I also have RSD, Ive had it since 2003. I have had the Ketamine infusions several times now. The first one and only the one put me in remission, until I had to have surgery on a Kidney stone. Then they gave me another set. this time it was a set of 4. I went back into remission. But needless to say I had to have female surgery, the RSD came back. Now today I have had 5 of the Ketamines. They worked on me yet again..I just hope that I dont have to have any other surprising surgeries. I go to Cleveland Clinic to have mine done. They are very good there, and watch you real close. I dont want to have anything else done besides that because it works so well for me. I just thought I would let people no that it does work, the Ketamine if not 100% at least some relief .

here is my email cat1902@live.com - i am a long term rsd (11 years well almost 12 now) i've done the spinal cord stim - that an incompetent dr. supplied by workers comp moved the leads over a vertebra and a half out of place needless to say that has made things almost impossible and thensome and the stim had to be disconnected - ive done countless blocks and the whole drug scene and gone up and down on them to hope that they will always at least help some - i've done the ketamine outpatient with a spinal block at the same time now 8 times - each time is different and i get a different result and reaction - dr. really wants to do the new spinal stim. but the last one was sooo hard on me i'm scared again - what i've read about the longer inpatient ketamine seems to be more effective any thoughts ?
thanks for your time -- also i currently live in nw indiana near chicago but have someone in maryland willing to take me anywhere near baltimore/dc anywhere if it gives me a chance at even part of a life.

My son who has full body CRPS as a result of a automobile accident in 2007 He was not diagnosed for 3 years. He has had 2 high dose Ketamine treatments with Dr Kirkpatrick in Tampa . Each times he was able to reduce his opiate drugs by 50 % . His Morphine went from 60 mg to 30 mg after first treatment 30 mg to 15 mg after second treatment and a lot lower pain level . We are going back to Florida in a few weeks for the third treatment . Ketamine only seems to work in high doses 200 Mg or higher for 4 or 5 day treatments . My son has been up as high as 250 Mg per hour with out any side effects . Most doctors will not go over 100 mg per hour . It is mainly because of the politics of hospitals that the Mg dosage does not go higher , liability etc. . We know some people who have been treated 4 or 5 times before they make it to full remission . He also has many lesions on arms and legs which have gotten much better after each treatment . When you have Lesions 5 days is normally required instead of 4 days - 4 hour treatments . We have found that The Florida treatment is the only success treatment available. We have researched the subject over several years . I find it interesting that the Military and some hospitals have adapted the low dose treatment recently .I think eventually the dosage will go higher as they find out that it can be done without problems . Dr Kirkpatrick is one of the most recognize expert in this field and the only one who provides this treatment .

It also is known that only synthetic Ketamine works . The natural version has poor results in high or low dose treatments . No one knows why this is the case . It is a fact that stimulator's don't work in most cases and the operation usually makes the CRPS worse and some times spreads it to other areas . It is not a good idea to have needles or any thing that penetrates the skin such as Iv 's , needles etc. . He now has a kemo port in his chest so he does not have to be poked with needles . Flying can and does set of the loss of remission . If you need a diagnostic Doctor one of the best in the Field is Dr Robert Knobler in Fort Washington PA . He normally does not treat and is mostly a research doctor . Just a observation we learned we do not allow any Doctor to Treat my Son until we read his resume . If he has not had any training in CRPS we do not allow him to touch our son.

I'm in the UK, had my 1st infusion yesterday.I think it was 50mg for 30 minutes, when I came round (3 hours later) felt awlful sick several times and very unsteady when I stood up. Question is it too early to expect any benefit? and whats the best drug to be infused with Ketamine to stop the sickness? Any views/help would be appreciated.

Dr Kirkpatrick gives a drug to keep you from getting sick . He also does not allow the patient to go to sleep . He actually has large screen T.V.'s that you can watch movies etc to keep you awake he also requires that a family member be in the room to keep you comfortable and a voice that you recognize while under high dose Ketamine . Hallucinations can be a serious problem on high dose 's . He tries to avoid these , if they occur he lowers the dose . My son has some relief just about immediately the lesions heal in 4 to 5 days completely . The proper way to treat with Ketamine according to Dr Kirkpatrick is to start with a low dose and increase it each hour over 4 or 5 days until you get to high dosage .

I am going to see DR. KIRKPATICK IN TAMPA today for a consulatation. I have had RSD for 22 YRS. I've done everything over the yrs. & I'm getting worse.I have not tried ketamine. The amount of money is quite high. Heather how did you get your ins. to pay? I don't mean to be too personal. How long did a 3 or 4 day 4 hrs. a day last? Besides the price between Tampa & GW IN DC is the treatment the same? Please get back to me if you can. I'm so happy your not suffering from the pain. THANKS FOR INFO! and Take care. I'll be looking for your answer.

The treatment at G.W. is ultra low dose and does not exceed 120 mg per hour and usually for 1 day or a few hours . It does work for some people who have CRPS in one limb etc. . It does not work for people who it has spread to other limbs , body etc. My son has full body and was pretty much limited to a wheel chair , but now walks with a walker. The price seems high put the quality of the treatment is worth the money , If you are in full body pain 2500 dollars a day is nothing compared to the pain you suffer . Each treatment is for 4 hours per day for 3 or 4 days . Workers Comp. in Maryland and some other states have ruled that the 2500 dollars per day is a reasonable cost for 4 hour infusions and are pretty much in line with what cancer treatment cost per dose per day . The big issue with payments is that there is no number in the insurance system for the ketamine infusion , these codes set the amount the insurances companies must pay for each treatment . That is changing as they are now issuing those numbers . 2 years ago there were only 3 doctors in the USA doing infusions now there are two Hospitals in DC alone , doing load dose and probably 25 more nation wide . I wish you luck with the CRPS foundation great people to work with

The treatment at GW can vary greatly. My daughter receives a higher dose than the 120. The infusions are for 4 hrs, three days in a row (Tues-Thurs). Insurance covers this for most people and I am hearing that WC does as well. There are several vets getting treatment there as well. Dr K uses much higher doses for four days and reports great results. Insurance has compensated many patients but you have to check in advance to make sure your company will.

I hope this link works... here is compiled list of doctors across the country who perform Ketamine Infusions (compiled from facebook members). While there certainly can be more doctors that aren't listed, this list should provide a good starting point for people looking for a doctor in a given area. Hope this helps for everyone! Keep Fighting the RSD!

This is my first time on the post; I have gotten so much encouragement reading how you all are continuing to move forward with your treatments and encouraging each other. I have had RSD/CRPS for 2 1/2 years that started in my left arm and now has spread to my entire left side. I also have also been diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia on my left side (which I can't help believe is related to the rsd). I live in Southern Michigan and have utilized all the treatments available - none of which have given relief. Right now I am just taking the many medications the dr.s have given me - which do very little on the bad days. I am very interested in the Ketamine Infusion but have no MD's that do this at U of M or ST. Joseph Mercy Hosp - which are the two largest hospitals in my area. Does anyone know of a Dr. in the Toledo, OH or Cleveland Clinic (which is 2-3 hours from me) that does the Ketamine Inf.? I am scheduled to try a Lidocane infusion on 9/15 at U of M, but thet Dr. there doesn't do the Ketamine. Has anyone tried the Lidocane infusion? I am getting very discouraged and somewhat depressed. It has been over six months since I have tried any type of treatment, and was turned down for the spinal cord stimulator. My team of drs. stated that my pain was too diffuse that the stimulator would only be able to give relief to one area so they didn't think it would give me enough relief. This was after they took me off all pain meds for six weeks - which put me almost off the edge! Does any of this sound familiar to anyone?? Please let me hear from you if you can answer any of my questions. Thank you and God bless you all!
