The glass house finally coming down Jerry? Medical conditions aside, the things you should'nt be doing as head of an EMS system may finally be catching up to you. Hope this is a wake up call, you know what the references are about.... start using your head & not risk embarrassing the public you claim to serve.

all the cop had to do was give him a glass of oj, cops are mandated by law to rule out diabetes, sounds like a law suite.

If He truly blew a Zero then the police made an error by not ruling out blood sugar. It's something that should be basic training for a cop when the symptoms are clear as not knowing where you are how you got there and blowing a zero on the breathalizer Come on Ansonia PD... You get enough bad press with only two cops writing all the parking tickets, cops accused of stealing a garden hose? Maybe the chief should spend more time training officers.

Well we will see what was in his system -- driving around in a town vehicle -- while out on comp for his "injured" knee --- why did he have the car in the first place if he was out on comp --- Oh and he has hypoclycemic episodes -- but is not a diabetic? I wouldn't want him working on me as a medic or drivin an emergency vehicle --- you never know when his sugar will be low.... Perhaps OEMS had better look at this too.... he shouldn't be practicing if he can't take care of himself.....

one would think that a person with his medical background he would keep his blood sugar under better control?? I wouldn't want him responding to my emergency! perhaps the town of Oxford should unload this liability...

When blood sugar drops it is like being drunk...BUT if he does suffer from diabetes or hypoglycemia and his field test was zero an ambulance should have been called!

I understand both sides. Like yes I wouldn't want him working on me in that condition or driving me etc. However, he is out on medical leave and i am sure if he was on a bus his co pilot would see something was wrong and get him help. However, I agree with him the officer did save him and possibly other people but as a rule for officers they should now to call an ambulance when someone doesn't know how they got there or where they are etc. If he went into a diabetic coma there would be one heck of a law suit. Lucky for his own sake he is hypoglycemic and not diabetic otherwise this could have been worse. Also it doesn't happen overnight he acknowledged he has a medical condition. I am hypoglycemic and trust me i know how he feels when he is not balanced.

it appears schwab is aware of his medical condition, so my quiestion is; why did he let his blood sugar get so low that he poses a danger to others? put another way, why did he get off his diet? he should be aware of the necissity of monitoring his glucose base.

in the New Haven Register, Mr. Schwab is quoted as saying he "blacked out while driving". In this article he states that he doesn't even remember getting in the car. Which is it? Where is his medical condition bracelet since this is obviously something he's had and known about? Great role model for a sixteen year old huh Mrs. Robinson??

I'm a diabetic. Have been for many years. It's not easy keeping your blood sugar levels exactly where they're supposed to be. There are so many factors... what you eat, when you eat, how active you are. I can believe his sugar dropped to a dangerous level while he was sleeping. It has happened to me. Fortunately I didn't decide to drive a car, but I recognized it and had a snack.

Nice spin-try Jerry. Sounds like the “I didn’t inhale” defense. I just bet you were hypoglycemic at the time you suffered your Workers' Comp injury too, or don't you remember. So far you have told two different versions of your story, as ‘wannabe” notes. The third and final version will be the one told after the toxicology tests have been returned. As "another citizen" hinted, your glass house is not just falling, it’s shattering. The Town of Oxford and the Oxford Ambulance Association's Board of Directors need to commission a full scale INDEPENDENT investigation into all your activities, after all, what else have you done while “blacked out”?

Let's stop playing politics on a blog and wait and see what happens... sure sounds like as long as he cleared Ansonia PD has some lawsuit exposure for not getting him medical attention

Unless he is an insulin dependent diabetic this defense will not work. Hypoglycemia with an altered mental status is a result of taking insulin and not having an adequate intake of sugar. Those who aren't insulin dependent will not become confused.

When the truth comes out that this was truly a medical condition, the people who are taking pleasure in trashing Mr. Schwab should personnally come back here and apologize. The police department should have provided him with medical attention when the two breath tests were negative. We are talking about a person here folks.. Please stop your politicial based attacks.
