I've tried over the counter sleep aides and none of them work. Valerium, melatonin, etc keep me awake as well as any of the antihistamines in Tylenol PM, etc. I must have an odd chemistry. I've tried deep breathing techniques to no avail. Any suggestions?

RE: Julie Lee
Hi,
I've been taking one 30 MG of RESTORIL (Temazapam) plus 2 Tylenol PM tablets at night about one hour before I'm ready to go to sleep and this combination works well for me.
I also have access to Zanax (just in case) and IT always works ! But, the Restoril + Tylenol PM should help you out.
NO ONE knows what it's like when you can't sleep !

The fact is sleep medicines are only going to work for a short time and then your body will become tolerant of them. Check out this link, http://www.theinsomnianatural.com/

Maybe you are not an insomniac just a night owl in a early bird society. Great article, check it out if you decide to go au natural!

my doc just put me on Ambien and I need to be weaned off of Amitriptyne after using it for 15yrs only at night for sleep. Right now I'm taking both until I talk to the doc on how to wean myself. Ambien is a wonder drug. I tried to relax and go to sleep without taking the Ambien but my brain won't shut down to relax. I don't walk up drugged or tired. Also husband snores so loud you can hear him in the next county and I didn't hear him until early morning. I'm not looking forward to the weaning process, sounds scary.

I've had terrible insomnia forever. Really messes up my ability to do things during the day with my family and friends. Supposedly (according to cnn or whatever) there's something to do with melatonin that is supposed to be naturally produced by your brain to make you sleepy and they talked about some pill that was super-boosted with it. I sent off for my free 30 day trial or something. I figure it's 100 guaranteed so I'm taking a chance with it. I'll let you guys know if it works or not. I got it from http://digitalleading.com/sleep.html

Try Cognitive Behavior Therapy - Dr Gregg Jacobs has on online program which I used. It's really inexpensive and it works. In 4 weeks I completely dropped sleep medicines, and I now sleep better than I did in years.

I have been using Similisan for Anxiety. They are little pills you put under your tongue and make you feel sleepy. They are make of silver nitrate and in small doses it makes you relaxed. It's the only thing I can take and not feel groggy the next day.

Be careful with Restirol. I understand it is more habit forming than Ambien or Lunesta. I suffer from insomnia and take either one of the two mentioned medications about once a week wit no ill effects. Talk to your doctor to see which will work. Also Ambien now is generic and much cheaper.

Some people use Trazodone as sleeping pill. I find a good review source about Trazodone - http://trazodone.info There is a full description and information on dosage, side effects, etc. at that site. I hope, it will really help somebody.

Trazodone made me sick and hungover the next day. It's a nasty drug that messes with your brain. While it isn't the worst thing out there, it did not help me with sleep problems at all.

I wish there was some magic pill that would just fix it all, but when it comes to sleep problems, there are no pills that help, no pills that can fix the problem. Sleeping pills only make things worse.

I agree with the idea insomnia is a state of mind. That leads to recovery coming from a change of focus and mental conditioning rather than a quick resort to drugs . Drugs in the long term can only make insomnia worse. http://insomniatreatment.biz/ should be about changing routine and behaviour.

Insomnia is not always a state of mind. Some people are true insomniacs no matter what they do, they suffer from what can be best described as an over active mind. Their mind does not slow down enough for them to sleep well. Sleep hygiene, CBT, etc., does not help them. These people live a life of desperate sleep deprivation, or end up taking drugs that helps marginally at best.

Many of us have temporary insomnia - something that happens that for a short period of time makes it difficult for us to sleep. Unfortunately, we go to a medical doctor who has little training with insomnia or psychiatric drugs, and the next thing you know they give us drugs, addictive drugs that make our temporary sleep problems a long lasting problem. If we left the drugs alone, our ability to sleep would quickly return. I went through a year and a half of hell because of the drugs my doctor gave me, when all I needed to do was to just wait it out for a bit.

Daily Horoscope for June 2

Aquarius

You won't like it if you feel your wings are being clipped today. You want to do something in particular, only to discover that someone is objecting to your plans or that circumstances beyond your control are standing in your way. Although your instincts tell you to throw a tantrum to get your point across, you must ask yourself what this will achieve, and whether it will actually be self-defeating.
