I'm all for a drug head screwing up his/her own life, that is his/her choice but when they are flying high on the roadway and my and my family's lives are in danger then it is my business. When they need to steal to get the next fix and my house/property is as good as any other, then it is my business. When their stupidity becomes my problem then it is my business but unfortunately the number of druggies is growing at such an alarming rate that the authorities can't keep up with it. Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, what should we do?

Not a good feeling at all.

in one month ( a few years ago) i lost 3 friends to overdosing. now, the official report that they gave was, heart failure. one mother of one of these guys just looked at me, worn weary and tired and said "i tried to raise all my children right. i took them to church, made them finish school, tried to teach them right from wrong. what happened? he was only in his 20's and had his whole life ahead of him. why did he do this? he didn't have to. he didn't have to do drugs. why?" i was stunned. she took my hand and made me promise i would never do this to my mother.(i've never touched a pill nor a drink in my life).she looked around and made another person promise the same thing. she wouldn't go up to the casket, she wouldn't look at him. it was the most saddest thing i ever witnessed in my life.

there's a drug problem here. everyone knows this, but no one is willing to come forward and tell on anyone. they don't want to be considered a 'rat' or a 'narc' for fear of repercussions upon them. i can somewhat understand due to the nature of how people are around this area. but if honest hard working people don't stand up for themselves and their families there will be no hope for the future of this land. a big factory was coming down to Hazard Ky and when they heard of the reputation of this area they backed out. How are we to live around here and have anything when everything is being destroyed by people looking for a good time for a little while? what's it going to take for someone to make a stand and say "i'm tired of this stuff being right down the road, in my back yard or in my house"....is it going to take someone in your family overdosing? is it going to take a family member killing someone else because they gave them too much, sold them bad meth, or them overdosing on oc's? be honest. we all have people in our families who are doing this stuff. but how many are willing to turn them in in order for them to get help. in order for them to say it's time to quit and live a normal decent life?(contrary to popular belief, snorting pills and coke, and smoking crack really isn't a normal thing to do...). i would love to see this place thrive, but as long as we have the drug problem we have around here, there's no hope....

Make them legal and there will be a drastic decrease in any crime associated with pills. How many crimes were committed in the name of alcohol during prohibition?? Oh Im sorry, the entire nation was run by organized crime back then since they had the booze, them and corruptd government officials. Thinking CAN be fun

Hmmmmmmmmmmmm, what should we do? Sorry that is your concern since DRUNK driving kills about 100,000 times the number of people who are on an opiate w/o drinking alcohol as well. Also, you should look into the government and find out why there are so many drugs to get people hooked on, then so many laws focring them to become criminials, if theuy were legal like booze and smokes, you wouldnt be worrying about being robbed. Although nobody in my family, nobody I know as a close friend or aquiantence, nor I have ever been robbed..have YOU actually been robbed or are you making a generalization. I hear this statement about "When you get robbed bu a junkie..."!! all the time on here but it sounds like a cliche and not that they have actually been robbed. If you happen to be one that has had something that unfortunate, I am sorry. But take a few weeks looking into how the drug system is set up in this country and why it works so well. SOMEBODY gets paid to bring the drugs in, SOMEBODY gets paid to fight a war on the drugs, SOMEBODY gets paid to seize the drugs, SOMEBODY gets paid to redistribute the drugs, SOMEBODY gets paid to imprison and fine over 70% of the nations prison population....wouldnt that SOMEBODY be rich if it were all one entity??? Happy Hunting...learn the TRUTH and it will set you free

I am not from your area but posted a few times with a gentleman who was quite fed up with what was going on there. I advised him to go to you local legislators. Create a petition, start making some noise because until you do, your town or County will continue to deteriorate. If enough people speak out on the behalf of your area, Councilmen, legislators and people who have the power to do something will continue to look the other way. Take a stand and MAKE SOME NOISE. Help yourselves because no one else is going to. You have to be the first one to start the change. Good luck to you and to those who live in your area, I will be thinking of you all.

Honest, Good Morning to you. I understand your frustration to a degree, as I have a dear friend in KY. Could all the parents come together have have a town hall meeting? If parents stick together, and have there own citizen watch type thing, can you make a citizens arrest in KY? My point though really is parents stick together, don't let these kids have the cars or trucks to go and get the drugs, make it damn hard on them to get there fix. Kids need options or yes they will certainly go with the flow, I don't totally understand your situation. I truly am sorry for your situation, hope you can come together as parents and at least give it a shot to make it as hard as possible for them to get there fix. Sincerely Jeanette

Thinking CAN be fun Back in prohibition, the crimes were committed by organized crime members on each other and selling it illegally, not people stealing to buy alcohol. Over 90% of the thefts in Letcher County are committed by people who is using the money or other items they steal to buy drugs. If you legalize it, they are still going to steal because they are too lazy to work. I do believe Marijuana needs to be legalized because potheads do not usually steal to support their habit and they usually do not cause problems for other people. Pillheads who use legal drugs illegally are a different matter. This is a lazy persons way of getting high. Drinking something is a natural body function. Snorting ground up pills or Cocaine up your nose isn't. Why don't we give all the thieves the death penalty and that will solve the problem

Why not make rehab/detox, Suboxone and Methadone more accessible to those who have a problem with prescription drugs? Steeper sentences and felony convictions will only clog up our courts and make a mockery of our justice system. If you make treatment options available to those with the problem, you will have more addicts taking advantage of them and getting clean. Nobody wants to be an addict, it just happens and it is truly an unfortunate way of life. Lets give these people more chances to straighten up not waste space in jail while causing tax increases. Do you have any idea how much it costs to house a prisoner? Take a humanitarian approach rather than the "Hangem All" approach.
