I was on accutane about 5 months ago for 5 months.
Its back now and i want to get back on it again.
Would i require the same amount of treatment time as i did the first time, 5-6 months?
Thanks in advance

I am not completely positive and u should jus ask your derm but I am almost positive it will have to be the full 5-6 months ... they might jus lower the dosage...

It is a terrific drug for acne. it will go into submission for quite a while. Mine was in submission for 4 years at a time. and is now completely gone except for the rare pimple that shows up from my own doing eg. chocolate or chips which I rarely have. I applaude this drug for males especially.

I am 34 years old and started my first treatment at 20, I am on my 3rd treatment now. My average is about 7 years without acne and then I need to do another treatment.

I did my first treatment when I was 13, ended it when I turned 14, my skin stayed clear for a couple months, doctor tried all the basic creams and pills to fix it, didn't work. so I started it again when I was 16, but had to quit it early because of my health insurance (wouldn't pay for any of it). now I'm 22 with stubborn, persistent acne (still better than my high school days) and i'm hoping to go the doc in a couple weeks and get a perscription for accutane...i know it will work, and hopefully for longer than last time.

Same here---except the first time I was clear for about 15 years...second time seven years...and now I'm on a third round--but got the news that my cholesterol is way up so after this second month I don't know what is going to happen and I'm only on 20mg...:( I think this is probably why I was only on accutane for three months seven years ago...darn--after all the initial stuff then I have to not have all the benefit? Good luck with yours.

I remember my dermie telling me that the second round is shorter by 1/2 I believe to the first round.
I wanted off it by the third month and she convinced me to stay on it for at least 4 months to get better results and I then stuck with it for 5 mo. total.
It has been about 5 years and I have tried all the perscriptions and I just want this over with, hence the nerve racking 2nd round.

I am looking for the least expensive place to fill my presrciption. I have insurance, but it's a discount insurance and I have a $3,000.00 medical/ pharmcy combined deductible, so with that being said and it being the month of Jan. I have not quite met my deductible and with my discount the name brand is over $700.00 and the generic is over $450.00 for the 20 mg. I would really appreciate any help. I am desperate for some help. Thank you.

I've already gone though my 1st 5 month period of accutane. Its been 6 months, and I've started breaking out again with tiny tiny pimples. Am I being paranoid or is this the begining of my acne returning?

I went on accutane for 6 months and stayed clear for a few months then started getting more pimples. I heard the second round of accutane you get more dry skin. is that true?

i did accutane several months ago and now it's returning. from what i'm reading here i guess it's not unusual for that to happen. guess i thought i would just be rid of it for good.. i'd like to go for a second treatment though, hopefully it works longer the second time around.

I'm glad I found this forum, I was on Accutane for 5 months (July 2008-December 2008) and was clear for only a couple of months before my acne started again. I just got a referral for another dermatologist (new insurance) and am thinking about starting a second round. I wasn't sure how common it was for people to go for a second round, I'm nervous because I had to stop Accutane a couple of weeks before my regimen was over due to a persistent migraine that might have been due to the drug.

I finished Accutane in the fall of 2004. I went through the whole cycle, and I hadn't had ANY cystic acne until last week (almost five years). I'm hoping...no, praying, that this is just a freak thing and that it won't be full blown like it was in my early twenties. We'll see. I know that many people do have to go two rounds, but I must say...it is an amazing drug, and it has truly done wonders for my face. If you're young enough, and don't plan on having children anytime soon, do the first round, and do the second if necessary...it's worth it.

Melissa, I was on accutane for almost 6 months and u broke out horribly for 5 of the 6 months, then for the last month and about 1.5-2 months after I stayed clear! It was the best thing evvvvver! The prob with me is I have the greasiest skin ever so after the 2 months I noticed my skin becoming more and more oily. After my skin returned to it's natural moisture level (as it's supposed to) I started to get like really really tiny whiteheads on the sides of my jawline. Then I'd get the odd huge zit. Now in January,(I stopped my 6 month dose in September) I have oily skin, and my jawline where facial hair is growing and on my forehead have started to break out again. I am scared that my acne will come back to it's full fuckin-gay force so I went to my doc yesterday and got a blood test today and I'm starting my second round on accutane tomorrow!(BTW I had my first dose when I was 15 and now I'm 16 starting my second and I'm male) It should do the trick! Hopefully yours doesn't return!
Best of luck
