Bartenders are not mad about being exposed to 2nd hand smoke. You are misrepresenting an entire industry

Workers in the bar and restaurant industry are ecstatic over the bans! Even IF they smoke themselves, they prefer no smoking in the bars because the long term exposure for them is bothersome in many ways.

Sarah, I'll have to disagree with you. I bartend in a very popular club/bar in Lafayette and the smoke issue irritates everyone working there, even the smoking bartenders. All I want is to be able to go to work and not have my eyes burning and nose running all night while I'm trying to work. I have to strip off my nasty clothes as soon as I walk in my house because the smoke smell is so bad. It'd be a blessing from God himself if this were passed. I talked to a few of our smoker patrons about it and they all said they would trade a designated smoking spot to not have the air completely saturated with 2nd hand smoke. Ive been bartending in Lafayette on and off for about 10 years and I have worked in many different types of bars. I guess part also has to do with a small percent of smokers who don't care where they exhale their smoke, as in right at the bartender or the person next to them. That's irritating and has caused many fights over the years. Kinda off subject I know. I think there should be a separate smoking area for those who choose to smoke, so that those of us that don't smoke won't be affected by the smokers decisions.

If they would ban this cigarette smoking in all bars, clubs, restaurants, etc. I bet more people would be inclined to go there.....Everyone likes to go listen to a good band now and again and maybe dance with their spouse but who wants to when you get home and cannot breathe or stand the smell of your clothes.... Just my opinion.....

Seems if the businesses do not need your patronage, let them ban smoking. By the way, apparently all those complaining bartenders and waitresses who 'live on tips' do not need your tips either! The government apparently does not need the taxes smoker's spend not only on tobacco but also the luxury taxes for being in the public establishments. And that goes ditto to the citizens who live off smokers tax dollars needing their handouts!!!!!! Stay home, smoke the tobacco products..save tons of money in comfort! Average tax per pack of cigs:$1.45 per pack(US not state average) Packs sold in 2008[according to the USDA]: 5.608 trillion cigarettes / 20 (# in pack)= 2.804 trillion packs sold in 2008 TAxes paid out to the governments = 4.0658 trillion $$$$$s I personally bet the numbers have not dropped drastically as children of 12 seem to easily have access to name brand cigarettes and smoke as much as their adult counterparts. Where did those tax dollars go for our bankrupt country ? Surely not to our health because our state hospital wont prescribe me an antiobiotic! Now for those who want to scream the non-smoker is fronting the bill for smoker's health costs.. 1. Your insurance is so high due to the cost (for medicine and doctor/hospital visits) set up BY YOUR INSURANCE COMPANY UNDERWRITERS! AGREED TO BY YOURSELF OR YOUR EMPLOYERS OR YOUR STATE [whomever you get your insurance through]-Dont forget the doctors who sign up to accept those insurances. You dont stand up and say no they will continue to plug you in the backside! Remember when everyone paid 1 price for like visits/medicines? Thank your HMO planners you will never see that again! 2. YOU pay for all those commercials and magazine ads and brochures that should be kept between the doctors and pharmaceutical companies. Why does the general public need to see that? WHAT LICENSE TELLS JOE BLOW HE NEEDS ALBUTEROL?? Hello?! That's why we go to the doctor isn't it? For their professional knowledge and judgment!!!! PS..does the doctor's staff need those free ink pens and pads at the general publics expense? Can those doctors not afford their own prescription pads without the advertisement? Where are government regulations??? 3. AND!!! YOU pay that high dollar insurance and medicine costs because of all those politicians who are supposed to be protecting you from this bull to have their own pockets filled!!!! That "yay" button is wore the "F" out on capital hill!!!! Puff on that!

Well, it seems we HAVE at lest beGUN saying NO in hopes that smokers will cease to plug us in the front-side. If you're saying we should stand up for ourselves, you should be GRATIFIED by all the smoking regulations that are happening.

If you exhale your smoke in my presence do not get offended if I spit or sneeze on you. That is one nasty ass habit that no one has ever died from for NOT doing. Save your life and those around you not to mention saving a butt load of money.

Why don't these bartenders become entrepeneurs? Are people BORN bar owners with the obligation to provide all bartenders jobs? That mildly retarted Blitzer fellow on CNN said the other night, "Businesses are bringing in record profits but are still not hiring, when we come back we will discuss whether the president can do something about this". This mentality that businesses owe the general population is a result of indoctrination over the decades from those who indeed want to profit off of the efforts of others without having to take the responsibility or associated risks. The people who started this campaign are now running the government and have permeated the court system. They are wrong just like all the thieves are now and throughout history.
