I am about to start accutane and before I get into it I'd like to know if all of the side-effects go away after you stop using Accutane? I am concerned about the vison loss, depression, skin dryness, and fatigue lasting even after the 6 months. Any personal stories? Thanks in advance!

I have not finished my course yet (ony 2 more weeks), but it is worth knowing that most people get only a few side effects anyway and they should go away once you stop.

I have been taking quite a high dose, but still only dry lips and occasional dry skin.

accutane leaves your system within a month after your last dose. I am about 6 months post tane and all the side effects have slowly diminished.

(except for the hair loss)

Okay thanks, see that's what scares me.. I wouldn't want the Accutane to leave long term effects.. hair loss for a life time? That's sort of a toss up here.

I didn't experience any hair loss either, but my face is constantly red. I'm 3 weeks off tane, lips and skin dryness is back to normal already. I took a very high dosage so i have major skin fragility and improper wound healing. I recommend anyone takin this drug to do a lower dose for an extended period of time as to minimize the more damaging side effects that higher doses cause.

I also have red scars everywhere, but no zits, thank god for covor up, My derm said they will fade away on there own in a year, but i cant wait that long, so they will do some kind of lazer treatment 6 months post accutane.

Most side effects seem to go away, although I have experienced diminished night vision which has lessend through the years. I finished my treatment about 7 years ago (I was on isotretinoin for about 8 months) and I will have to do another treatment starting tomorrow.
Antibiotics have not worked for me and I'm willing to take the medicine again and get rid of acne. by the way I didn't experience any hairloss, if anything my hair got better since I got rid of the excess oil.

what about side effects of birth defects in babies born years after treatment is finished? Does anyone have any info on this?
Is there a chance of this drug still being in my body 12 years later, and causing a problem with pregnancy?

Chance of that is near 0, but if it makes you feel better Pat speak to your Doctor about it. Accutane is suppose to be out of your body 2 months post treatment.

NO! NOT ALL SIDE EFFECTS GO AWAY! I developed dry eyes while using accutane and told it would pass, but it did not. It's been a year now and my eyes are quite dry (which is not as minor an issue as it sounds. It can lead to chronic pain and is not that treatable). I'm not the norm, but I know at least one other friend who had the same effect.

Help! Can anything ease the dry, cracking lips? I'm using chapstick, medicated cream, you name it, and my mouth looks like a giant cold sore! It is seriously bordering on a Ronald McDonald look. What can I do? It's painful and embarrasing. But, on the up shot, my acne is clearing great. I'm in the middle of my second month.

Lower dose for awhile to help your lips heal, a lower dose for a little longer is best. Your skin should still keep improving.

FAYE! I found the perfect chap stick! It called Dr. Dans....just look on line, maybe ebay or something. You should find it easily. It has some dose of hydrocortisone in it and my lips were literally CURED within 24 hours! It was the best stuff I found and its only about $4.00! YOu can even call certian pharmacys (CVC) and they can get it for you the next day , no perscrip. required!

I also took accutane 4 years ago and still have dry eyes. I'm only 18. My eyes are always a moderately dry but sometimes it's unbearable. At night it gets worse, during the night they get really realy dry. I hate waking up with sore dry eyes. It seems also that pollution in the city makes it worse... It's really depressing. Also, my hair is drier and breaks easily. If I could go back in time I would have never taken it.... But that's not possible... So not worth it to be left with this.
