigh the severity of the outcome should you hit the unlucky jackpot. |

pretty much the side effects vary from person to person. Some people will have depression, others maybe joint pain, and the lucky ones wont have any side effects besides some dry skin. Accutane is really a gamble. If you feel that your acne is really that bad, take it, but stop it if you feel its being more harmful than helpful. I've been on accutane for 2 months now, and so far only dry skin has been effecting me. Its a hella of a lot easier to put on some moisturizer than to wash and apply 3 different benzyle peroxide products and 2 antibiotics a day. MOst likely your not going to experience all the side effects on a list like these: http://www.rxlist.com/accutane-drug/side-effe...
But its possible youd be effected by a couple. Dont go in to accutane excepting to have liver and kidney damage, depression, and strokes. But be aware that there is a risk. Notice people are mostly either happy or extremely unhappy at the drug. It really is a gamble, but the odds are stacked against the bigger side effects. Again, if you feel its worth the risk, accutane could be worth it. |

well its 2012 now, accutane is said be taken off the shelf in the US. Im still not sure what to make of this. I've started taking accutane, 3 days so far, but im still doing research.
Now, for anyone who has taken accutane, and showed back side effects; can you tell me if you TRULY think you drank enough water during your treatment, didn't drink alcohol, and ate a somewhat less grease diet? I ask because i have a theory that says that most people who did get the bad side effects werent drinking enough water, for the most part, and were eating an unhealthy diet. On the other end, is there anyone that has had a healthy pass through this, with years after having used it, remember what they might have been doing to make the side effects less likely? The answer could help thousands. |
