I finished my first course of Accutane 5 months ago and loved it!!! Now I am starting to break out again and was wondering about going on another cycle. Is there a time period that I must wait to go on another cycle?

Also I am going to see my dermatoligst next month.(I am a college student and that is my spring break.) Will he put me back on it? If he does not I was thinking about buying it offline.

Anyone with any advice would be greatly appricated.

Hi Tom,
I would definitely do a secord course. I think you just have to wait 2-3 months in between.

My dermtologist told me it's okay to take a second course. I say go for it and enjoy clear skin in college!

hi people, looking for a bit of advice. i finished my first treatment of accutane 2 months ago, and my skin was looking great, since then ive broken out, but its deffinately not as bad ( a few new small pimples coming up every day, 1 or 2 big ones every now and then ). my derm just put me on 20mg a day saying it would clear it up. Does anyone think it will work, or should i increase the dose ?(i am 6ft 2 in height) any replies will be appreciated.

Hey Tom,I feel exactly like you. I finished my first accutane course back in early October and I started to get breakouts a month afterwards. I had pretty oily skin but none at all when I was on accutane of course. I too will be seeing my derm this spring break since I am up at college right now. I've been on antibiotics since Christmas but its just not the same. I hope that I get on Accutane for a second time and that this go around my initial breakout won't be bad like the first time.

Mark,
I could not agree with you more. I am going back to my dermatoligst and demanding to get back on it! I have taken everyhting else and it does not work. I know this works and gets the job done, so I am hoping that he will put me back on it. Good luck and let me know what happens my appt. is March 10th so I will come back and let you know what happened.
Also if I get back on it I hope the first breakout is not as bad, but if it is I will take it becasue after doing one cycle I do not allow a single pimple or red mark on my face!

Its about two years ago I took Accutane as well but my skin seems to hate me for I'm back to where I was two years ago, though now where near as bad. Its just annoying for an 18 year old and I want them all gone. I'm a girl and taking Accutane can be dangerous so I hate going back on it, but it was the ONLY thing that completely stopped ALL acne.

I finished my 2nd course in December. The acne is coming back slowly but surely. I'm convinced that Ryan was right and you have to stay on a maintenance dose if you want to prevent the acne from returning.

I am 26 and I took Roaccutan (isotretinoin) for about 6 years including breaks. I did about three normal high dose treatments but the acne always came back after 1 month. So I tried a low dose treatment (10mg every second day). This worked almost as good as the high dose treatment but I had less dry skin and eyes. Besides the dryness I didn't have any side effects and I was quite happy about the result. In January 2007 (about 5 years after I took isotretinoin the first time, and after about 2 years of low dose treatment) I had some pain in my wrist-joints when i worked at the computer (i study informatics so I use the computer a lot). The pain appeared only occasionally. Because I didn' pay a lot of attention to it, the pain got worse. In July 2007 I had to quit an internship as a programmer because the pain got so strong and I feel it now from my wrists to the shoulder. Until today (April 12th 2008) it didn't get any better although I took a long break from the computer and tried several anti-inflamatory pills. I finally stopped taking isotretinoine in December 2007 because I thought maybe isotretinoine is the cause for my pain. After reading some posts on the internet about similar joint and muscle problems, I could kick myself for not stopping taking it earlier! Now I am "clean" for about 4 months, but my pain situation didn't improve. I guess it takes longer until my body heals because I took this s*** for such a long time (I am still optimistic to lose the pain!). My skin doesn't look very good because the acne came back again (not as bad as before), but now I am old enough to live with it and I hope as time goes by it will get better by itself (I heard isotretinoine can slown down the natural evolution of the skin, so if I took it for about 6 years my skin is still a teenager although I am 26. Maybe you just have to accept it for some time).

I have visited at least 4 different doctors including a rheumatologist because of my pain but noone could tell me what I have. I don't have carpal tunnel syndrome. One doctor told me I maybe have fibromyalgie but he's not sure. Well... what do I want to say with this post? I am interested if there is someone who has similar symptoms? And I want to warn everybody of taking isotretinoine. My skindoctors all said that isotretinoine is not that bad. I believed them because I only had dry skin as a side effect... at the beginning.

Glucosamine, Chondroitin, msm are all good and even better with hyalauronic acid included.

It is actually the HYALAURONIC ACID that makes the most difference because it is what retains water between collagen molecules and rehydrates your skin, joints and eyes all at once.

Find a product with all ingredients.

All these things should come together at once including the basic building blocks to collagen which are the amino acids L-Lysine, L-Proline and vitamin C from lots of fruits, especially tropical fruits like kiwi, mangos, guava, camu camu.

A raw food diet will provide non heat damaged L-Lysine.

A raw food diet will eliminate antagonists within the joints like denatured protiens that set off antibody reactions in the joints and autoimmune destruction of cartilage.

"All my skin doctors said accutane is not bad"

Of course they say that. How else are they going to pay their mortgage, buy that new sail boat and go on vacation.

Accutane brings in high profits. I paid 160.00 bucks a week........ CASH.

People. You dont want to end up another casualty like this man and many more like him by the irresponsible disease-for-profit dermatology industry who play down the side effects of this chemocancer rat poisen.

He took accutane for 6 years then the acne came back.

He wishes he would have never taken it. Does that sound familiar?

Is it worth being cripled like this? For what? What did he gain when his acne came back after taking this for 6 years!!

The fact remains that dirty molecules, salt and other dietary toxins like MILK AND MORE were still present causing the acne in the first place and no magic pill will make that go away.

SWITCH TO A RAW FOOD DIET AND YOUR BODY WONT FIGHT YOU.

Taking accutane and slamming your oil glands shut doesnt not negate the fact that these toxins are still circulating in your bloodstream, tissue and lymph system where they will eventually cause cancer because they are inflammatory cell disrupters.

I took Accutane 9 years ago (only for 4 months) and have similar problems as Dan (tendons in hands/arms and legs). But I am a computer programmer, too, so Accutane may not be to blame for those problems.

But one thing I am very sure of: Do not take it! Nobody knows what it does to your body, but it changes it forever, e.g. since I took it I have been much more often thirsty.

Later I discovered that I could greatly improve my acne by avoiding milk, hot spices and certain sweets (had to try out each individually) and by using Nivea soap.

I will not come back here and read your answers but if anybody finds this a couple of months later: DO NOT TAKE IT!

i have been struggling with acne for over seven years, and i've tried every single thing my dermatologist could possibly prescribe..but nothing worked, until she finally decided to put me on accutane. It was a miracle drug, it cleared up every single inflammation on my face. There wasn't even a trace of my acne after my cycle was done.

But i've been off of it for 3 months now, and all the acne is starting to come back, and I want to go back on it. I didn't have any major side affects except for weight gain and the occasional dry eye/lips. But I am afraid that a second cycle of accutane COULD generate some other side affect?? Should I risk it?

I am a 36 yr old female who has struggled with acne for 25 years!!! I am on my 4th cycle of accutane in my 2nd month. My doc started me out at 40mg a day the first month and she doubled it after I begged and pleaded with her. My skin is still breaking out. When I took it back in my 20's it cleared up within a couple weeks. This time is different. I'm at my wits end!! I couldn't even start acne scar revision because I was breaking out so bad, it would've been a waste of money. When does it end?

I suffer from Rosacea and consider to go for a long term low dose accutane treatment.

For those of you who write you struggle with joint and muscle pain after working with computers: I am an engineer and have struggled with it for years. In fact half of the guys I work with have chronical joint paint in arms and shoulders. None of use ever used accutane.

I think there is a bit of paranoia regarding this medication. What ever problem people have in their life after the accutane, they seem to blame the drug for it. I honestly doubt it can all be true.

Hey Dan. I have been off Accutane for 11 months now. I took one dose of 6 months and another for 3 months. I haven't had any severe joint problems like you have had; however, I have had some. I am somewhat glad I took Accutane just because of the improvement in my skin. But it has also altered my life in a lot of other negative ways. I have nights where I wake up and my back and the bones in my legs hurt terribly bad where I cannot go back to sleep. This did not happen before taking Accutane. I used to could see normally at night. I have had a significant decrease in night vision. When the lights go out, THE LIGHTS GO OUT. Almost complete darkness for me - and it is hard to manuever a car at night. I have very frequent migraines now. We associated these migraines with my Accutane usage, and that is why I only took my second dose for 3 months instead of 6. I had to stop it because of the tremendous pain. My last month of taking it, I had had a migraine for 23 consecutive days...my doctor told me my brain was swelling, and I had to get off of Accutane immediately. Since then, I have these excruciating migraines at least once every two weeks. I have continuously dry lips. Also, I have noticed I am very easily depressed after taking Accutane. I used to be a very happy go lucky person all the time, but now I notice a significant change in my personality. This started after my first month of taking Accutane and appears every few months. Weird. Overall, I honestly wouldn't advise taking Accutane over about 4 months total. And only if you REALLY need it. I'm not very sure it was worth it. Has anyone else had these problems? Hope this helps!!

Daily Horoscope for June 4

Aries

Take care today Aries, because the emotional landscape in your neighborhood will be full of pitfalls during the coming fortnight, as it has been since the Solar Eclipse on May 20. The more convinced you are that you're right, the harder it will be to navigate your way around forthcoming events. If you feel resentful of someone, perhaps a neighbor or sibling, you need to get your feelings out in the open, rather than burying them deeper, where they'll fester and lead to more problems in the long run.
