AIDS activist charged with drug possession

Yes, Lance, I can honestly say that I DO speak from experience. I am embarrassed, ashamed, angry and sickened that Cassey choose to pray on AIDS organizations that fight so hard for public awareness and support. I think going forward all AIDS organizations should interview and conduct a background check for all their speakers. It seems newspapers and college / university newsletters were so quick to publish Cassey’s story they forgot one of the most important rules …. check your facts. Now, when I read the papers Cassey’s name, the phrase “AIDS Activist” and fraud are in the same sentence. I hope AIDS organizations all over the US can use Cassey’s abuse of the system to get MORE public support.
I also think her mug shot with a warning should go out to every college, university, church, civic organization, county services, services for the aging, hospital, State Police Department and Sheriff’s office. Trust me, Cassey got a taste of how to play the scam, she will be back after prison. I just hope and pray Cassey doesn’t meet up with the wrong crowd (like the 2 guys on parole that killed that nice CT family) and hurt someone. Cassey’s wouldn’t be the mastermind, but with a financial incentive she would go along for the ride.
Question: if Cassey claims to lesbian …. anyone know of anyone that actually dated her? I don’t recall Cassey bringing anyone home to meet the family. Well, I don’t recall meeting anyone that wasn’t straight (looking to meet Cassey’s family to verify if her outrageous stories were true).

No, I did not contact her family. I haven't seen her or any members of her family in many years. She hadn't told me anything about her father, as far as I can remember, in all the time I knew her. However, my mother was C.J.'s emergency contact and was contacted shortly after 9/11 by someone from a local hospital after C.J. went to the E.R. for whatever reason. This person told my mother that C.J. claimed to have been at the WTC on 9/11. I couldn't know for a fact, but I was fairly certain she hadn't been (we'd picked up on her lies by this time). I was quite upset to hear that she was trying to capitalize on such a horrible tragedy, knowing that there were, and still are, so many people truly affected by it. To answer your last question, she never stole anything from us except trust, although she did scam my mother out of money with some ridiculous promise of a deal on a home security system.

I, too, am disgusted by her behavior. I know a few people who are legitimately HIV-positive, and for her to claim to be suffering from such a horrible disease for nothing more than money and recognition... It's sickening. As for your last paragraph, when I lived with her in E. Stroudsburg, we went to the mall on a few occassions, and I witnessed her flirting with a lot of different women, some of whom gave her their phone numbers. I've wondered for many, many years: how many of them did she fool and victimize, like the rest of us?

I am a long time friend of hers and it is all sad how any of this happened. This case will not change that. My hope is she will find the help she needs and come out and live differently.
