Danelle wrote: Does anyone know if the risk for blood clots is higher with nuvaring than other birth control contraceptives? Yes, the nuvaring puts you at higher risk of clots due to the type of hormones it uses. They have started putting it in their ad, however this drug should be pulled off the market.

I had lots of problems on BC pills, but once I got informed by my doctor about the risks of any horomone birth control and over the fear mongering, it has been the best thing. Not only does it prevent pregnancy, but it also completely controls my migraines (another risk factor for strokes), and my extremely sever PMS, cramps and hemoragic bleeding. Talk to your doctor and don't believe everything you read on sites like this. Stroke is tragic, but 1/4 reduces this risk significantly... and having a baby is actually statistically a lot more dangerous than hormonal birth control - and I have two kids... BELIEVE WHAT YOUR Reading LADIES- NUVARING HAS KILLED TO MANY ALREADY !!! DON'T BECOME ANOTHER VICTUM, OUR DAUGHTER WAS USED THE NUVRING 2MTHS AND IT COST HER HER LIFE!!!!!!!

Bethani" I read what you wrote and I am quite interested to your thinking, nuvaring releases hormones and is a smaller dose then almost all but the copper IUD which has no hormones what so ever. Although there are plenty of other risks with that too. I listened to my doctor and lost a baby and almost died from the NuvaRing a little over a month ago, and you know the NuvaRing was the last thing they wanted to say was responsible although that was the only thing left and the only thing that had changed in my body. I used the Mirena IUD for almost two years and had no period at all but I couldnt loose any weight so I switched to the NuvaRing and almost immediately had problems it was the worst experience of my life and my doctor had successfully delivered both of my girls. I would like to also know where you got your statistics because statistically speaking putting hormones or anything considered foreign in your body is a bigger risk then having children, but as in everything everyone's body is different. However, that is the whole point of this for people to be aware, I couldnt take the pills so I sought another option and it was dangerous and almost proved deadly to me as well as many other woman out there and that was with me thinking that I was informed and listening to my doctors, so no dont believe everything you read but dont rely on your doctors soley they are human and form their own opinions as well be warned and be aware just because you dont have a reaction right away or signs that show as severe as ours doesnt mean things arent going bad or are not going to happen it is your body and your risk and I kn ow I dont want to take the chance of leaving my family before my time.

Omg... That is rediculous. Just cuz you have had problems with the ring does NOT mean every women out there is at risk. I have been on the ring for 4 years and I am healthy as a pickle! Sure the first 3 months was hell cuz I had to deal with vaginal infections often, but that is BECAUSE my body had to adjust to the ring. Everyone is different and NOT the same, everyone has different side effects, and reactions. I am sorry about your experience, but just cuz you had a bad outcome from it, don't mean every women is suffering. My advice is to be very careful with what you use, eat healthy, don't overdue the workouts, and get checked up by your doc regularly. If you are starting to feel ill in any way, contact your doc and try to make an early appointment. If it's that bad, honestly don't stall, go to the ER! Again I am sorry for those happenings, I am sorry that you all had bad side effects, and I am sorry if i was rude or offended anyone in this post.

Yeah, I agree with Anon. I have been on it for 8 yrs. And I'm fine. You guys think the ring is a killer cuz you all are over reacting! In case you numb nuts didn't know, that HPV shot called Gardisil increases your chances of getting cancer. NOT lower it! But why do docs keep prescribing it? IT'S CUZ THEY JUST WANT MONEY. DUH!!!! That is my point! Use your heads! Do your complete reaserch before you decide what to pick to destroy your stupid lives!

I've been on the ring for a while now and I am really sick of it bc i get discharge bc of it and it smells. So I took it out for my "ring free week" and decided to not put another one in. Well I stopped bleeding after my normal period but then I continued to bleed two days later. At first I thought it was just all the old blood, but its been looking fresher and less coagulated. Once I see a doctor I'll get back to you all.

Ignorance is ugly. No one is telling you not to use this product what people are trying to do is to raise awareness of possible serious side effects. What is stupid is when you go to the hospital and they run basic tests without digging any further because it suppose to be such a safe product, and don't even consider it as a reason for the throbbing in your calf that feels like its on fire so they make an appointment with a physical therapist but you drop dead the day before it because a blood clot that was in your leg traveled to your lung and you suffer a pulmonary embolis. No further test we warrented because of this great bc. That is fu**** up!!! Hundreds of lawsuits say different. If you've researched this at all you'll find that they backdoored the approval of this product to get it in the U.S. Ladies continue to speak up. Don't let a few ignorant people stop you from being informed. If your happy with the product, use it just be aware.

Why not get a lawsuit on all of the BC? The stupid one has a tiny point on the BC part. I mean it does make a bit of sense ya know? What if we do win and get it off the market? What if we used another type of BC and it's even worse than the ring? What should we do then? Get another lawsuit orrrrr? I'm just asking these questions because what if it does happen? Sorry if you think I'm an idiot. I'm only 15 lol

The nuvaring is the worst contraception i have ever tried. Not only did I gain a few kilos but after using it only once, i started getting tears in my vagina after sexual intercourse. It has thinned out the membrane around the vulva that each and every time I have sex, my vagina tears. No matter how much lube I use, no matter how gentle we are, my vagina tears. It takes 3 weeks for the tear to heal and ,only to have it come back again after having sex once. There are heaps of women experiencing the same thing with this stupid ring. I have also read that women have gotten pregnant on it more so than on any other contraception. So ladies if you are getting tears in your vagina and severe moods swings, discharge, its the ring. I took mine out 2 months ago and am still experiencing symptoms that apparently do not go away, according to what I have been reading in other forums. Has anyone else had this since using the ring? It has ruined my health , not to mention put a strain on my relationship. Take it out and contact the company in question and let them know what is going on. We are not guinea pigs for experimentation. Do not risk your lives. This ring should never have been allowed on the market with all the bad hype it has. I also recently read that many women have died using this ring. I am speechless. http://www.elkandelk.com/drug-recall/nuvaring ...

I have been on the nuvaring for about 6 months and have been havign trouble with pain in my legs for about that long. I have also had isolated pains in my head. Once I went to the hospital due to pain in my chest, couldnt breathe. I told them I had pain in my legs and I was supposed to see a cardiovascular specialist as directed by my reg doctor. No one has yet to tell me not to use it. I think I am going to take it out. I dont want to have an embolism from it. It is just not worth it. I never had any issues until i started using this with pain in my legs. WHat should i do about the pain, will it go away once you take it out? Was the hospital being negligent by not testing me knowing i had these risk factors? If someone can give me some advice that would be great. My doctor put me on meds for poor circulation in my legs but not dvt and didnt order any test. I really hope I dont have a clot. I have a lil boy 15 months old I want to see graduate college.

I also used the nuva ring for about 6 months. It took until the 6th month to finally figure out that my leg pain could be related. Also swelling in my hands and feet. It was subtle, and got worse the longer I was on the ring. I almost went to the hospital because my leg aches were pretty bad, and I was worried about a clot after reading some posts. Luckily my sister-in-law is a nurse, and since I didn't have red hot swelling I was sure it wasn't a clot. I took the ring out on my usual week off - and never put a new one in. It only took 2-3 days for my leg pain to subside. After taking it out I have also been experiencing sore nipples, and some abdominal cramping, but only for a few days.
My concern is this: I've been on bcp since I was 18 to control crazy periods. Aside from the pregnancy and birth of 3 children - I have used hormonal contraception and am now 33. I only used the ring 6 months. I never had severe side effects. No nausea, headaches or any of the common complaints. ARE THERE ANY PERMANENT SIDE EFFECTS OF BEING ON HORMONE BC FOR SO LONG? This stuff about the ring is SCARY!! I can't believe I didn't research it more before trying it. Thank God nothing serious happened!
Hubby and I are back to old school condoms - which after 9 years of marriage without them is not fun, and not working so well for the Mr. I'd rather end up pregnant again than go back on hormones.

I was on the NuvaRing back in 2006 for just over a month. I developed a horrible headache and had swelling in the veins above my right eye. Went to the ER had a cat scan to make sure I didn't have a clot in my brain. They said I was okay. I developed severe migraines the summer after this and had a possible TIA. I have suffered from Basilar Migraines ever since. I was 26 when this happened. Does anyone know how long you can have lasting results from side effects from the NuvaRing? I'm just wondering if there is a correlation?

There are risks with every birth control, each one has different side effects on each individual person. I have been on the nuva ring for almost 3 years and I couldn't be happier. My periods are 3 days, barely any cramps, it's not heavy and it comes like clock work. I take my ring out thursday, get my period Monday and it's gone by Thursday, in time to put my new ring in. Most people have to try more then one birth control until they find one that works beat with their particular body.

This BC has caused numerous deaths and even though you may like your ring, I would not trust it. If you read other forums women have been developing sudden side effects after using it for years. It is not safe, you should take it out before something serious happens. If it was within my means I would sue the idiots who made it.We are not guinea pigs, like they have made us out to be.

I have been on Nuva Ring for about two years. I haven't had as many problems as the other contraceptives - Levlen made me gain 10kg in 3 months and went from a size 8 to a size 12. Yasmin was initially all good - then all of a sudden decided to make me bleed every day except for the the days I took the white pills???? I have just recently decided to take a break from Nuvaring as my boyfriends been on my back about it. I took it out on the 12th of October - I've had 5 heavy periods since along with the side effects of pregnancy (I'm not pregnant)- 2 of the periods lasted for 7 days - It's driving me insane and I can't wait til it's out of my system.
