I've been on accutane for about 3 weeks now and my face is almost all cleared up(i didn't have too much to begin with), however, when I look in the mirror, my skin is terribly dry and there's white flakes all over my face. Now, I'm just curious whether or not anyones doctors advised them to use any creames or not.
I'm not sure whether or not I should use one, since it may cause me to break out. However, my skin is so dry and peeling, it looks like I have a sunburn.
Thanks and any help would be appreciated.

i hear cetaphil cream works great (can purchase from any drugstore)...thou i use persriptives clarins from bloomingdales (non acnegenic which wont clog pores) i even asked my derm about this as well and he said that using moisturizer will not effect your tane progress in any neg. way just use something light after washing with a cleanser...i like aveeda face cleanser.

How often should I use this mosturizer? For instance, I work an 8 hour work shift sometimes and I have school, which is about 8 hours. So, If I use this cleanser or moisturizer in the morning, should my skin be fine for the rest of the day, or should I use it first thing in the morning and say around 4 again?

I have recently started accutane around 2 weeks ago. I need to know what king of moisturizer and cleanser is going to be good for my skin. Can I just use any cleanser that has no active ingredient in it? I'm not real crazy about the Cetaphil cleanser; the moisturizer is ok.

Try Purpose dual action treatement. It is non comedogenic so it wont clog pores and works very good.

Non detergent cleansers are best for sensitive skin types. I am on accutane and use Fresh's Soy Face Cleanser and its Fabulous!! Removes dirt and makeup without drying or irritating the skin.

Cetaphil cream (in a jar, not lotion in a bottle) worked the best for me. Once a day in the mornings.

This man who claims he is a Doctor is giving irresponsible advice.

First you never shut off oil glands with a chemocancer drug such as accutane.

That acidic oil barrier is there for a reason. TO KEEP OUT STAPH AND FUNGUS.
TO KEEP THE SKIN SOFT, WRINKLE FREE, FLEXIBLE AND YOUNG.

When you constantly apply moisturizers they absorb into the true skin and because they have molecules that attract water they pull moisture from the top layer to the true skin thereby leaving the top skin dry..........so you have to use more.

This leaves you constantly chasing the dryness problem and absorbing more chemicals into your skin and blood stream no different than the same mechanism of absorbing birth control patch chemicals or antismoking patch chemicals where your liver must constantly deal with removal.

These chemicals are not meant to be inside your body.

Look at the ingredients in some of these moisturizers then look them up on the web.
or google the chemical name and MSDS.

soccergurl-

don't expect to see results instantly. you probably will not see any changes for 3 or 4 months. it's a pain in the ass process, so hang with it. I'm just surprised that your derm put you on it at such a young age. I'm on it and I am 20. Seems like you still have time to grow out of your acne. Just curious, what type of dosage are you on? If your dosage is too high, you will experience severe dryness.

as for your dry skin issue..i have the same, although mine did not begin until month 2. I would recommend a non-drying face-wash (like cetaphil) and a good face moisturize (i use cetaphil for both). If your face gets flaky, just keep on moisturizing. I probably put moisturizer on my face every 3 hours, especially in the winter or when it is windy. If you are experiencing a dry nose (nostrils) just buy a cheap, generic brand of nasal spray. It feels weird, but it will work for you.

Nothing is working for me. I used Accutane when I was a sophomore to my junior year of high school, and Im a senior in College now and my skin is STILL dry. Particularly, my legs are effected. Ive used everything, Johnson and Johnson, Aveeno, oatmeal lotion, and most recently Gold Bond. Nothing works! I need the thick lotion so the Jergins stuff doesnt work. Help!

The only thing that works for me is pure shea butter. Put it on at night and your skin will soak it up, then use your regular moisturizer during the day.

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Taurus

Get involved in financial transactions at your peril under today's Lunar Eclipse, because certain people will use them as a stick to beat you with. For instance, if you ask someone to lend you money they'll either make you feel guilty about it or dredge up all sorts of past instances when their trust was betrayed. You would also be well advised to avoid any show of possessiveness or jealousy, even if you feel it, unless you truly don't care about the disastrous outcome.
