I'd also like to address your contention about the bonus the CEO of GM got for walking away. What, do you propose, should have happened? Should Obama have taken away his severance? Why, my friend, that would smack of socialism. Are you advocating that? Shoudl the government cap people's salaries? That's dangerously close to Communism, and we don't get down like that.

The notion that they should "have taken care of themselves" is absurd. Sure, people could, and probably should, have left New Orleans before Katrina. But people are stubborn and for every person that heeds the warning there's going to be the "get off my lawn, you Fed!" type next door. Do you want to be told you need to evacuate? Forced to evacuate? If you live in Ruidoso your argument is essentially: I'll stop the fire myself, thank you! Go ahead and try that one.

In your mind, what is the President's job? It sounds as if you equate him more to a benevolent king or dictator than an elected representative. Good nature? Goodwill? Seriously? People in New Orleans pay Federal taxes. They are entitled to the government's aid when a disaster strikes. Part of the President's job, as Chief Executive, is to organize the response mechanism.
