Does anyone have any news about this product. My sister was on the nuva ring and is only 29 years old. She had a stroke about two weeks ago and the cause stated by doctors is the Nuva Ring. It caused clots which traveled to her brain and gave her the stroke. She is semi-paralized on the right side of her body and now has to use a wheelchair, walker, potty chair, and shower chair. If anyone out there is having symptoms or anything of the sort please respond.

My little sister, 23, died 11/21 and I am only just finding this information regarding the nuva ring and the high risk of blod clots. Cause of death is listed as a pulmonary embolism. This has to stop, I cannot even imagine prescribing this to anyone as a form of birth control considering the known mortality rate.

My friend who previously was young and healthy, a nonsmoker, suffered a stroke a couple of months ago. The doctors tell her it is due to the Nuvaring she had been using. I know that they say the risk of stoke exists but the commercials barely mention it and health care professionals that perscibe the contraceptive seem do down play this very real and devatating even lethal risk. Who is to be held accountable? It should not just be buyer beware. Where is the FDA on this issue, or are they sitting this one out while beautiful women are being struck down, their lives devastated or abruptly ended. I have been telling every woman I know about the more than little risk of stroke due to contraceptives, and plan oncontinuing to discourage the use of the Nuvaring. I wish your sister and your family well. With love and support lives can be rebuilt and these lives will be even more enriched.

I just started the Nuva Ring a few days ago. The day after I began using it I started having pain in my left leg. I thought it was weird, but didn't think much of it. I got online to research when it will be effective and ran across many posts regarding blood clots and strokes related to the Nuva Ring. I read a few posts of some who were also experiencing pain in the left leg. I decided to stop using it today. I don't know if this is even related but I'm not taking any chances. I think I will go back to taking the pill...

I just started taking it a week ago and have been having severe migraines since day 4 or so. I didn't even think about them being related until I got online. I'm taking it out today.

I am sorry to hear about your sister.
My firm is taking this type of case and we already have other plaintiffs who have unfortunately passed away due to the NuvaRing. The more plaintiffs we are aware of, the more we can show the statistics of risks are off. Please contact my office by calling (800) 9100-LAW or visit our website at www.BBPC-LAW.com . Once again my condolences.- Jason

I had used Nuvaring for about one year before I ended up in the ED with shortness of breath, pain in my chest. I work in healthcare and I didn't know I was suffering PE! I didn't find any information online last year about those who'd experienced PE/DVT with Nuvaring...and was prompted to search now because a co-worker of mine was hospitalized last week with PE due to use of birth control. I can't believe this is going on...and I watch the Nuvaring commercial now and want to add a bit more to the "fine print" than they present.

It is unacceptable that so many women are being injured - being killed - by something "everyone" is using.

I realize how lucky I am not to have suffered a worse outcome.

Does anyone know if the risk for blood clots is higher with nuvaring than other birth control contraceptives?

Everyone should look at this campaign http://notmypill.org/ - it's about the specific type of hormone (Desogestrel) that's in the ring and in some kinds of birth control pills -- Desogestrel doubles the risk of blood clots. If you have any risk factors for blood clots at all you should not be on any hormonal bc method, but especially avoid anything with Desogestrel.

By the way, that website is meant for education and to contact the FDA to complain about these dangerous pills being on the market. It has a list of most dangerous birth control pills and also links to info on other dangerous pills you may be taking. Be aware and take care of yourself!

Hello everyone. I was on nuvaring last year. I started in Jan. 06 I was really moody, severe headaches. In October I went to the emergency room because I couldn't breathe. Come to find out I had a clot in each lung and a pulmonary embolism and to top it off pnumonia (however u spell it) I had just turned 26 that summer. I am on a blood thinner medicine that I have to take at the same time everyday at least for 3 more months. I have never smoked a day in my life and I was not over 30 so I didnt think that it would effect me since that is what is stated in the commercial (high risK)
