How to quit smoking

Full story: Chicago Tribune

Unlike President Barack Obama , Eric Wolbert has been a non-smoker for 30 days. He quit his pack-a-day habit because he has watched cigarettes hurt too many people, including his grandparents, who died of lung cancer, he said.

I was surprised to read this story's addiction expert give President Obama a pass on arresting his chemical dependency, when he volunteered to serve as role model for our nation's youth. Yes, his job is demanding but what message is sent to millions of American smokers who also have highly demanding and stressful jobs?

Are you a smoker or an ex-smoker? For some people, it's just as addictive as cocaine or heroin. I've quit 3 times (most recently in the last week) and each time it gets harder and harder to quit. Honestly it is something that I enjoy.....but I know that my family and my health is more important than an addiction so once again I am trying to stop. I can't tell you the last time I have seen a picture of him with a cig in his hand.......it's not like he advertises it to the whole world.

I am quitting right now, but it is brutal. I have had some success with nicotine patches i get at Target, but today i bought SNUS by Camel. They are small pouchs of tobacco, that you put between your cheek and gums for up to 30 minutes and we shall see what they are about. At least there is no loose tobacco.......

The Chicago Tribune is the guiltiest newspaper I know for publishing anti-smoking stories. There must be at least two of these stories per day in the Trib. This is preaching, not news.

I quit 10 and a half years ago. Cold turkey, nothing else worked for me.

Another obama lemming here to defend their messiah.

Why is it you guys do everything you can to make smokers second-class citizens (high taxes on smokes, force them outside into the cold, 15 feet from any door or window, bombard them with anti-smoking ads) but you give obama is free pass? Quite the double-standard.

Why are you calling me an "obama lemming"? Did you even read my post?? I am a smoker.......well I was until last week. I never said give him a free pass. I was simply stating that it's not like he shoves it in anyone's face so why bash him because he's a smoker.

I stopped for the 3rd and last time 8 years ago, I did the nicotine patch and gum. I also took St. John's Wort daily to elevate my mood. It took 2 months to get over the cravings. and to this day I still have an occasional urge to light up. Load up on sugerfree mint gum and start an excercise regimen.

I had NO success with trying to quit smoking for years. I smoked up to 3 packs/day for 25 years. After I heard about chantix I talked to my doctor and got a prescription for it. I only took it for 1 month but am now going on my 6th month with NO smoking at all. Have not even been interested in smoking even 1 more cigarette. If I can give cigarettes up then anyone can but if someone does not want to quit it will not happen.

Daily Horoscope for December 11

Pisces

The last thing you want to do is to picking over every little thing. Instead, you have one eye permanently on the clock and you're trying to cram as many activities into the day as possible. This will be good fun and you'll enjoy keeping up the momentum, but beware of a possible tendency to become reckless or to try to cut corners in order to save time, because this will be self-defeating in the long run.
