I started 50 mg of topiramate in October and so far so good. I was really concerned about hair loss. I think I've maybe lost a bit (not sure if it's just my imagination where it's a huge concern of mine) but I have thick hair so it's not an issue right now. I've lost about 20 lbs which started coming off right away. I think maybe I started noticing by week number 2. Sometimes it'lll pause but it's still coming off. It'll be interesting to see where it stops. I'm into size 10 jeans and size 12 top. That dosage had been working for migraines until this past week. They are creeping back. Is anyone on higher dosage than 50 mg for migraines? I'm going into panic mode that they are coming back. I thought I had them beat!!

Ok I'v been on TOPIRAMATE for two weeks as of today. The side effects are pretty strong, but getting use.I have been fighting a migraine for five days now and would like to know what I can atake for the pain. I take Topitamate 2 in the morning and 2 at night so that would be 100mg. I am having a hard time sleeping at night this first week I was so hungery and gained wieght and then I went where and could hardly eat and know it seems that I'm just hungery. What the hell is happening to me. People are talking about all this weight they are losing and here I am gaining. NO No this is not what I want and no I'm thinking about coming off the drug because the LAST thing I needed was something else to help me gain wieght. Please help!!! I thjought if I made it through the side effects thights would get better but I don't know if I can do this I can't gain more wieght. PLease help!!

I am certainly no expert but from what I understand, it needs to be started slowly. That will help with the side effects. I started last Thursday and I start with 25mg 1x a day for a week, then 2x a day for a week than 25 in the am and 50 in the pm for a week and then 50 am and 50 pm by the end of the month. I haven't had any side effects so far except for some minor nausea and the first day I did have a headache but haven't had that again. After searching thru a lot of forums, that seems to be the common theme, starting slow minimizes the side effects, that's also what my doc told me.

Donna, sounds like you jumped on to quickly, you should start slowly. work your way up to 100 mg, it helps with the side effects too.
As far as the migraine and pain, I took and take the same things I took when I was off the med.
And the weight loss didn't happen over night for me. It took a while.
Good luck to you..

Please wait...
I took topiramate for 8 months. It caused me to loose a ton of hair and I only lost 10 pounds. It curbed my appetite but nothing severe. I could still eat. I'm going to go on topamax. I just don't think the generic is effective. I also still had migraines.

So far I I'm now up to 100mg I stayed on 50mg for awhile but it does change ur appetite. It worked for me an I didn't even no it was gonna make me loose weight but I like it.

I've been on 100mg for migraines for a month now and I just realized that all I've eaten today is two cookies today. I only weighed 105 lbs then. I can't afford to lose any weight, but I never want to eat.

I have just started topiramate. It's been five days and I don't want to eat. I love food I never ate this less in entire life. I have had some side effect. My doctor started me on 50 mg. Hoping to lose weight !!!!!!

Hi Everyone, I just started taking Topiramate a week ago today. I'm due to up my daily 25 mg dose to 50 mg starting tonight. I had two days with no headache (which was a miracle for me) but have a bugger of one today. I'm hoping as I ramp up it will get better (supposed to end up at 75 by week 3 for starters). I'm more tired than normal and am just starting to get some of the tingles in my fingers and toes. Lost a few pounds. Appetite isn't wonderful, but I'm trying to eat at least 1200 calories a day so if the day comes that I discontinue this medicine or it doesn't work out for me as far as my migraines go I haven't wrecked my metabolism. What's this about hair loss? I was having quite a bit at the end of last year (wasn't on topiramate yet) but I just thought it was my body's response to the stress of being in pain all the time. I certainly don't need to add to that!

I never experienced the hair loss. The weight loss yes, but I don't know if it was the drug.. I did change my diet. My appetite changed, and I had to THINK about eating but again I changed my diet. I discovered that so much caused migraines that I adjusted what I ate that it helped. I did have the tingling in the hands and face but it stopped after a while.. don't miss a dose or it will start again.
I can tell you that I will never go off this drug, my migraines were so bad that I had one that lasted months. Nothing helped.
Drink alot of water...
GOOD LUCK, let us know how it goes and if you have anymore questions,

I have been Topamax for about 3 weeks now and the lack of appetite definetly does suck.I havent had the hair loss but by doctor suggested an instant breakfast drink and those I think have been helping due to the lack of vitimins

So I started on the generic Topomax 100 mg, it makes me extremely sleepy, ok it knocks me out, I am taking it for seizures, if I lose wieght well what a wonderful thing that would be. I have noticed some things that have changed, I cant stand the thought of fried foods I just get sick to my stomach at the very thought of it, also, soda tastes funny, is this normal? Has anyone else had this issue, with things tasting funny?
