The Food and Drug Administration said Wednesday it is reviewing data on the safety of Lantus, a synthetic insulin made by Sanofi-Aventis SA.

This is scary, especially since I've been using Lantus for over 5 years, as of lately twice a day!!! It's not bad enough to have diabetes in the first place which can kill you if it's not under control...Now it could be possible that the insulin usage of Lantus is also dangerous to your health...God help us!!!

Why do you take it 2x a day. Doctor told my husband he should only take it once and if your reading is over 200 then use sliding scale with R

It is appropriate to take lantus twice daily. That helps to flatten the action.
The cancer connection may relate to high insulin levels rather than the insulin type. Metformin reduces this risk 50%

Hi Rose, thanks for the reply!!! I also take Metformin 500mg 3X daily...My fasting fbs numbers are pretty low...I'm keeping my eyes and ears open for more info about Lantus and I have very carefully cut it back some without any serious reactions...I have an appointment with my doctor in a couple of days, so I'll see what he recommends...

The high price of lantus along with this risk worried me too much. What should I do?Idont like to shift to NPH again.I am type 1 diabetes getting use 30 units of ex late miraclous lantus and aspart before meals.
